New Diabetes Sales Specialist positions?

if you can't get one of these positions you really are a loser. these are as easy to get as burger King positions. It's basically a sign on the line for a few months or until they dont want us anymore. Demeaning, worthless, idiot job.

Really? Wow. Here's a news flash: NO JOB is easy to get in this economy.

Pharma, whether you are with a direct or a CSO has its pros and cons. If you think it is a demeaning, worthless, and idiot job that's your opinion.

However, I can think of just a FEW MILLION Americans who would be greatly pleased with making close to 100K with base & bonus, company car, 401K, and medical benefits.

We dont get 401k, jack ass. The bonus doesnt exist in reality. The car is a piece, the base is half of what the direct reps make. There are no pros to being cso. Only cons. It is the lowest of the lowest.

I got 401K matched and was fully vested with Ventiv, my car was GREAT and my base was competitive with big pharma-whoever posts these negative comments has not even probably worked for a Ventiv contract, as far as security-there is not real security with working directly for a manufacturer either-it depends on the DM and corporate culture of the company represented

The guy writing all the negative crap is a moron. If you're interested in this gig, it's a two yr stint, with the possibility of renewing with Amylin. If Amylin doesn't renew, it doesn't mean Ventiv won't craft an agreement with another company. You have to way your current position.....are you unemployed?...are you with Astra and maybe on the hook to be layed off?....are you unhappy with your current position?...etc. Only you have the answer. The job gives you all the standard benefits....salary 60 to 70K+, medical/dental, car, and yes...401K. And again, don't listen to the imbecile who will no doubt respond in some unamusing way. He's an asshole.

I cant speak for any other posters on here. But I can speak for MYSELF. I am on a Ventiv contract right now and I have to agree with all of these posts it is horrible. The pay and total package is about 1/2 in total of what is being made with a real company. These are for the desperate and those left behind for the jobs in demand. I will be gone by the 1st of the year hopefully. No not direct, we are not even candidates for those jobs. I have to leave the industry all together because NO ONE will even consider me now that I have been a cso for a year. I have ruined any chance of a future. This is the TRUTH. Now go ahead and respond how successful and happy all you cso's counterparts are. I work with you. I know you are miserable and desperate.

Then find another job or quit trolling the cso boards, douche! It's a JOB and any job opportunities right now are very far and few between. Bonus doesn't exist with most pharma jobs anymore. People are excited about this opportunity...nobody is interested in your negativity.

Most people in pharma are miserable, whether they're direct with a great company or on a contract for a crappy cso. The industry is not what it once was. The problem is reps are stuck in this crap industry because *newsflash* there ARE NO JOBS of any sort right now.
I have worked for a crappy CSO for the past year and yes, I agree that I don't think it's done any huge favors for my resume, but honestly it's all in how you market yourself. Hiring managers do understand if you've taken a contract for the past year to keep working, what they don't understand are the candidates that have sat on their asses for the past year bc they're too good to take a cso position.

Great post. Very accurate. Pharma is definitely not what it once was and access is getting tougher and tougher. I am sure many people would like to leave pharma, but stuck staying by the worst economy since the Great Depression, as well as tied by the "golden handcuffs", i.e., high pay, company car, great benefits (especially those who have been in for a long time). There is simply no place to go, so rather than be negative, focus on the positive aspects of the job, and be VERY THANKFUL that you have one.

BTW, if you think the U.S. is bad, the European economy is literally falling apart. Just the times we live in now. Stay positive and be strong.

And you are still a CSO? Why don't you go get a real job? Oh thats right....

Clearly you don't work here. Yes we do get 401k and as of 2010 it's through T Rowe Price. They will match you 3% of you put in 6%. The cars are new so they are not pos. The base is lower but not half unless you were making 130K base. There is a bonus and that depends on the contact. All contracts are structured different. Get your facts straight before making false claims.

These jobs are only for the desperate. No one in their right mind would flush their career down the toilet by taking a temp. contract job unless they were absolutely desperate. The problem is everyone knows and the chances of a good job in the future are gone. I tried for a year to get back on with a good position after taking a CSO position and I got nowhere. I am now selling ins. GREAT 401K, I just dont make enough to contribute. I ruined my chances at anyting good by taking contract. Dont let it happen to you. Happy Hanukkah.

Be it as it may but you thoughts are way off. Let's see here, 30k plus rep jobs slashed since 2007 with CSO's growing. It seems to me that your "good" jobs are far and few between with many, many people applying for the few opportunities that do exist. CSO on your resume does not hurt your chances. Big pharma is dead and CSO's will continue to grow until the industry overall dies. It's more cost effective and look at the structure of the CSO's now. They consist of many displaced pharma reps. I don't celebrate Hanukkah, Merry Christmas.

sellings ins. captive agent or working for an independent agent? are you selling p/c or life and health, reason for the inquire, looking to get in that industry myself and just wondering how it is going, name of the company you are employed with, etc

I would have to agree that working contract sucks. We all know it does.
