Dont Take Contract. You will Lost Respect of Everyone.

This is so so so so true. If you put little into your education, career you will reap the same. I see this everyday. CSOs are CSOs because they put forth little. They all get little now back and are whining. babies

This is life ! I agree 100% with this post. A cso is a cso because that is what they are qualified and able to get. Other people with better qualifications, record, numbers, connections, education, experience, higher intelligence, more professional, get the good jobs. This is in every industry.

It is fair to say people get what they deserve.

I interviewed Monday with Novo. It was with the hiring manager for my area and a trainer. We were only into it about 3 minutes and the manager said I am willing to talk with you further, but as far as a job goes I am not willing to hire anyone coming from contract. Contract reps are not what we are looking for to fill these competitive positions. I said why did you bring me in? I was told to hear why anyone would accept a contract job. People, it is true I had it happen first hand.

THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING THREAD. SO ARE THE MAJORITY OF YOU PROCLAMING THAT HAVING A "GAP" ON YOUR RESUME FROM NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN IE...DOWSIZING OR LAY OFF-- THAT THIS IS SOME HOW BETTER IN THE SUITERS EYES THEN HAVING CSO ON YOUR RESUME???????? VERY INTERESTING TO HEAR THIS. AS A LONG TIME VET OF BIG PHARMA I AM INTERESTED TO READ SUCH A THING. I HAVE SAT IN ON MANY INTER. OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE BEEN A RST AND IN HOUSE TRAINER. I AGREE WITH MOST OF THIS ON HERE HOWEVER THERE IS A NEW PUSH IN THIS BIZ AND THE BETTER, SMARTER MORE NIBLE BIG PHARMA HOUSES ARE LEANING TOWARDS E DETAILING, SMALL CSO SALES FORCES AND DROPPING THE HIGH SALARIED REPS WITH TENURE. MUCH CHEAPER FOR A BMS, NOV, PFI, AZ, JNJ ETC TO HIRE YOUNG DUMB NAIVE SIG MONKEYS AND TRUNK RATS TO SHARE OF VOICE THE DRUGS UNDER A 1 OR 2 YR CONTRACT THAN TO HAVE A BLOATED SPECIALTY OR PC SALESFORCE OF 1K REPS WITH 80% OF THEM WORKING 10-2 2 DAYS A WEEK.......

CSO IS A PRETTY GOOD GIG AS IT PROVIDES MORE STABILITY THAN A DIRECT EMPLOYEE IN RECENT YEARS AND THIS TREND WILL CONTINUE. THE DAYS OF 95K BASE SALARIES, FREE GAS AND CAR AND CELL ARE GONZO!!!! CSO IS THE FUTURE AND EVENTUALLY CSO WILL BE EXTINCT AS WELL.....THE MD'S HAVE SPOKEN AND RESEARCH SHOWS THAT 7/10 DOCTORS NO LONGER SEE REPS, AND THAT FED X SAMPLES AND ONLINE EDUCATION AND DETAILS ARE PREFERRED OVER ANNOYING OFFICE VISITS.....IN COMBO WITH THE NEW SUNSHINE ACT AND THE NEW REPORTING LOOPS AND RESTRICTIONS, IN REALITY CSO JOBS ARE MORE COVETED THAN ONE MAY THINK.

I PERSONALLY DO KNOW OF MANY COMPANIES AND DM'S WHO SEE VENTIV, PDI, ETC ON RESUMES AND TOSS THEM STRAIGHT INTO THE TRASH, HOWEVER THESE SAME DM'S ARE ALSO FIRED OR LAID OFF WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF THROWING OUT CSO'S RESUMES....SO IT IS A CYCLE OF SHIT, NO CSO'S CAN GET HIRED DUE TO THE PERCEPTION AND NO DIRECT EMPLOYE'S CAN BUILD ANY TENURE BECAUSE YOU EITHER PRODUCE AND GET TO STAY FOR ONE MORE QUARTER OR YOU ARE LAID OFF AND THEN THE CO. REHIRES AFTER THEY FIRE AND LAYOFF.....THIS IS HOW IT GOES.

