Anesthesia and Emergency Positons

KARL STORZ is a prolific company with a prolific brand. I see many complaints about marketing here; and I view them through a prism of wisdom that many of you are "immediate gratification and entitlement now" type personalities. Does marketing suck? Perhaps. Is the brand still solid since 1945? ABSOLUTELY. The bottom line is this--you Airway Reps are ENTRUSTED and EMPOWERED with the available products. Get out there and sell them and quit making lame excuses. It's totally understandable with Glidescopes 85% "automatic" market share that some cold call fatigue will set in....but wasting time on the DRAMA of a cafepharma thread only proves that your mind is in exactly the wrong place. If you are reading this message as a KARL STORZ airway rep and having emotions--you are 100% completely wasting your time. You would be better served in google searching the competition, learning their strengths and deriving your own talking points about how your products are better than theirs. This thread is sophomoric....go back to HIGH SCHOOL or use FACEBOOK to whine & complain & be dramatic. Karl Storz kicks ass in this industry--it has for 65+ years and will continue to kick ass. If you can't carry the water and seek to blame office people for your failures then you simply just SUCK.

So, based on what YOU just said, WE should be researching the competition, learning their strengths, and deriving talking points about how our products are better. Am I missing something? Isn't that what marketing should be doing? I know, way too much to ask. And trust me, we do the research and more.

...... And here's a little tip, if a person can't cut it in sales, don't hire them in marketing!!!!

As for your "perhaps marketing sucks " comment, why don't you just admit it, step up and fix the problem?

Prism of WISDOM??? Buddy, have you MET our Marketing Team? Also, Marketing SHOULD be available for immediate gratification. They are OFFICE BASED EMPLOYEES. There is NO reason that it should take 3 days for them to get back to us with an answer to a question. Period. You are correct that for 65+ years Storz has been solid and has great products, however the decision to split up specialties with the emerging markets was an obvious gaffe. It's also obvious that you are not a sales rep, nor are you a rep in the emerging markets. I'm guessing Marketing or Management.

Thank you for your rant. Sounds like Mike L or one of the idiotic Region Managers. Do a Wikipedia search about Video Laryngoscope and tell me who shows up as the "first", it isn't Karl storz who was the original, it comes up as our competitor. This simple thing could be corrected by our top notch Marketing Department, but it hasn't. Tell me why??? Because of Germany!!

Agreed. One would think that our fantastic marketing department would have available to the salesforce clinical studies that include comparisions of the CMAC with GS, McGrath, Pentax, etc. What about all the $$$$ we spend supporting the Difficult Airway Classes around the country. Why couldn't we get an article written by one of the Directors giving their opinions on the various Video Laryngoscopes on the market??

Why.....the answer is as simple.....Airway Marketing isn't proactive. They sit with their thumbs up their butts waiting for permission to go to the bathroom from Ms. Storz. I cannot fathom that Charlie, Billy & Mikey cannot convince her that we need marketing- print advertising & internet to move the business in the US. Hey just look at Stryker. They are promoting their new 1488 camera on Cafepharma. I seen it pop up when looking on the Medical Device Boards. ...Stop drinking the KS Koolaid.

Dear Mr. Author or should I say Mike L or Region Manager. We, the Airway team need to vent on these posts because there is no other place we can do it. If we had Region or National Conference calls that included Marketing, Sales Ops, Sales Support, Customer Service & Tech Services even every few months, maybe some of our concerns would be heard and we, the salesforce could hear some answers. Partial communication is better than none at all.

We are the on the frontlines here for KARL STORZ and it is very frustrating on many levels. Why now are you listening ....because we are venting on CP and the truth hurts. An intervention should have taken place sooner!

So it seems that the most common theme to current thread is that Marketing sucks... Well guess what! Marketing has never won me a deal nor have they lost me a deal... I find my own deals, I find out the hospitals budgeted for GS ask them to consider an alternative and trail the damn C-Mac... Whoa Thanks Marketing..!!!

While your sitting at Starbucks drinking your latte' and posting messages on CP blaming others why you didnt hit your number again this month I just finished another case and cleaned my own blade... oh and hit up the cute RT chick waiting on my next case... Moral to the story is most of you want someone else to do it for you or blame them for why you cant get it done.. So what if it folds? I was looking for a job when I found this one.. The difference is I grind, you dont. I can talk strangers and they like me, your own parents hate you. It's time to get off the tit and make your own way..

You know it really is true...birds of a feather flock together... All the explanation I need for why this is my First and Last time to be here..

So with that being said excuse me while I plan next week and fire off these quotes I dug up over the last couple weeks... Thanks again Marketing!!!

Wow, you can talk to strangers and they like you? Amazing selling skills you must have. The reps aren't asking Marketing to close deals for them, you naive newb. They are asking for product support when faced with spec questions or technical details when asked by customers. Not everyone is as "seasoned" as you. With all of this experience you have, why the hell are you an AMAR? Haha. I mean, you clean your own blade! You waste your time with Respiratory Therapy "chicks". Oh, and you're FIRING off quotes!!! Laughing at you man... you sound like a babbling child and would make a great regional manager. And who said that the reps aren't making their numbers? BTW, like your name "1TuffCreamPuff" LMAO

Hey 1TuffCream Puff.....Your an Idiot. RT isn't going to bring you that much business and most of the time, they aren't well liked in the hospital. Why not spend more time in the OR space and maybe the Anesthesia Techs will clean your blades for you.

