Dont Take Contract. You will Lost Respect of Everyone.

Thanks for the info. I think we all know this is the truth it is hard to accept. I cannot get out of this contract rut. No one will even call me back. I stand out like a hore in the front row of church. "Thanks for coming but no one really wants you"

The reason is because you are viewed as a signature collector, that is it. There's no selling involved. Even if YOU don't fall under this category, the interviewer automatically assumes this.

I hate telling people I am a CSO. I just say i am in Pharma. Inevitably the next question looking down on me is are you contract or a temp? When I say yes, I always get this look like I am a POS. I hate that are jobs carry so little weight and no respect. I would get more respect as the walmart cart greeter I think, Hi, welcome to walmart, trip, spit, fart one arm r*****s , would you like a cart? This sucks

We are always looked down on

These comments bashing CSO jobs. I know first hand if you are unemployed for over 6 months no one will hire you, CSO included. I was downsized from big Pharma, took CSO and love it. Things are changing out there. Get out of the industry or make adjustments with your attitude.

Most people on CP bash CSO making claim that they are underpaid and it will ruin their chance for big pharma. Here is a news flash, where are you going to get a job outside of CSO? There are a few opportunities but there are a ton of reps applying so getting a an offer is like winning the lottery. There are those that took a CSO and all they do is complain about the pay etc. You took the job you knew what you were getting into, man up and deal with it and stop crying like a baby. You didn't have to take the job and if you are so good why did you not get a job with big pharma? I crack up at those they say they are looked down upon from big pharma reps. Are you really that insecure that you care what others think? I was in big pharma and now with InVentiv. Is it my ideal job, no but I am happy to be employed. I know many people who have been out for over a year would be more than happy to have a CSO job. The pay is not the same but who cares. Don't live beyond your means. The bottom line is that pharma is over and it would not suprise me if CSO's are gone in 5 years as well. Go back to school, change industries or whatever. It's up to you to make a change stop acting like a silver spoon child and do something about it.

Some of us are not willing to settle on a position that will ruin our reputation and career opportunities. I think it's great you were willing to do it, but some people will not and are qualified for the best opportunities. You obviously were not. You have your opinion and are ok making close to nothing while others desire to have a true career making a good living. What ever works for each person.

CSO jobs blow. I interviewed last week for a "great" opportunity. What a bunch of horse shit. Manager had a bad comb-ever, scraped shoes, suit pants that were an inch too short. Poor fool has no money to buy a suit to lure the poor suckers into a temp rep job. I smelled the shit a mile away. No way, not for me. He said, "why are you willing to take such a big step back financially; most people want to move forward financially". Great question! Im not willing to! Let some other sucker take the shit job.

I am new to this business and just offered a position in Alabama on a contract. The manager is pretty unimpressive and I rode with a rep. a while back. Again very unimpressive. From what I have read these jobs carry no respect or credibility at all. I have a option fortunately working in a family business. I wanted to get some experience out on my own. The pay is pretty sad also. I think I will go with my gut instinct and avoid this. Any one have advice for me?

Yeah here's some advice you indecisve dimwit; go into your family business of gay porn fluffing. Your Pappy is tired of ticking balls all day long and is ready to retire.

That sizes it up for sure! CSO jobs are not known for their high salaries, career advancement or recognition by others. Its just a low level job just about anyone can get. Take it or leave it idiots.

Wrong, it's not setteling it's call doing something rather than sitting home wasting time and spending my savings. Yes the pay is less but it beats unemploment and with my severence It makes up for the difference plus some. In the meantime I continue to look both inside and outside the industry. Unfortunately what we once knew of pharma will never come back. Better to be proactive as opposed to negative and sitting still.

Well said! This is the lowest level work possible. I feel like such a loser telling people i am a fucking cso. These jobs suck at best.

I should have listened. I took a job with inVentiv and regret it more than words can say! I am embarrassed, broke, laughed at, and most importantly ruined as far as any other opportunity goes. Take my advise and take ANYTHING but a contract job.

On an interview with big Pharma, the interviewer said to me ( with regards to my ranking)

Wait for it....

How do I know that you did this? Not your counterpart that works directly for company. UGH

I would have simply said, What makes you think I didn't do it? Challenge them and turn it around that is what they want to see.

Maybe this is the best you will ever get? If you were better you would have a better job.
People get out of this life what they put into it. If you get little you put little forth. Thus a contract job.

This is so so so so true. If you put little into your education, career you will reap the same. I see this everyday. CSOs are CSOs because they put forth little. They all get little now back and are whining. babies

This is not a hard question; I would have knocked it out of the park. The fact is ANY territory, even for a MFG, that has muliple reps coverinbg it, such as pods, etc, will have the same problem. I have done interviewing of people that worked in PODs, or multi-rep covered territories, and their numbers were always suspect to me. This is not a problem relegated only to CSO
