AZ was always Good to Me.

As a rookie rep, I shadowed a Senior Rep for three days following HQ training. This guy was a legend and was in his territory for 20+ years. While he was a bit eccentric, all the doctors loved him. He made it a practice of putting a penny in his right shoe to reinforce his mission to sell our products! He also taught me the importance of trunk management for samples and detail literature. Unfortunately, I learned that he recently passed away. Good guy that made AZ great.

Many good reps at AZ. There was a great rep in Roanoke, VA Her name was Ruba. She rocked!

What does it say about reps who have stayed reps for 20+ years at AZ. Are they are really that good, maybe they've been protected by another long timer DM or simply just laid low and played the game? It seems like there is still alot of this going on at AZ, especially in the southeast where the good ole boy/girl network is strong.

I knew this fine sales representative as well. John and I met at the AZ launch meeting in 1999! Kind gentleman and he definitely made AZ the greatest!

I am graduating college tomorrow and wondered if AZ will hire someone for a primary care position with no experience? Any advise would be appreciated.
In the past, AZ preferred to hire new graduates in order to train them the right way. AZ was skittish to hire experienced reps who worked at a number of pharma competitors. Management didn't want potential bad habits and work ethics infiltrate our culture. Today, I have no clue as to the hiring practices. Try connecting to a current rep in your preferred region. Good Luck!

You probably have a good chance since that is what AZ wants managers to hire. Guess there’s a lack of young people at the organization. Problem is the people they hire don’t come from scientific or business minded backgrounds. All the new hires we had in primary care were liberal studies, fashion design and radio/tv majors. Not to say they can’t learn but most of them end up quitting within 6 months because they don’t like the job or cannot grasp the disease state and studies etc.

But I guess that’s the pool of candidates out there because one just quit and they replaced
her with another broadcasting major college graduate.

The DM...will want to see if you can handle the pressure...

Like this doc don't use our drug...what do you do?

Always give them a pt. type what are drug would be good for and, check in with the doc, does make sense doc? Don't ever beat the doc up, always find a good place where he/she can use our drug...

As a DSM, the answer is absolutely. Unwritten "suggestion" is to hire more newbies. Why? Lower cost, no bad habits and creating more generational diversity. Just be very positive, high energy with a big focus on self development. Have examples. Learning curve is steep so be open to lots of feedback and do not take things personally. 18 months later you will be amazed how far you have come. Oh and if hired, stay away from the negative Nellies.

AZ, I started this link of how good AZ was to me and my family. I my name Gregory Woodworth.
People called me Woody. The pay was good, and the mgrs. and regional mgrs. were great.
Bill Lyons hired me in 2000. It was joy to get up and sell...Atacand, Toprol-XL, Crestor, and Symbicort.
I sing your praises, all the time.

Sincerely,
Woody

I agree with Woody as a 25 year AZ vet, those were the days! AZ was always good to me as well and our doctors were the best. Here's to the #1 Pharma company in all the land and cheers to an even better 2023. To all you newer AZ'ers, keep that business humming, those of us retirees from the golden years depend on you during our retirement.

Retired AZ DM here and I loved building our company! Great times and great people! For retirees living in the Phoenix area, we are putting together an after - Madonna concert gathering on July 22. Stay tuned for details and let’s raise a glass to AZ! Current reps are invited as well but there will be a $20 admittance fee got y’all.
