60 Minutes

The Power should rest with the PATIENT not the greedy corporation!! The criminal pricing of life-saving medicines belongs with the PATIENT!! Our government has to fix our seriously corrupt and broken health care system in the US!! We need to adopt the Swedish health model so PATIENTS come FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is greedy government that has already corrupted and broken the health care system. Look no further than medicare, medicaid and The V.A. Seriously, what corporation is more greedy than government. You will pay more in taxes in your lifetime than you do for anything else in your life. If you want to know how greedy government is, try skip paying your taxes one year and see what happens.

Yeah you better leave the country. Get your gas mask & move to shanghai where you corporatists can exploit child labor & create a permanent toxic cloud in the city

And over half of what you pay to the govt goes to pay for other's benefits like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, which, you should get back when you need it.

And since the US healthcare system is inefficient unlike say, Switzerland, we waste about half of that 50%.

NOTHING is more inefficient than government. You seriously think government involvement is going to improve efficiencies? You are a bigger moron than I ever could have imagined. And comparing us to the miniature, homogenous, healthy lifestyle, most strict immigrant laws in the world, Switzerland is HARDLY A FAIR comparison of healthcare systems. Moron.

How about all of the EU? It is as diverse as the US and spends half as much. There are no facts that back up your nonsense.

Ok... first things first. Show me a study comparing the EU to the US. Then, I will address your childish notion that the EU is as diverse as the US and deals with the same immigration issues as The US. Or, that they deal with the same self-inflicted diseases as the US.

"U.S. versus European healthcare costs: the data

The most obvious conclusion from this analysis is that a single-payer health system can contain costs and streamline clinical management protocols to avoid the unnecessary testing and procedures of private fee-for-service systems like the U.S. system, as well as incentivizing prevention. Nearly every other country in the analysis had a 100% government-based health insurance system, except for Germany at 89.5% (the U.S. has just 27.4% of the population covered through public-sector programs)."

This is all widely known. The fact that you don't is proof that you are clueless.

Yes.... We all know they spend less on healthcare, but EVERYTHING you present misattributes that difference in cost to their healthcare system vs. ours.
Now pay attention.... Find a study that accounts for all the differences within the US compared to Europe. Put simply, an apples to apples comparison. Of course, in America, when you treat a much sicker population, a much more diverse population, treatment will cost more. That fact has NOTHING to do with how good a particular healthcare system is. UNDERSTAND?

I know you libs have to oversimplify everything, because you can't deal with the complexities of reality. But healthcare costs are not that easy. You must account for everything.

It is like taking an obese, couch-potatoe in America and compare him with a marathon runner in Germany. The American will have much higher healthcare costs. Does that mean that Germany's healthcare system is superior? Of course not.... it says nothing about either healthcare system. Wise up!

Here is a direct quote from your own link:
As we discussed earlier, social welfare spending, income inequality and accessibility of high-risk consumer products (e.g., tobacco, alcohol, poor food quality) all have a tremendous impact on disease rates beyond the control of the healthcare system—affecting the burden on that system. This is evidenced by the high U.S. obesity rate that translates into a high number of patients with chronic cardiovascular disease and diabetes that may increase spending as avoided deaths increase disease prevalence (that is, because people are chronically ill, and not dying, there is higher cost, but that cost may be a “good thing” in that it keeps people alive; we don’t want a low prevalence of disease simply by allowing everyone who gets ill to die).

Gee you've convinced us all we should spend 50x more for Gleevec than the Indians.
Moron

No... What we should do, is let you name the price. So based on everything you know about Gleevec and the business model that will allow Novartis to thrive and be a viable company, which produces future innovation... What should Gleevec be priced at? Name it.

AFFORDABLE HEALTH is a RIGHT!! Corporate Greed is a CRIME!!

Where does the "Right" for "Affordable Health" come from? I have never heard of this right before. I have heard of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I have heard of The Bill of Rights. But I must admit, I have never heard of the right to affordable health. And besides, what constitutes "affordable"? What is affordable to one person, might not be affordable to another. When someone can't or won't pay for something and you require someone else, by law, to give them something for nothing, really that is a form of slavery. Lastly, what constitutes greed? Are you greedy? How do you outlaw greed? If greed is a crime, NOBODY is more guilty than government. Government confiscates more money from people than any corporation could ever dream of.

Too bad the Constitution didn't outlaw stupidity and arrogance.
