What are criteria for layoffs?

To the 93' Zeneca douche, you are clueless. First, you launched R-AQ? Was in Astra USA's pocket before the merger.

Second, take a look at the AZ DBP handbook. Why is there a separate section on AMI pension benefits? There were three organizations prior to the merger. Astra USA, AMI & Zeneca. AMI was purchased by USA just months prior to the USA/ Zeneca merger to keep it clean and keep Merck out of the picture. Those that were with AMI were able to keep their DBP. One of the reasons they are an endangered species now. BUT THEY ARE CONSIDERED AMI LEGACY EMPLOYEES, SO LET IT GO. You are looking foolish.

Oh and Nexium was being developed by AMI as the next step in the Prilosec franchise. Remember it was launched in 2001, less than a year after the merger.

Correct, and on the Astra side it was Astra, and Astra USA, then AstraMerck, then Astra Pharmaceuticals, then AstraZeneca was created.

Close but not quite. AMI and Astra USA operated as two separate companies simultaneously. In fact, AMI was more closely aligned to Merck then with Astra. As discussions were heating up between Astra and Zeneca, the need to buy out Merck became necessary for the merger to complete.

was Stuart first then ici pharma , Zeneca then AstraZeneca.

Almost. ICI was the parent Chemical company with Stuart the pharmaceutical arm. After a corporate raider almost took control of everything in early 90's, ICi was forced to spin off Stuart which eventually renamed to Zeneca. Then Astra and Zeneca merged. ICI is completely gone now after being a corporate entity for over 100 years.

You are 100% correct. I worked for Marion Merrell Dow and we co-promoted Prilosec with them. It was fun working with them. Atacand came from a lawsuit from the makers of Prevacid, which AZ sued for patent rights and we took this drug out of their pipeline...they still made it but AZ marketed it.

How anyone thought that we could merge such diverse cultures as Astra and the AMI people is beyond me.
One was run like a Nazi Gestapo and the other was like a hippy commune with an endless supply of drugs and alcohol. And we brought people into high leadership from both of these companies and expected them to change their spots. It was a miserable failure with a lot of dead bodies left in their wake.

ICI (imperial chemical industries)held atlas pharmaceutical which became Stuart pharmaceuticals. Stuart was renamed ici pharmaceuticals around 1984 and then they changed the name to Zeneca around 1986. When the merger came in the mid 90's it became AstraZeneca.

In the end the Gestapo leadership style of Astra won out and those from AMI and Zeneca were pushed out.
The only people from legacy AMI and Zeneca who survived were those that adapted and embraced the bullying culture.

Once the Canning and Tilton duo took control, that was the end of any chance of a motivating and rewarding culture. Tilton was the worst possible person to ever lead the sales force. He was a creature of HQ who had a very low regard of field sales and field sales leaders.

It is a popularity contest, just like the nomination for the Democrat candidate for POTUS was. That and $1.99 can buy you a large coffee at 7-11. The idiot egoists running the company should turn things over to a group of five motivated college students; they would do a far far better job.

Like "The Apprentice."

Fools ! The layoff criteria are crystal clear:

1) Must be announced immediately prior to major holiday (First Choice for a general kill - Christmas; First Choice for killing American jobs - 4th of July)

2)American, independent, opinionated, motivated, talented, ambitious employees should be prioritized for downsizing

3)Are you English ? Are you a expert ass kisser ? Did you work at Roche ? Are you from MedImmune prior to the acquisition ? If so you are protected from downsizing.

4)If additional bodies are needed, execute people in Delaware
