Nominations for worst manager at Novartis

want a solution? ABLs bring zero value to the field. They are a constant nuisance and require reps asking for favors from offices in order for them to be tolerated. The solution is to get rid of half of them and their high salaries. Then each ABl has double or triple the amount of reps they are responsible for. Their job should be approving expense reports, putting out fires, if need and meeting up with each rep once per trimester for a business review. Stop the nonsense of babysitting tenured reps with field rides. In over 20 years in this Industry.. no manager has ever offered any “coaching” that was worth two cents. Get over yourself
Shut the hell up. You’re pathetic.

!00% spot on. All of Pharma needs to evolve with the times. Field rides are not for the customer but just for the ABL to justify their job. Look Mr. RD I did 15 field rides this month. I understand they have a job to perform but it's a worthless job in 2023. If you have to babysit you made a bad hire.

ohh. Guess I hit a nerve. The truth hurts. So tired of the smoke and mirrors show.. pretending ABLs bring any value. They don’t.
No. You’re just pathetic, and your idiotic palaver is obnoxious. Since you don’t seem to notice, your ideas are ridiculous, which is why you are whining, and nothing has changed. If you don’t like it, quit. Get a real sales job and see if your idiotic grousing gets you anywhere. Otherwise, get ready, you have field rides coming.

This is so true! Been saying for years there’s no need for this useless middle management role. It’s a waste of money. I can’t believe pharma companies haven’t revamped the structure to either eliminate ABL roles or as you said give them double or triple the reps etc.

With that being said, my manager is in eyecare on the northeast team. He’s actually a decent guy and has always been good to me. He can be intense, but I think he means well. He has metrics to hit too so whatever hw does it’s usually coming from above him.

“Been saying for years.” There’s a surprise, no one takes the ideas of petulant idiots’ seriously.

Instead of slinging insults.. why don’t you tell us why the idea is so ridiculous? In no way was I kidding. I think it solves a lot of problems. Obviously other reps agree too by the comments written.

Shut the hell up. You’re pathetic.

That is legitimately the best you could do?
I've done both types of sales that you allude to and there is a common thread - accounts don't appreciate managers tagging along in any selling environment.
FRM's? Sure, in some cases.
MSL's? Sure, in some cases.
They provide solutions and institutional value.
ABL's are there to judge and evaluate the rep. In the accounts workplace.
How is that creating value for the account?
If you want ABL's selling, get rid of the reps and put them in the field full-time.
This has nothing to do with whether the reps like it or not, because no reasonable person thinks Novartis gives a squirt of piss about the reps.
If Novartis cared about the accounts they claim "to serve", they'd severely dial back ABL field rides and cut out the home office field contacts altogether, as those are far more egregious.

yep mgrs too dumb and lack the self awareness to know they make fools of themselves on the classic ride along. The reps, docs and staff all laugh at the dumb asses all while the delusional mgr believes they’re creating value. It’s the worlds biggest fraud and it’s laughable.

I never quite understood what being “intense”in this job quite honestly means. I can’t see being intense in this job as being very advantageous to being successful. The occupation and situation that you will be in with people does not demand an intense personality. You could easily turn someone off. Unless you’re an outside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, leave the intensity at home for the benefit of everybody in the sales process.

You accepted the offer. Therefore, you will take us to whomever, whenever we choose. Your accounts are free to limit access, but you don’t get opt-out of field rides. Again, if you don’t like it, start your own company or find one that doesn’t have field rides. We are not getting rid of them, and you will continue to host ABLs or anyone else the organization designates. Throw your online tantrums as much as you would like, nothing will change. If anyone cared about your poor analyses of the business, you all would not be reps.

My manager completely dominates every conversation and thinks he’s “building rapport,” but all we really accomplished was he talked about himself a lot while my providers gave me the side eye. It’s so uncomfortable and I hate wasting my call on it.

Truth. Self serving morons are what 90% of mgrs are.

You either can't read, or your too obtuse to process the content.
I agree with you - Novartis will never dispense with field rides.
The fact that our accounts hate them doesn't matter to senior management, they'll force it down the customers throats anyway.
They don't benefit the account one iota, and they are a net negative because absolutely nobody wants the ABL there.
But you are correct, Novartis will never change because that would take vision and concern for the customer.
You can bluster and bloviate all you want about how you can force reps to take you out, and you're correct.
That said, it has to be a long and uncomfortable day when you know every person you cross paths with wishes you weren't there.
My bet is, in your case, its not a whole lot different when you get home, is it?
