New diabetes positions

The recruiter mentioned doing a lot of lunches. Is a corporate card provided, or do we pay out of pocket and wait for reimbursement? Any idea? Am also wondering how attainable the bonus is, are the numbers realistic? I have always made top bonus, but have never worked with a contract company before. Thanks for any info.

I am going through the interview process now for the AZ contract. I had my initial phone screen earlier this week. I was called with a follow up today that I would be having a phone screen with the dm next week then a f2f the week after. I was also emailed the employment application/background/dmv checks today. I was told that offers would go out June 26 and start date would be July 19. I was also told that $70 base was realistic during my first phone conversation with them. I have 8.5 years of big pharma exp and just went through a lay off so at this point, I agree with the rest of you and will take the pay cut. They told me that they were hiring 288 reps nationwide with this contract and it was "expected to last until 12/2014. They are hiring 2 contract reps in my city right now.

That Wyeth sales force has been gone over 6 years. Some of them are still trying to get back in? I am confused at what you mean

I think they are referring to the Wyeth mafia that runs Publicis. There are many Wyeth's in upper management and they get hired first for management and rep jobs. Those of us that have worked with or for them do not like them or their little club because they are all the same - no talent whatsoever, back stabbers, liars and master manipulators. They go far here because their friends look out for them and because they are all ass kissing cheerleaders. Ask any of them a relevant business question that requires real industry knowledge. Ask them to sell you something. You'll get a good laugh. It is kind of sad because some very good people have been turned away from this company over the years in order to keep "The Wyeth's" around. The talent pool is extremely diluted because of these people. Everyone else has to carry their weight. They sound great on a conference call, though. And their beautiful cheerleading emails... sublime.

Don't blame that once great company Wyeth. I was once a employee with them and at least they knew for the most par how to treat their people. Yes the have lied to their employee at times about layoffs. At the end of the day all companies lay people off in pharma. Unless you are launching a new drug then there is no guarentee that you will be there any longer than a year or two. With no new products and the need to keep the stock price up layoffs in this industry are the cold truth. Contract is just a stop gap to keep the messge out in the field with someone who gets nothing but false hope that if they do good work the contract could get extended. Just like the golfing and the nice functions that this industry once did to conduct their business. The career rep has becom a thing of the past. If you stay in pharma as a contract be reay to go thru the pain of job search year after year hoping that some other company is ready to cut lose their direct employees in search of that contract rep that is just happy to have a job. This contract in particular with AZ Inventiv and now Publicis will piss off so many offices with the same products being promoted it will simply turn a call presentation to a sign here and then your samples are on their way. Offices will get so overcrowded with the products being shipped they will either give them away in larger amounts in hopes of winning the numbers game vs the competitors or stop signing because they don't want anymore. The promise will comes that if you do a good job and drive sales you might get brought on as a direct employee or the contract could get extended. To those points I would say you could buy a lottery ticket an win the lottery, chances are none of the above will happen and back to square one you go. I realize that times are had especially in this industry that once had a lot of hope. Now as the Gov health care takes over and no new product production. The layoffs will continue to happen in large numbers. True contract is a who you know position but who you know will not get that contract extended or give you the dollars you once made. Musical charis is the best way to sum up this industry either contract or direct. Once the company announces layoffs, it time to look for a chair and much like the Titanic there will not be enough to go around. Worse yet if it is a sell off like the former company you mentioned Wyeth. The top brass will row off in lifeboats filled with money rather than caring about the people that did the dirty work to keep the stock up and generate revenue for the company.

WoW!! Thanks for being normal on this blog and just relaying information!! I stopped going on this site a while ago because every time I clicked to get info the responses were from MEAN/NASTY people. I was curious about the car thing and I don't think 600 is too bad and the tax write-off helps!! THANKS :)

How about I Indiana? Anyone had a call? I have lots of experience, but no diabetes experience. Sounds like from the above posts they may be only looking for diabetes experience.

Has anyone without diabetes experience been moved to a face to face interview? I have worked for publicis but do not have diabetes experience. from the posts here it looks like that may be one of the requirements?

Former Publicis rep here, I have over 10 yrs in pharma with an excellent sales record but no diabetes and I haven't been moved forward yet either- was contacted initially by recruiter but have not heard anything else yet. One of two possibilities: manager is it in place yet or I'm out due to lack of diabetes

If your out then consider yourself lucky. Sure the stop gap pay check would be nice but the way this and many contracts come together shows the lack of respect for people that Big pharma and these contract companies have. The industry became so overgrown with reps when the market people went from "share of voice" to customer focused selling tht they cut and will continue to cut until they either get bought or buy someone else. This is how Pfizer has survived the past few years. Now throw in contract that has made things eve worse for the employee. Sign on for a contract that might promise a year or even two. Reality is that they can end at any time and just as the end comes you will hear of possible roll overs and hopes of getting the contract extended all to keep you out there making your 8 to 11 required calls a day. The contract game is fixed so that the contract company and the parent company wins. There are so many reps looking for jobs they offer a low salary and little benefits. Bonus well that's a good one. They want box checkers an sample droppers. If you think effort or true sales will make you stand out then think again. They bring you on for a year or two and you are excited to have a job so you might work harder than the reps that are direct and have been there for some time. You hit the offices with that same excitement that your pill will help them treat their patients better. The reality or generics and managed care will take away this ambition really quick. Think back if you ever saw the entertaining discription of a year in the life of a pharma rep. It is out there somewhere and it rings so true. The story goes like this. You love it at first and then after sometime you figure out that it's a one way street. Contract role only accelerates this process and before you know it the year is up and you are back on the job hunt trail after that hope of a contract extention has left you hope dry and empty. This process will repeat it's self ovcer and over agin until reps are no longer needed. This day may be sooner than many think as the combonation of the Sunshine Act and Obamacare take hold. If you want a job with a year or two life expectancy and then your done, contract will do fine. If it is a career you seek then I would suggest looking elsewhere. New contract yes. Same old BS promissed from Inventiv, Quintiles, and Publicis. Contract is for holders on. Move on I say you are better than what they have to offer.

F.Y.I! The IRS allows .55/mile,at tax time you can write off the other .36/mile.Big tax write off,but don't forget to subtract your $600/month car allowance from total.Good luck!

Please clarify - how can you subtract your car allowance from your taxes? Do you know what line item this would go under? Just calculating $600 x 12 months equals $7200, which would be a nice deduction, but what category of deduction does it get placed under?

Thank you for the much needed reality check. In fact, I have an interview upcoming with a company outside of pharma, and the anticipation of finally getting out of this "cycle of misery" is a thrill...... I can't wait to feel good again about my job and appreciated.

I agree with everything above except for "the once great Wyeth" part. They were around when the other big pharma companies were great but Wyeth never hit the mark of being a great company. Their reps were paid less than other companies. I worked for a former Wyeth manager ad she was a nightmare. I knew more in my first year of pharma than she did after 20 years. Her name is all over this site and she has been hated for years. No idea how she ever got into management.
This new contract will depend on how much growth BMS really thinks they can get out of these drugs. With new, superior drugs arriving soon, we'll have to see. I'm thinking $70K and $20 bonus. I have relationships in place and won't accept less. It's chump change already.

The whole industry is chump change now. Nowhere to go but another industry or make five figures till you retire.
