AZ was always Good to Me.

Trust !?! Why lemme tell you something about trust. We used to gather in a trust circle after every sales meeting, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE (even lefties) reached to your right and give your teammate a squeeze. Nobody ever complained or whined to HR cause we knew we had each other’s back. Well aleast when we shared hotel rooms during the meeting. Yes sir AZ been real real good to me.

When we were reps, nobody provided lunch for the office staff! We sat down with the doc and DETAILED our products. It was product knowledge and professional respect that SOLD. Sorry that our profession devolved to food delivery and sample drops. Glad I was in pharma when reps mattered.
I fondly remember those days! We never gave hallway details or brought in lunches. The norm was to meet in the doctor's personal office and in between patients we would have a sit-down sales discussion. I had one doc who made hlghly-caffeinated Cuban coffee and he would insist that we "relax" and have a cup of his coffee. I am fortunate to have worked for AZ!

I joined right out of college and only owned a blue blazer. I borrowed some money from my folks to buy 3 modest business suits, shirts, ties, and dress shoes! Went for 4 weeks of initial training and then trained several weeks with experienced reps and my DM! My first day alone in the territory was both scary and exciting. Docs and office staff warmly welcomed me as the newbie and I spent the next 23 years making AZ great. AZ was always good to me!

It was me, Kenny, Brian, Scarface and of course, lovable old’ James. Oh wait hold on wait a minute, old’ James wasn’t there. Hell, I don’t even know anybody named old’ James, shoot.

I started with AZ in 1999..CV division. Atacand, Toprol-XL, Zestril. When we went to training in Framington, Mass. The first day we had a test...of the about 30 people in the class I was the only one to get 100%.
And the test was not hard. Oh well. AZ also good to me!

My grandson and I, AZ California retiree, attended last Friday's Aftershock Concerts in Sacramento! Just wanted to shout out how great the KISS concert was and those guys can still ROCK hard!! Have to say that AZ rocked my world!

Well, I must say that my 30+ years at Stuart Pharmaceuticals, ICI Pharma, Zeneca and AstraZeneca were great! I launched Tenormin (atenolol), and many others. Meetings were great, my managers were great. We actually were able to be a resource to our docs. We were allowed to do many things that would get you fired today. I know, we were all very lucky to start our careers when we did in what many have said was the Golden Age of the pharmaceutical rep. So sad it’s not like that today.

True dat!

Great post above. I knew the Tenormin rep in Bradenton/Sarasota in the mid 80's. She was cool, and she sold a Ton of it. I sold Cardizem back then. Stuart a great company with great sales reps/mgrs.

Such great times back then. I understand that all your meetings offer single overnight rooms for all reps. I sort of enjoyed having a pod mate with shared overnight rooms. We would actually work on our messaging and prepare for role plays the next day. Maybe if AZ were to go back to roommates at meetings the comradery would be improve and the anger on these boards wouldn't be so bad. I always hustled in the field and tried to give back more to the organization because AZ was always good to me.

I hear you. Unfortunately, “comradery” does not exist.

I got into pharma because my Dad was a rep in the early days, and we had a pretty decent life when I was growing up. I didn’t hear Dad complain much about the people he worked with and for, but I have to say things have change quite a bit. Most of my colleagues are ok, and a few are actually really solid, but I haven’t had a single good manager, and the people above my managers were and are even worse. It seems to me they/we promote people into leadership roles for the wrong reasons, and what we’re stuck with are self serving, empty suit types who think they’re good because AZ promoted them. We need to figure out how to get good people to move up and how to not let the wrong people advance. We should start by killing all the programs like the minority and women in leadership programs because they just exacerbate this issue. Just promote the est people and quit fixating on things that have nothing to do with leadership ability. AZ must’ve been a lot better back in the day. You all are lucky.

Embrace the work agenda or you are a racist (and probably a few other “ists” too). ;)

Back in the 80s, I was promoted to hospital rep for 6 teaching hospitals in Chicago. It was a blast calling on the department chiefs, fellows, residents, nurses, and med students! Competitor reps and I would meet for coffee or lunch to share info and school new hospital reps to ensure our open door status at the hospitals was maintained. Everyone got along and we all made big $s. Those were great selling days, AZ alumnus proud!
