I spent all day in between calls checking stores for hand sanitizer, wipes, rubbing alcohol..there was none. I didn't stock up before bc I didn't think I'd need it. I'm not "at risk" however as we continue to work in compromised areas we do need it. When I can I'm using office sanitizer and waiting until I'm outside but it isn't always available.
As for DSMs in field with us that's their choice. They're expected to continue business as usual then they're being put at risk just like us.

Yeah, I just don't get it. How essential is a DM field ride?! Give me a break. They can still do "field contacts" by FaceTiming us, have a virtual meeting, etc. Heck, if they need to know if reps are on top of things, have a stupid virtual role-play!

I would say they are pretty essential. We don't need the inmates running the asylum. Reps want coaching and in my experience reps definitely need coaching. This is being over played by the media- probably political to make Trump look bad. The fact of the matter is you have a much better chance of getting the normal flu than the Corona virus.

How quickly you'll change your tune when someone close to you gets infected. Maybe YOU get infected bc of your arrogance..bc you didn't take precautions. Maybe you'll be okay, but what about every other individual you come across? Is everyone you breath on on a daily basis young and healthy? Chances are no. Chances are you're leaving bacteria on surfaces as you go. Congratulations! While you were on your high horse... you've now put other people's lives at risk.

It's actually very contagious, and in areas where it's spreading chances are obviously greater and reps are currently at risk for exposure. Inmates running the asylum really??!???! Puhlease! This is more important. Aren't we all about patient lives!?

Indianapolis chooses to have people work from home cause they care about our people. But they take a wait and see approach with the field reps who are the most exposed. So what they mean is they are concerned with the Indianapolis employees safety, but us field peasants need to go get those scripts baby!!!

Guess they ignored what happened in Boston with Biogen last week. 70 confirmed cases as a result of that meeting and hundreds more under quarantine.

If I ever questioned whether our industry was driven by greed, unfortunately this situation and these companies attitudes towards field based employees seems to have provided the answer.

2 things I have learned from this:

1) We the pharmaceutical reps must be pretty valuable to the company.

2) For being so important the company still sees us as disposable, despicable, robots, who are good for nothing except delivering a message. World Wide Epidemic....no big deal....keep selling!

No kidding! It's crazy. "Breaking News" tonight is that Eli Lilly employees are being told to work from home as a preventative measure to reduce risk... Yet they still want reps to be in and out of doctor's offices which would carry the MOST risk. And if our company won't pull us, I can't help but wonder how many offices are going to have signs on their doors tomorrow morning saying "no reps/no vendors until further notice!" (Of course I mean the offices that didn't already outlaw reps).

There is plenty of work I could do from home. And no, I'm not worried about myself and I know the flu is FAR worse. BUT, this thing is extremely contagious and I do worry about my parents and other older adults. I don't want to be responsible for passing it on to them and I would think Lilly and other pharma companies would think about that.

I am not a manager nor do I want to be. I find no joy in hearing about people who lost their jobs and are now struggling doing something like selling cars, however.

I can think of a Pfizer manager in Indiana that should be laid off but instead has fired people or ran them off unnecessarily. They think they are so great when their reps kiss up to them. In reality, the reps wouldn't give them the time of day if they weren't getting something in return.

Like what?? All the hand washing, fist bumping, and reduced lunches in the world isn't going to stop someone who has the virus from standing within 6 feet of me while i'm in an office. The virus doesn't even present itself for 5 or more days. So while i'm patiently waiting in an office with 20 sick people around me and one person sneezes, I now have the virus. Yipee. The only universal precaution is to stay home