Marketing is here to support the sales force. Currently we have none in Airway unlike our competitors who have print/internet advertising, Clinical Studies including competition comparisions and of course a pipeline.

Wake up, get your nose out of ML butt crack and stop drinking the KS Koolaid.

Lot of posting going on here about the Airway Group. Hear from some of my colleagues that Upper management is aware of everything being written. In my opinion, who cares!! Maybe Mike L will realize what we are dealing with in the field everyday and take some actions:

1- Push Germany for more advertising $$$
2- Get his so called marketing team moving & doing something for once.
3- Have a divisional conference call with updates and additonal time for open questions.

All of us posting on CP has awaken the management team, maybe, just maybe they will finally do something to get this divison moving in the right direction.

The problem is not marketing it's the lack of products we have to continue selling. Like others have said you might get extremely lucky and have a 600k year then what? Can anyone tell me if anyone in Airway hit $1m in 2011? The next year your going back to the same customers and trade out the same product with more reusable stuff. Airway, Head/Neck, and Neuro should have never been split.

Get real---this business model is wrong.

I see the quality of the KS Salesforce.....Posting on CP at 11:22am & 1:11pm. I am interested in any sales position at your company, so do me a favor & quit!

Posting on CP takes about as long as it takes to send a text message, doesn't take an hour out of sales time like you may think. If you want to get a position with KS, apply... There are plenty of open spots and MANY more opening up as reps are finding more lucrative opportunities elsewhere. Be sure to check out Airway!! You'll make $120-$150k+ FIRST YEAR!!! Then you skyrocket way past that! Hahaha

If you actually believe that Airway territories are going to reach a million dollars!!! I have a nice amount of sand at the beach that I can sell you?? So after your superstar year and saturating the market with CMAC's you still think you can sustain that growth with no new products. And none of your products are reimbursable or bring in any revenue to the hospitals and lasts for decades. How can any person of normal intelligence not see that management is blowing smoke up your inexperienced ass to keep VP jobs for themselves. Wake up and realize this division cannot be sustained. Airway is going to be rolled into another segment. It can't have some people with 250K qoutas and costing the company 120K for salary, training, and benefits. It was a dog from the start and expected huge growth to support keeping it around until it becomes profitable. It's not even close and is a huge red flag at corporate. The good reps will be asked to roll into new positions and the small areas and lesser reps will be let go.
I'm just trying to be helpful to the people that are new and need to realize they need a backup plan. As for the moron who keeps regurgitating shit he learned in training, good luck with your attitude and maybe you can be an FST after the layoffs.

YTD there are only two territories that may reach 1,000,000 in sales. The gal in Ohio & the guy(H&N selling Airway) are probabaly gonna hit it. With that said 2 Reps / 50 Territories= 0.04%.....Not a great end of year result.

Well hold on now. If you had not written this last post then you could have been spending that time closing a million dollar laryngoscope deal and finishing #1 in the division, at the same time funneling in 3 more million dollar deals for Q1 2013.

LOL! That's freaking hysterical. I love how management or marketing try to act like "reps" on here, posting success stories and how nothing is wrong and business "in their territory" is great. How about it, 1TuffCreamPuffer? If you're such an advocate for working hard and doing the right thing, why not say who you really are?? We are anonymous because we need to keep out jobs until something else comes around. Why do YOU need to hide? ... Must be mgmnt

Agreed, it must be either Mike L or one of the 4 "Idiot" Horsemen (Region Mangers). One of 4 heavy KS Koolaid drinking RMs who are just trying to keep their positions/paychecks while protecting their boss.

Come on all you Airway Boys & Girls....Only a few more rants to break 100 posts!!!

This stuff is just too funny....sadly true......but you have to laugh to keep strong in the field!

As much as I would LIKE to laugh, I left my last job (where I sat at about $130k/yr) with the promise of $150k+ first year. My daughter just started private school. This was the goal for both me and my wife. We need to pull her from her school and think about Public now. I've been watching these posts, but this is my first post on here I've made. I was better off where I was at $130k. Making $100 is barely do-able. I feel so betrayed and I have absolutely NO LOYALTY to my manager and VP. I was told this was going to be a $200k yr 2 job. Sadly, I actually MAKING my numbers and this is where I am at. My daughter means everything. My wife is now looking to pick up another job. Nothing funny here.

Dude, I am right their with you. I was sold the same BS as you were and the majority of the Airway Division is in the same sinking boat. When I joined this organization, I thought KARL STORZ = Integrity especially going through the Foundations Orientation, but as the months have passed, I have come to realize that all the Core Values that was presented to me
(Pride, Passion & Committment) is the biggest fairy tale ever told.

I think all levels of management and especially our top notched marketing department needs to review the Karl Storz Core Values listed in the Foundations Workshop PArticipant Workbook......Maybe they will remember what the mission is and realize how they are failing their #1 asset.........THE SALESFORCE
