Anesthesia and Emergency Positons

Anesthesia is doing fine as an emerging market, just need better marketing and support from the executive team.

Speak for yourself. I AM an Anesth rep. You sound like my Regional Mgr with that statement. If you are an RM, please just stop. Just stop. Mrs Storz will never give us the tools to move ahead of the game ever. We've all come to expect this now.

There are many Anesthesia Reps who read these posts and also the writing on the wall. This division is in the red and will stay there until marketing gets off their butts and provide the tools needed for this emerging market to succeed - Advertising, Samples, etc

Reps have left our little family and more are to follow suit..............

I think most of us feel this way. We had some great Reps leave us over the last year and there is definitely reasoning behind that. I've come to see that this position has been more of a launching point for something better. I'd like to be a full-line, but those positions never open up. Agreed that Marketing doesn't MARKET, nor do we EVER have more than 2 samples of a new product available across about 50 reps at any given time. Also agreed, of course, that we are in the red. We've been in the red since year 1 from what I hear (I'm 2nd wave). All I can say is that we keep selling this same old stuff as long as we can talk them out of buying GS.

I arrived later in the game with the Airway group, but I'm curious as to why most of the 1st wave of reps left. What are there like 3 left out of the original 20-something? I'm having a hard time with recruiters right now, because they all seem to say, "Oh... So you're part of that Airway group". They tell me I'm not qualified for other positions and that I need to move up in the company before being a "real" candidate for other positions. How did the other Anesthesia Reps move to better positions with an Airway background? I know that some of them are making around $200k now at other companies. Which recruiters are the ones to talk to?

You sound like a tool. If you can not convey to a recruiter that this is the toughest job at STORZ you don't deserve to interview for a big $ position. If you can sell cmacs you can sell anything . Good luck job hopping !!!!

Actually, it's all about convincing the recruiter to convince their CLIENT that Storz Airway is NOT an entry-level job... which I think we all (and a lot of recruiters) know it is. But, there is also a lot of recruiters don't know that and most companies don't know that (unless they deal in the Airway arena). Just apply for positions in different specialties.

the airway positions are a joke and when you tell a recruiter that you are making a 50 k base and maybe 20K in commission and have a qouta under 500K they are going to know its a entry level job and try not to laugh. like another poster said it's all about you spinning it and selling yourself. The reason they hire unexperienced people is so they can lie to them knowing that these people don't have enough experience to leave for a new job anywhere else. Good luck to everyone who is smart enough to get the hell out of this pathetic job.

No one is going to hand you a big stack of money. You have to work for it.

Maybe some of you don't realize how good we have it. There is minimal reporting, tons of freedom, large territories with plenty of potential, great benefits, good customer support, minimal corporate BS...etc.

Sure we might have entry level jobs, but a liitle imagination and great selling skills, you can sell yourself to the recruiter & the hiring manager.

I don't know about the 1st wave, all I know is that I was promised to make $120K - $150k my first year and even though I am over my quota ever month, I am not gonna make close to that. I was told 12% on all sales, not happy with the 5% with repairs. It's a lot of BS!!

I am ready to leave, not because of our shitty marketing department or # of available samples, I am tired of the enviroment among the various markets at KS. There is no Teamwork here. The Full Line reps didnt or couldn't sell airway and the company decided to create a new division. Now that we are here, these "colleagues" shun us and will not work as mentors for us. They just think of us as KS Intruders and want us to just go away so that they can get all the desserts.

Agreed, these " Full Line (Core) Account Managers think their crap doesn't stink, but it does. Many of us in the Airway Division are going into competitive accounts where no other KS Sales Person ever visited. Can someone tell me why? The answer is simple= The Airway Sales Team is hungry and isn't afraid to hear the word no while the lovely Core Reps only work in their comfort zone and Anesthesia isn't one of those zones.

Ditto...My Core Rep thinks he is the best of the best. He won't work with me at all. His loss, I will succeed without him and when I am ask by my Region Manager & other senior management on how I got to be successful, I will tell them that due to the lack of teamwork,
I went on a indiviual mission to succeed!

Your Core rep would only be able to assist mildly. Core reps don't know the Anesthesia docs, because they never sold that stuff. They never wasted their time on Bonfils and crap that the docs don't care about. Just put in your 2-3 years as a rep and get a better gig. I don't think Airway is where you want to be as a career, right?

So True and I don't think any airway territory is going to produce 1 million in sales. We were all sold a pipe dream by our leadership during our initial interviews.

$1million??? No way is any territory going to do that. The problem is that after a sell a facility a C-MAC, that's pretty much the last time I see them. Let's be realistic here... We have a good product, but we don't have constant income from these facilities after the sale. GS may be a one trick pony, but they've got recurring income coming in every month all year long from boxes of disposable blades. THAT is what I want. I don't care if it's "not as durable as Stainless Steel". Who gives a crap? The docs sure don't and neither do I. The only possible way any territory will be a million dollar territory (maybe) is if we start selling pricey disposables along with our capital stuff.

First of all, every recruiter is gonna BS the earning potential for first year. 2nd of all if you are hitting your quota every month with NEW business then you should be making $100K+. Repair dollars are like a bonus you idiot. If you depend on repair dollars every month then you need to open your eyes, get off your lazy ass and go sell something. All of you so called "current" airway reps are a bunch of complainers who do not realize how good we have it and the opportunity to grow within Karl Storz, let alone the new products that are coming out. There are a ton of jobs out there that are much worse. Stick it out

Hmmmm...Lets break this down:
#1 Good Product (+)
#2 Good Company Reputation(+)
#3 No Disposables(-)
#4 Over Priced Products(-)
#5 No Marketing(-)
#6 No Advertising(-)
#7 No Samples(-)
#8 Poor Management (-)
#9 Poor Pipeline

Lot more negatives then positives......The Opportunity you mention above doesnt seem so good on paper. Also lets not forget the great teamwork from our Core Reps too.

Stop beating around the bush. Call an apple - an apple. ML is a great salesman. He sold the idea of this division to management, became the Big Cheese, however his marketing team is failing miserably. He has gotten F's on his past two report cards and who knows what the shake-up will be if the division falls short of its goal come December 31, 2012

Mr. Author, you are incorrect. Core Reps did sell CMACs recently and failed. That is why a new wave of airway representatives were hired.
