Zoll Lifecor

I've never posted to a board, ever, but having been at this company for almost a year - I can't say this loud enough - STAY AWAY! I've had multiple MDT, BSC and other device individuals ask me about coming over. The answer is NO, a crappy day there is heaven here.

Just about everything people say is correct - the goals of this company are completely mis-aligned with it's customers. If you have solid relationships with EP's/IC's - yes you can leverage them to get some business - but this company will do everything they can to take these contacts out of your hands - You will be put on the ever increasing treadmill to crap pay, then turned out for some pharma rep who thinks this is their path to med device.

And I'm saying this still working here. Remember incentives folks - Recruiters get a cut of your first year pay (just fill the role), RM's have to work the open territories (just fill the role), Corporate sets plan (no sales input), so you're happy you're here, but you're now on the ridiculous treadmill to hell.

By the way - there is very little data on this product - yes ancillary trials show a risk of SCD in the most MI setting, but cost/benefit and risk stratification - I can spin this perfectly, but I don't sleep very well anymore. If you join, you've been warned...

Well said. This is probably the mot accurate post I have seen on this company. Please do not even consider this company because it is a disaster. The compensation plan is a hamster wheel to hell just as described. In most territories it is not sustainable for more than a year. So if you are the second or third or tenth TM in there it can't be done. A good manager can help a little, but there a very few of them and most are not interested in helping you. My manager lied about me and others on my team, she would mislead her manager to cover up her own incompetence and has gone through 8 reps in 3 years and is still there. Do not listen to the recruiters. I was told the same bs. This job wil NOT lead to a career in devices.

Ok so I have read all of the posts, and I don't think that there has been one positive comment about this company. I too had starry eyes when talking to the recruiter recently. It seems that if you are okay with a one year gig, then go for it. If the potential is there to make $300 K in that first year, then I just might go for it. But $157 K aint going to cut the mustard if I have to cut bait in 12 months. I can find a gig like that somewhere else. So, with these small cut up territories, are you working alone and only responsible for yourself? I thought I read a few posts back that Zoll utilizes the "pod" business structure?? I have worked in my own territory for the last decade. I am not about pulling someone else's weight. Also, I was told that Dallas is doing well...any advice?

Dallas is doing great and they have a terrific manager. This is a great job if you're willing to work.

This job is what you make it. I see that some reps do struggle. But I also see reps who work their asses off and have outstanding numbers and make great commissions at that.. I happen to be one of them. If you work this job with a pharma mentality, you will not succeed. If you work this job from a purely med device perspective, you're also likely to fail because at times you do need to suck it up and show up at a doctor's office to have a conversation. The majority of your time of course, does need to be spent in the hospitals (more efficient use of your time). I give this job all I've got and I'm seeing exactly the results I want. So if you're interviewing for this job, don't listen to everyone else, feel out the territory, the manager, ask the right questions, and then make a decision as to whether this is the opportunity for you.

This organization is a total mess!! I have been a TM for several months, and I am shocked by what I have to deal with. Coming from CRM, this is such a joke! My RM is a borderline surf burnout and my AD is a pervy old man that knows nothing about the business!! These two guys do not even know the LV indications, and just tell me to use my looks/boobs to get MO's...very professional. No support, horrible comp and zero direction. Stay away, and if I could only turn the clock back!!

ONLY if you have no other option, are desperate, and will not need your customers for your next job. If the above are true, you may have to take a Life Vest position long enough for you to find something else. Do not accept this position in any territory unless you are really facing a financial hardship. Remember that you will most likely not be able to call on your Dr's after you leave because they will be so turned off by what you did in your role as a Life Vest rep. Make sure your customers know that this is a short term move for you to pay the bills until you find something else. This is the only way they will respect you. Find something as soon as you can, wipe your ass with the rag that Zoll is, and move on.

Poster above 100% correct. Do not sell your soul or be so aggressive you'll kill the relationships or your self-respect. Warn customers your RM will irritate the sh*t out of them.

Stay away!!!!!

Manager in so Florida, I think her name is Marty Feldman is terrible. I've heard she is a complete zero.... Run from this company. You'll be selling underwear that nobody wants to wear and then you'll get to ask the poor pt for their credit card to pay the uncovered portion-

Just as bad for us former pharma reps. Short term job. Take it only if it's your only option.

They can't! IT IS OVERSOLD! IT IS DONe. A couple of years ago they almost lost Medicare coverage. The only thing that saved them was "preliminary VEST data", which btw showed people did die in the vest, AND psychological had poorer health outcomes. Look at the heavy penetrated managed care areas of the country CA/NY/New England/Minn. Vest shits the bed. My advice take the job don't work it bank the money and find something else at the same time. Do not risk your credibility, the reputation of your customers or put patients through complete hell. This place is a complete toilet, run by used has-beens "following the plan" to retirement. Leadership that is a bunch of misfit toys working through Napolean issues from childhood.