I THINK THAT IN THIS REALITY HAVING A GAP OR WORK STOPPAGE ON A RESUME IS PROB. BETTER THAN A STINT WITH A CSO IF YOU WORKED FOR RESPECTABLE BIG PHARMA BEFORE THE CSO THEN THIS WORKS AGAINST YOU. IF CSO IS YOUR ENTRY POINT INTO THIS BIZ, THEN IT IS MUCH MORE CREDIBLE AND LESS JUDGED. A STEPPING STONE WITH A CSO IS ACTUALLY A GOOD THING IN MOST DM'S EYES AS YOU WERE TRAINED ON HOW TO SIGNATURE CHASE AND SAMPLE DROP AS A PRIORITY AND THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT FOR METRIC REPORTS TO KEEP THEIR JOBS AS DM TO SHOW THEIR RBD AND NSD THAT THEIR REPS ARE OUT IN THE FIELD WORKING...... I WOULD RATHER HAVE A LONG GAP ON RESUME IF YOU TRULY WERE LAID OFF INVOLUNTARILY THEN HAVE A CSO ON IT FOR YOUR CURRENT JOB.....JUST MY OPINION......INTERESTING FORUM AND VERY TRUTHFUL FOR A CHANGE FOR CP.....

Hey you pompous, self obsessed windbag; why the fuck are you typing in all caps? Fucking dick smoocher.

Just accepting a cso job is the lowest thing i ever had to do. it has been 10x more degrading than I ever expected. douche bag job.

So you didn't accept the right contract. Here's a way to redeem yourself in the eyes of all pharma: Use your awesomeness to get a Depomed job. No pods, no teams, no big pharma brother carrying the heavy load. It's just you, you alone, launching a small company with a unique orphan drug for a specific small indication. You have control over targeting, contracting, everything because it's just you. C'mon bad boy, take the Depomed shot and prove to all of us how incredibly brilliant you are, it's not contract, it's start up biotech and you could be running the whole operation in a year's time!

Amen, brother. I wish I could jump from my BI contract to Depomed. The people they can get for those slots should be good, if they are selective enough.

No big pharma partners...nice!

what a stupid comment!!! You are a dumb-ass. I left big pharma for a contract because I got more money and I am selling Pradaxa and my bonuses are in nice five digits every quarter. Who cares who you work for??????? Its how you work and what kind of money you bring home. But you wouldn't know because it sounds like you are one of those a..holes that work 11-2 every over Tuesday. Looser

Contract is for those that cannot get hired anywhere else. Just look at these people we see out there! You can see them coming! Look worse than my left overs from Thanksgiving. I could understand if it is just to make a little cash on the side, but to try to call it a career WTF? I was out with some buddies last week, both are managers in Pharma. and they totally ripped the cso's. They would never ever hire any of these people. But if you need to defend it and want to pretend it is a good job, then do it. Everyone knows the truth. I will keep my $130k Pharma job w AZ and you keep yours. I know 3 people on contract they all hate it and are very embarrassed. They cannot get anything else and can barely pay the bills.

WAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA you make more on contract? I make more at McDonalds then working my Law Practice. Really try it. Everyone should work at McDonalds you will make "more".

I have worked a hospital contract for this company since Feb of 2009, and I make 90k in base. Bonuses can be quite large, as well. What the hell are you complaining about?

Ummmm, I make more money on my contract doing the same job people who work for the actual company do. This thread is confusing to me. I'll take a contract any day. More money, less stress.

With 50k plus pharma reps let go in 2010 and big pharma cutting back and not hiring reps will take a CSO opportunity if offered. I would agree that some CSO reps are not cut out for big pharma but not all. BTW there is no rep with AZ making 130k.

Agreed, I work for AZ and absolutely NO ONE is making 130k

Loser. We make so much less money. Yes. less stress. But , much less money. No respect, all career options are ruined. Im glad you like your low life low level job I think it sucks. I want out and need a good job.

And with the beaming positivity you project you should have a new, high paying postion in no time at all! (Maybe it's you and not a CSO on your resume that's holding you back)

Seriously, it sucks--my BI mgr passed me over for the open BI position in the same territory I've been covering for a year. Now a newly hired BI rep is coming in--am I supposed to show her around? This is f'd up!
