What is with this place?

I work in a non-commercial area and this is pretty accurate and has happened to 100's of employees over the past few years intentionally in sales and other areas. It's always explained as "performance related" issues, but we know other factors are involved. We also know the Japanese position on employment is very different, so we can attribute this US passive/aggressive approach to our senior management. In addition to the wide-spread cultural damage and complete lack of trust in management, the settlements have added up to a very large amount of $$.

Speed of Trust and $1 more

This gives them reason to continue to be passive aggressive and weed people out as needed...why blow out the numbers, thats makes leadership look bad.

Too bad they weeded out many of the good people who voiced their opinions because they were trying to make Astellas better. Literally, if you want to stay employed here keep your mouth shut unless you are praising the higher ups.

I get what you're saying but how can Japan not notice what is going on here? Constant turnover and lawsuits? You can't tell me they are in the dark with all this.

Japan does NOT care about any non-Japanese employee. They look at us as slaves and believe Americans and European are lazy. They know what is goi g on, Hatanaka was a CEO in USA before going to Japan. He does not give a damn how HR or your manager treats you, he probably encourages them and hides behind the legal.

Constant turn-over of good people - yes ; constant lawsuits - no.

The employee gets a lawyer, gathers evidence, and "threatens" a lawsuit. Astellas will settle to avoid the lawsuit getting filed and it won't be listed in the court system. Once things have fallen apart this bad I guess this approach is a win-win for both parties since the employee might not want an employer lawsuit attached to their name either which could scare off future employers.

It's even more wicked and dysfunctional than described above. Individuals are targeted because they "don't fit in" or "under perform" according to their manager. Employee records are manufactured to make a case of poor performance without any sense of fairness. There is a systematic process in place called EMPLOYEE CALIBRATIONS that allows upper management the discretion to reward a chosen few that suck up and play the game. Individuals that cause problems or are just different are down graded, receive a lower rating (bonus, PIP, etc) and kept from career opportunities. It's a nasty, disrespectful and cowardly situation that completely screws with good employees. Unfortunately, no changes are expected in the future under current management. If this sounds crazy, then you are either completely nieve or too deep in the BFF club.

Calibration is a major problem. Imput allowed from other RSMs as well. What are they supposed to know? Basically if your RSM is in good with the AD you'll get a raise and PIP. If not, you will get bare bones of both.

Civil lawsuites are not always captured in anyone's history and unless there is a class action lawsuit will not appear upon background check of employees. There are few senior managements currently in Astellas who have come from other companies that had filed and in two cases had won the lawsuites BUT it does not show in any background checks.

Background checks will only include your employment history, start and stop dates, nothing else, not even your salary etc nor the reason you left the company, by law no company can share such information, what they can share is your start and stop date, that is why in most cases, system in automated.

Also your education background check, degree etc as well any Criminal history, driving and credit check. Some company wil also require drug tests.

Regardless of "views" or "folks" I think it's pretty clear this place has some deeply rooted issues with it's culture, HR and upper management. Very sad.

Horrible culture at Astellas, but watch we will get some award this year for "Best Companies To Work For" - haha.

To quote GoT. Tyrion: "Of course it's a joke, just not a very funny one."

no it doesn't count the same person viewing it from the same IP address more than once. Considering how many reps we have I think it's safe to say by now this thread has reached the people in charge of change!

This isn't just a sales board, people from other areas of the company visit cafepharma too.

The entire HR department should be ousted. The last 4 years of leadership under CT have brought into leadership bullies and/or rejects from other pharma companies. These idiots completely ruined Astellas.
