AZ was always Good to Me.

You're dating yourself in this dated industry, boomer. Why did you need to wear a suit and tie to feel good about yourself? Modern reps don't need to dress up to feel important. If you were productive, valued, and respected by your customers and colleagues in dress attire, you'll be productive, valued, and respected by your customers and colleagues in scrubs. And you'll blend in with office staff which is the idea. Silicon Valley billionaires and all of their employees wear t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers to work...work that is increasingly done remotely from the comfort of a home office. This strict dress code boomer mentality died a long time ago. Get with the times and get over it already.

For your information "Dress Like a Slob" person, this is what I wanted and MOST customers wanted. Being a Pig like you...hurts everyone....but you don't care, because you like....Fruitcake!

The first thing others see is YOU—not your resume, background, or credentials. A picture is truly worth a thousand words and how you dress is the “picture” you provide for all the world to see. When we built AZ into a major pharma player, we dressed as professional sales representatives to accomplish our mission! You may define us as old timers but we are proud of our past professional successes. I fondly remember my wife always buying several new ties for me to wear at NSMs. I looked great and AZ was great to me!

Pharma reps wear scrubs for one reason only, and that’s to give the impression they are part of the medical world, which they are not. They want to be perceived as medical device reps which are truly part of the medical world and thought of as an integral part of a physician’s practice. They make twice what pharma reps make as well. You are a wannabe and nothing more.

Personally, I think the real reason why reps wear scrubs is because they are lazy and/or a slob and/or a fat mess. For most guys I know that wear scrubs, it's all three. The "blending in" is just their rationale.

I am so thankful for all the great years that AZ provided to me and my family. Such a great culture and appreciative of all that was provided in a great 20 year sales career. After all these years we are all truly blessed to have worked for such a fine organization! Now that I have retired a few years back I love to reflect during this glorious holiday season. Cheers to all the former AZ alumni and to those of you who are still working with this great company, fighting the good fight out there in the field each and every day! I miss it so much.

Great post and I too miss the good ole times. However, I would not want to be a rep in today’s marketplace.

Now that I’m done laughing - believe me, it took a bit - I’ll just say you are truly a dick weed.

Congrats on being a winner, and a person who did they best they could. I started this discussion...and I feel the same way. Good people and good drugs to sell. I retired from AZ in 2010. Great health insurance, then medicare took over...I remember the launch meeting for Crestor...It was a blast. I also launched Lipitor for Parke-Davis in 1997. Thanks AZ...the best to you!

drip, drip, drip

yes for those too stoopid to know what that means, #sarcasm

I found it quite funny.

Just remembering that I would always have two suits dry cleaned prior to NSMs. At one meeting, I was putting on my suit and found the pants zipper was ruined by the dry cleaner! I was a bit anxious but called the hotel's front desk and they kindly brought up a number of small safety pins! To say the least ,I did not drink a lot of fluids that day!! Our DM was an ex-Marine and he was a stickler on appearance. A tip he provided on achieving a professional shine on your business shoes - - - use pantyhose for the final buff. Our district always looked professional and successful. We were proud to be AZ Detail Men and Women!!!

As a rookie rep, I shadowed a Senior Rep for three days following HQ training. This guy was a legend and was in his territory for 20+ years. While he was a bit eccentric, all the doctors loved him. He made it a practice of putting a penny in his right shoe to reinforce his mission to sell our products! He also taught me the importance of trunk management for samples and detail literature. Unfortunately, I learned that he recently passed away. Good guy that made AZ great.
