AZ was always Good to Me.

AZ was a great career for me. I believe the downfall of pharma reps is due to: 1. Management allowing sales reps to become food caterers, 2. Hiring of cheerleaders and frat jocks, 3. Mirror sales forces —> increased call frequency led to rapid access decline, 4. Speaker dinner programs, 5. Promotion of Peacock reps to Management positions 6. Contract sales reps

Yes! Agreed. I started in 1999 so I missed the best years.
I would add:
The increase in “coaching” ride alongs. Gone are the days when your manager was a true resource. Make a few calls and then discuss strategy. Not sure what the benefit of 2 day all day ride alongs every 6 weeks can be…except job justification and metric box checking. I have new old school manager who is smart and a resource. He rides with me for 1 day every 6 weeks. I actually ask him to join me for me key accounts. At the end of the day we pull out my calendar and we look to see what I have that he could join. I truly feel like he is there to help me. I cannot tell you what a difference it makes!! He is probably going to get promoted, but I can only selfishly hope I keep him till I retire. I forgot what a good manager can be.

It’s babysitting and busy work for managers who have nothing else to do.
The company knows access is becoming non existent and wants us out working at least two days a week.
The manager-rep ratio needs to be changed to 1:20.

Spot on! Another reason: 7. Allowing reps to scrubs during pandemic

We had THE best time with Nexium ! Our district used food coloring to dye our faces purple then we took Welch’s grape juice with homemade peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches into the Hospitals for our P&T Committee meeting. Best discussion EVER ! The Committee approved unanimously on first vote - Formulary open and we were GRAPEFUL ! Come on man - those were the days.

You’re a dumbass. Female managers - and most male managers, by the way - are butt-kissing light weights who have the unmitigated gaul to call themselves “leaders”. I say most men because there are a few good ones since they don’t benefit from the stupid affirmative action “women in leadership” programs that have catapulted incompetence to an absurd height.
Read it again dumbass!!

Scrubs are the new norm. Get over it already.

Business attire was the policy for all meetings and customer calls. We took great pride in dressing for success when representing AZ. We were professional sales people and our customers respected us. Sorry for the old days remembrance but maybe today’s reps could benefit by our business history. NJ alumnus

With my Knickerbocker suit, suspenders, linen cap, monocle, and gold bond shoes I was the toast of the town$

That is correct, dress like a professional, not a slob. I found one lady (pt.) in the waiting room who made custom made suits...well she said she would make me some...for $225/suit....best suits ever...and she took one of our meds, and the nurse/doc hooked her up

Add some Stacy Adams and Kenneth Coles, Jos A Bank shirts, with a few Calvin Klein ties and you’ll be the bees knees.

That's right and we felt good about our professional appearance! We had ready access to physicians and were treated with respect by our customers. Nothing wrong with remembering the past and AZ was great to me!

You're dating yourself in this dated industry, boomer. Why did you need to wear a suit and tie to feel good about yourself? Modern reps don't need to dress up to feel important. If you were productive, valued, and respected by your customers and colleagues in dress attire, you'll be productive, valued, and respected by your customers and colleagues in scrubs. And you'll blend in with office staff which is the idea. Silicon Valley billionaires and all of their employees wear t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers to work...work that is increasingly done remotely from the comfort of a home office. This strict dress code boomer mentality died a long time ago. Get with the times and get over it already.

Bad comparison, those t-shirts and jeans are +$500. Brunello Cucinelli has a lot of fans in Silicon Valley
