New Diabetes Sales Specialist positions?

Pharma is the same no matter if you're contract or regular sales force. Pay is great for 20-30 mins of actual work a day. Unless you have a lunch then add 45 mins to an hour extra per day. Show up, leave samples and repeat. Both sit in waiting rooms and both waste time talking to co-workers, friends in between stops. Both are in the same industry with the same challenges, make it to the next pay check.

You are the perfect contract rep.

Actually in my many years of non-contract pharma job I knew few reps that did not bitch and moan endlessly. Despite being lazy overpaid nanies. I still talk to friends who are not contract at other companies and they are afraid of getting laid off and they complain about the companies scamming them on bonus so the truth is that these jobs are all pretty much the same. Its your manager, your product and how much you get paid that makes a difference. Contract is not ideal: typically lower pay and benefits than being a direct hire but its better pay than unemployment...with the multitude of pharma lay-offs I wouldnt be too cocky

****************** AMEN ******************* !!!!!!!!!!!!

me too, 42 years of age, former collegiate all american football player, 5 years in the NFL a stint in the WWE, have been in the pharma sector for 7 years some direct hire, some contract. Have been out of work since 9/1/2010-I apply to every posting out in my area and across the states and I can't even get an acknowledgement from the companies that I applied to for anything. I believe I have had 4 interviews (I think the individuals wanted to just meet me, because they had me sign pictures of myself that they had with them), but things are tough out there right now, take anything you can get if you are unemployed. People are on here talking about contract sales are for losers, I don't see a problem with making a living so your family can eat, if you believe this industry is a career path you are highly mistaken-get out as fast as you can. And if you are wondering, why am I on here complaining, I must have made alot of money during my younger years playing professional football and wrestling. Can you say cheating, stealing wife took me to the cleaners in my divorce.

I have been with inVentiv for a number of years on a number of contracts. I have been been with Big Pharma. Starting pay in the $70's for this project/contract is very good; certainly one of the higher paying salaries. If the projected bonus is $25K+, then this compensation package is VERY, VERY good. Two years is about the norm for contract duration, on paper. Remember, the client holds the purse strings and can end the contract at anytime. As in life, what you put in is what you get out of it. Many people have and continue to work gainfully on both sides of pharma. sales, big & CSO. How you present yourself, your accomplishments, your overall level of experience go a long way. Yes, the industry has radically changed, people are not treated the way they once were, it is what it is.

sounds bad but being a former manager with ventiv, they will have a criteria for every contract, it could be they want a female or male in a certain territory, really does not matter what experience you have, i have had to pass over many qualified candidates because corporate wanted a certain person for the position

Uhh, isn't it illegal to discriminate on sex?

true true true

Quit your f....king crying about finding a rewarding career and respect. I am a CSO rep and could care less what others think. I make a good salary, good benefits, and I get my respect from my kids and my friends and those I help along the way. A ton of people go to work every day hating what they do and have to put up with for a hell of lot less money and freedom.

Merry Christmas!!

Great post! I completely agree.

Whoever thinks working for a direct report is sooooooo superior to a CSO position is an imbecile. Do you think the HCP's really care? Is the pot calling the kettle black?

As Jerry Jeff Walker sang: "the pot can't call the kettle black cause the train's all runnin' on the same ole track"

Umm and your are trolling and posting on a CSO board. Nothing better to do, unemployed mfg rep who was turned down by InVentiv? Get a clue and get a life, loser.

Your anger is understandable. It is hard to accept the world has passed you by and you made nothing of yourself. It hurts to admit the bottom for most is the best for you. Cheers.

These positions are a last option. If you cant get anything else out there then consider being a temp. These jobs are the bottom of the barrel. Sad to say, that is where many of us find our selves.

it is sad and horrible. but it is the only job i have been able to find. i was just let go early from a contract that should have lasted 18 months. like most of these it did not. now i am out looking again, and again, and again. that is the problem. these jobs suck.
