Dont Take Contract. You will Lost Respect of Everyone.

To the above post, you are so right. I have encountered this problem also. The reputable companies look at contract reps horribly. They do not respect us at all. One recruiter even told me that the hiring manager called contract reps "temp reps" and that being on a resume shows the hiring managers that we as contract reps could not get a real job. She also said that showing that I had not been working would have looked better than showing Inventiv on my resume. Sad to say, but so true. Now I have no chance. I wish I had NEVER taken a contract. It hurts you so bad in the end. I was also one of those who did not believe it would hurt my chance at other companies. I was wrong!! Good luck to all of you that are in the same boat I am in.

I agree. I took a contract 2 months ago, after being unemployed a year. I got 2 calls last week for great jobs with 2 different major pharma companies. During the phone screen I talked to him about the contract I was on, and that was it! He said at this time the direct company is not interested in hiring contract reps for these open positions. I'm screwed.

This caught my attention. As a current CSO I dont necessarily agree I have lost everyone's respect. What I know I have lost is the ability to get a job outside of contract. Those of us working these jobs have no opportunity beyond contract. I know first hand. For what its worth.

I interviewed Monday with Novo. It was with the hiring manager for my area and a trainer. We were only into it about 3 minutes and the manager said I am willing to talk with you further, but as far as a job goes I am not willing to hire anyone coming from contract. Contract reps are not what we are looking for to fill these competitive positions. I said why did you bring me in? I was told to hear why anyone would accept a contract job. People, it is true I had it happen first hand.

Another downside (if we really need one) is that many companies that inVentiv work with or plan to work with have agreements in place to avoid hiring inVentiv employee ; reason you see little real chance of 'rollover'

There is zero rollover. Know that by accepting contract you have given up any funure opportunities.

Really..who cares! I just want to feed my family. If you think the reps. working for big pharma will have their jobs in a few years...well dream on. I for one was just down sized- Thank you God!! Bring on the contract work.

Good to see that someone actually GETS it. All these posts talking about how people have missed out on "opportunity," or have somehow tarnished their big pharma "career" by taking a contract job are mind-boggling in their short-sighted stupidity. Like ANY position on the front end of sales/marketing in ANY company in pharma is going to be around much longer.

Keep telling yourself your contract job is good. Keep doing it. I know my contract job sucks and has destroyed my career chances. You will wake up one day douche.

I hate telling people I am a CSO. I just say i am in Pharma. Inevitably the next question looking down on me is are you contract or a temp? When I say yes, I always get this look like I am a POS. I hate that are jobs carry so little weight and no respect. I would get more respect as the walmart cart greeter I think, Hi, welcome to walmart, trip, spit, fart one arm r*****s , would you like a cart? This sucks

I hate telling people I'm in pharma period! They know most of us are douche bags or bimbos. the arrogance & inflated egos of big pharma reps are beyond ridiculous though. So when I say I'm with Inventiv only the big pharma reps look down at me. I usually say I'm in healthcare lol

Thanks for the info. I think we all know this is the truth it is hard to accept. I cannot get out of this contract rut. No one will even call me back. I stand out like a hore in the front row of church. "Thanks for coming but no one really wants you"
