Dont Take Contract. You will Lost Respect of Everyone.

Being unemployed on your resume for over 6 months will eliminate your chances of getting called. I took a contract and am Ok with it. Big Pharma is laying off evertwhere. CSO is the wave of the future. I was w a big Pharma Co for 15 yrs and we all got let go due to being bought by another Comp. Many friends in Pharma cant even get a CSo comp to call them. I am happy I have a job and a paycheck. The arrogance of some of these posters are amazing. I know people with Masters degrees that are waiters because they cant find work. Make the best of what you have.

You are typical CSO mentality. We are all happy you are ok with a mediocre low paying part time temp position. They are the "wave of the future" for individuals with no other options and obviously no ambition and no connections. I bet you are a 50 year old happy with your low pay! There are good careers out there paying really well still. It is more competitive then ever but they are being filled with the best candidates. You will never even be considered. Stay in contract, you are exactly what they are looking for!

Why are you on this contract board if you are so against contract? You are probally a short little guy who needs his ego fed. Go get a job with Charlie Sheen as on of his assistants. You will be a real "Winner" in this competitive market.....LOSER

Maybe a contract rep, maybe moved on, maybe considering a position. Bottom line, whether you are on a contract or considering it, it will be the worst decision you could ever make.

I accepted a contract position because I could get absolutely NOTHING else! Nothing. My guess is that is why most of us are doing this type of work. Yes it is degrading, yes I hate getting up every day. What I hate most is that I am making 50% of what I used to make. I had no choice no one else would hire me and I know that is the case for the other CSOs or we wouldn't be here. PERIOD.

What a bunch of whiny losers. Who would actually admit they could not get anyting else? You all deserve to be called temporary workers.

After taking a contract, you will find that no real companies want any part of hiring a temp pharma rep. If you are on one, good luck. You will need it if you ever GET the chance to interview with the big dogs.

Pfizer has gone about 70% contract and they will be heading toward move lay offs and more contracts. Heard Merck is going contract or already has some. Abbott went contract, they recently rolled some over and BMS and BI are only filling in vacancies with contract. Sounds like you either go contract or get out. My thought was I dont need as much to live on and we have a 2 income household. Have been smart with money so I took this contract. It is a mind set. Sure I would love to be back with a regular company but I am making the best of what I have and it certainly beats unemployment. I dont know how someone can survivie on unemployment. Best of luck to all of you looking for a job with a Big Pharma company.

You are correct that all 3 big-Pharma. companies have hired contract sales forces. You are completely wrong to think there are no jobs or opportunities with these companies. You were unable to get one that's all. There are thousands of people with great careers making huge money with these companies. Why people like you have the need to justify your contract is crazy. You probably got fired from one or all of these companies and could not get anything else as others have posted. You my friend are a loser.

Another gray with the contract mindset. Perfectly fit!

True! This is what happened to me. I got canned from Pfizer and was unemployed a long time. I am now on contract and beginning to believe this is where I will stay forever or at least until it ends. I am so glad I spent 140K on my college education!

I was with PFE and got downsized because I think I was making too much and lived out of the territory..who knows??? I took a contract with Abbott and was rolled over in January. I am happy. When I was on the contract, I was very surprised to see how many DM's and reps all were from big Pharma. I dont let my job define who I am. I am secure as a person. I assume alot of the posters bashing CSO are short little guys that have no sense of themselves and need a job, a sportscar or whatever to define them. What a sad way to go through life. In the end none of this matters. How sad you are and what a empty person you must be. Good luck to you.

You are a sad empty soul..probally a short guy that lets a job define you as a person..You are very sad.......You probally would sell your Mom for a buck. What a loser you are.

I dont think all the posters are short little guys to start with. You post over and over. Bottom line why would anyone want a job making so little when there are career opportunities available for the talented and those that qualify? Sorry you don't fit either criteria. Hope you like contract that is all you will ever be able to qualify for.

Maybe because they ar a t a time in their life when the mortgage is paid off and money isnt everything. Just want to help pay for kids college education. At a point where I dont want to start a new career..had been in Pharma for 16 yrs and started contract a year ago. I am fine with it. I am not a loser. Just want to work a few more years. Everybody has a different situation and are all at a different place in life. So it isnt right to be calling someone that accepts a contract a "loser". I think loser attitude is someone who wont work and wants to live of unemployment or the government. I am fine with my job and fine with my life. Its great to know that I dont have to stress about a mortgage pymt and have another property as a rental. I am fine.Thank you.

I am on a contract after displaced from pharma. I will leave contract but not for big pharma (pharma is rapidly changing with less opportunities each passing day). I will continue to look at devices, medical supplies and laboratories in the medical field and also I am looking outside of medical. I am not going to put this contract on my resume, I would rather put down consulting, 1099 etc!
After unemployment, contract is better than nothing. To stay content in contract indicates a lack of competitive spirit and financial reward orientation or that you are ready for retirement!
If you are happy in contract stay! I think most people want something more out of life and big pharma is no longer a viable option.

This was the worst decision I have ever made! I am here to tell anyone who would ever consider these parttime jobs to pass they really do destroy your chances of ever getting hired by a reputable company. I am living proof. I was one of the ones saying its not true, its better than nothing, it beats unemployment UNTIL I went face to face a few weeks with management with a major Pharm company and they said they have other candidated that are more closely matched, when I asked how because I had EXACTLY what they needed they said it is a challenge to justify offering my a base salary of 43-45K more than I am being paid because I am obviously content making so much less. They questioned my work ethic, goals, and career aspirations. I screwed myself by taking contract and if you are on the fence at least know the reality going in. Good luck

To the above post, you are so right. I have encountered this problem also. The reputable companies look at contract reps horribly. They do not respect us at all. One recruiter even told me that the hiring manager called contract reps "temp reps" and that being on a resume shows the hiring managers that we as contract reps could not get a real job. She also said that showing that I had not been working would have looked better than showing Inventiv on my resume. Sad to say, but so true. Now I have no chance. I wish I had NEVER taken a contract. It hurts you so bad in the end. I was also one of those who did not believe it would hurt my chance at other companies. I was wrong!! Good luck to all of you that are in the same boat I am in.