Probably the best descriptive and most accurate post I have seen regarding Zoll. We will be able to squeeze a little more growth from new markets but the poster is right, the message has been played, VEST data is not good and orders are being kicked back at an alarming rate across the entire country. It ain't over yet, but we're close. Ask yourself this. What message did you take away from the meeting from other TM's. GET OUT ASAP! Management is exactly as described above. Spineless washed up 3rd tier managers if you can call them that, following orders from above. If you work for this company for more than a year, you compromise your professional career in the eyes of almost everyone. Sure there are other shit companies out there, but once you start down this path and it starts with Zoll, you will get stuck in this lane to hell. If you are out looking in just stay out. The rest of us need to get out. Don't think you will have a different experience, this job is not about protecting lives, it's about generating as much revenue using very sleezy methods. STAY OUT

call me naïve. I am sick to my stomach already and I am here only a couple of months. I was blatantly lied to (time to ramp up, achievable numbers, support, training). I came from specialty pharma and took a big risk and have been burned. Sink or swim is the training, thank god for a few veterans who are nice enough to help me out. I have never been spoken to as rudely and as unprofessionally as I have consistently experienced here. HOWEVER THE BIGGEST ISSUE I HAVE IS PATIENTS ARE BEING FIT WITHOUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY APPROVING THE DEVICE! THIS IS WRONG! Patients are in the bed and are asked (coerced) into signing " you could die/discharge is dependent on this". With over a 100,000 patients you would think this company would have a better process than "slamming" someone. Great device, filthy company!

Disgusting. With over 100,000 patients and only 1% or less being saved by the LV is disgusting that anyone is coerced to pay for it. 99% of the time they will be ok doing nothing. With results like that I would think that more and more insurance companies will be placing roadblocks to coverage. Why isn't the company publishing the number of saved lives anymore? More than likely because customers can do the math themselves..100,000 patients and 1,000 patient lives=1%..it is hard to refute that data. The other thing that bothers me is that most of the studies and data that the company tells you to sue to "sell" risk do not include the LV. So basically it's selling without any scientific data that the LV actually saves lives. I would think more insurance companies will stop paying for this smoke and mirrors product. I agree with what everyone is saying on this board do not stay more than a year or it will be much more difficult for you to get a job than before you came to Zoll.

First I have been in medical sales and management for over 25 years and yes to many of you all that means is that I am old. I have been with this organization just over a year. The turn over (even with expansion) is in the 60-70 percent range. So why is this? First your success is strictly tied to reimbursement. If you live in an area that has insurance coverage you can succeed for a SHORT time. Commissions are a FLAT 5k 6k or 7k per month based on what tier your territory is ( tiers are tied to over all territory sales dollars) in the future with expansion every territory will probably be a tier 1. Come in just short of 100% and forget your commission check. As further example of company stupidity lets say you live in Maine and your quota is (1) patient because nobody in Maine believes in the product, and that correlates to a reimbursement of let's say $2100 dollars. And let's say you are lucky enough to get a a Doctor to Rx for the vest and you hit your quota! You will receive a commission check of $5000.00 dollars. Now let's look at Detroit where the TM quota is 100k for the month. TM comes in at 95k or just under quota and guess what? Yup you guessed it! You get a go get em next month speech. Tie a few of those 95% to quota months together and you can expect to see your job posted on med reps while your still there. Next let's talk about management. Company does not believe in promoting from within probably for a couple reasons. First nobody who sold the product will take the position and second they need mindless mostly spineless people to follow and enforce there message of fear to the troops, patients and Doctors! Yes the message here is not solid clinical data but what if and it could happen to you. One of the major problems between management and sales is the fact that management has not sold the product and does not know the PROCESS that is involved to get a patient approved and fitted with the product. Add in the fact that most don't have cardiac experience and can't talk to your customers...well you get the idea. Next let's explore your role as a sales rep. Will you have control of your inventory? No you have a Account Manager who previously worked for Costco who is incentivized to make sure that you have the bare minimum number of vests to cover your geography. Have an emergency and the Hospital wants a patient out early ? then start up your car and drive to the neighboring town of one of your colleagues to pick up a vest. Do you have control over your patients issues with the vest? Forget it. Here ZOLL has cleverly come up with a tech support team that is second only to trying to get your computer fixed over the phone with someone in India. BTW I'm referring to Pittsburgh which used to be one of my favorite places to visit. Customer has an issue which happens ROUTINELY and you can expect to have the whole mess dumped in your lap after tech support has the patient in such a frenzy that you have to explain to the patient, Doctor and anyone else in the loop that you will go the extra mile to keep the business. In conclusion I could go on and on. Fact of the matter is I'm at 100 percent to quota so my bone to pick isn't money or a stupid manager...well strike that he is stupid, it's the fact that the company modo should be see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Nobody sees a problem, nobody talks about issues affecting sales reps ability to increase sales and nobody will listen. Still want the job? You'll fit right in! Good luck!

Very accurate picture. The only thing you left out is that your goal will skyrocket in year two, so if you were making goal in year one you sure as He** will not be making goal in year two. This is why the majority of the reps are under 2 years.
