Vaccine expansion ?

Remember Bill Darnells team was last in the nation with Gardasil and Rota. Being nice and havine knowledge do not make you a competitive sales lead.

Most of success has to do with objective setting. Set it high and you fail, set it low and you are All-Star. One I know was great with a vaccine product one year and then very poor showing the next year. The reason was not that individual but the objective. Same territory, same customers, different objective based on unattainable increase in sales. Gardasil did well first two years due to publicity but now sucks due to Ponzi-like objective setting. All the low hanging fruit has been vaccinated, and 19-26 group is declining it.

Oh, C'mon...no excuses Merckie!

hey folks. i did both and can advise the pill pusher reps that you'll be out of your element with vaccines , vaccines has a sales cycle , somewhat similar to capital equipment, and a solid "I want this many" kind of order. Pills is just promotion..like tv commerical creating awareness on a continual basis. sure, you can get a dr to agree that your pill is just as good or better...but the other me-too pills will be used also. Honestly, do you personally ever take immeidate action after seeing a TV commercial...nah, you just make a mental note of it, that's all. vaccines is direct sales, you either get the order at some point, or you don't. pills, all you're doing day-in day out is maintaining the awareness of the brand name in the drs thought process. Don King and donald trump dont sell a product..they sell their name..their image..their brand. pill pushers are similar, promoting a brand over and over. vaccines is science and ability to actually win not just a commitment , but the absolute trust of your customer on not just the clinical side of the matter, but the business side as well.

its not personal. it's just business.

Brilliant coming from a Merckie who company allowed people to die on Vioxx! Keep looking at yourself in that mirror everyday. Give me a fucking break will you people. Selling vaccines is not fucking rocket science. You aren't all that!

What is with the Vioxx rant?? Many of us at Merck have never had anything to do with Vioxx, so stop the BS. Sounds like a good liberal that goes to personal attack when 'thinking' is too hard on your brain.

Come back when you can make rational thoughts.

We are trying to tell you the business of vaccines is different, not rocket science. Don't see any rocket science comments on the posts except from pill pushers.

What you don't realize is that most vaccine people have done BOTH. I have launched several pills & vaccines(both succesfully). Those of you arguing you could sell vaccines but have only done pills sound foolish. You don't know what you are talking about!!

Yeah well I'm going to sabotage the PED offices in my area, ones that I used to call on, just for the hell of it, really!

Seriously...WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???? Don't you work for Novartis??? It's in your best interest for NVD to succeed BECAUSE IT'S PART OF THE COMPANY YOU WORK FOR....and yes, this very well could mean that YOU ARE NOT THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB. Based on your attitude, I certainly wouldn't want someone like you on my team!

You sound like a smart UAW worker. They used to mess up the cars they were building to show the company who's boss. Then people quit buying their shitty brand of car. Then you are out of a job still mad at the company!

Dude, the vaccine division will succeed or fail on its products and people without you. Just because I am trying to feed my kids with another job, no reason to make yourself look like such an ass. That is all you are accomplishing. There are talented sales people in all fields in pharma (CV, PED, RHEUM, ORTHO, VACCINE etc.). Don't take it so personal.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the pill pushing job you are overpaid for already! Why are you here whining when it doesn't effect you??

Actually I sell an injectable for Novartis and not a pill. Still going to sabotage your ped offices because Novartis deserves it. So fuck off.

Actually, I will take it personally and here's why. I sold pills (since you like to refer to it like that) for fours years when I broke into the industry. Then I sold vaccines for another four years at Glaxo. Prior to coming to Novartis I was in hospital sales selling an injectable and negotiating contracts and dealing with wholesalers, distributors and national GPO's. I did that for a couple of years before I was laid off due to company restructuring. I have now been at Novartis for three years and have sold an injectable for the last year and a half. Am I qualified for these vaccines sales positions, hell yes I am. Just as much as some outsider. But I am been informed that I will not be given an opportunity to at least interview for the position. These positions have been posted externally for almost four weeks now and still they are not posted on Novartis' intranet job board. I GAURANTEE ANY OUTSIDE REP FROM GLAXO, MERCK OR SANOFI-PASTEUR IS NOT MORE QUALIFIED THAN I AM! So please don't tell me that your special and I am not. So, are some of us qualified reps that are not being allowed to even interview taking this personally, you bet your ass we are, especially me. And don't tell me that if this scenario was reversed and you were in our very qualified shoes and wouldn't be allowed to interview, that you wouldn't be taking this personally as well!

Question? Not at Novartis now but would this be a lateral move for you. If this is entry level like all TM positions at Novartis than why go for the position? I can understand if you prefer selling vaccines but how does the company benefit from moving TM's from one job to another? Not trying to be jerk, just want to understand. Now if it is a promoted position I can understand your anger.

I happen to agree with your point and for one have never said that internal candidates should not be allowed to post. Matter of fact I have not seen that posted here by ANYONE.
The debate which you have missed obviuosly is that vaccine experience should trump internal vaccine in most cases. I would suggest a blend for any team with a majority of vaccine experience.
But with vaccine ( and maybe injectables but I don't know that market so I won't speak to it) as an internal candidate you SHOULD have first priority. But it doesn't sound like there are enough of you to fill the slots or have pediatric relationships.

Also, don't look like a fool and make GUARANTEES that you are more qualified than ANYONE posting. I will give you a few of my qualification so as not to give too much away. I have negotiated contracts of up to $20 million annualy in vaccine sales with large IHS such as Cleveland CLinic, MAyo, LDS etc. I have been a board member on a state immunization coalition when we were allowed before policy changes at Sanofi. I have worked in state health and have a MPH degree. Much more but I think you get the point. NO reason to get obnoxious, why don't you just say eperienced vaccine internal candidates should get a preffered shot at openings in the vaccine expansion.

No one on here has disagreed with that opinion!

You are right to be dissed--- a 12 year experienced vaccine rep here. These posts are bogus. Anyone can quickly learn all the semantics of contracts, wholesalers and office politics quickly if given the opportunity.

Vaccines open the door for conversation but the bottom line is selling-- how hard is it to learn to talk to the whole office-- my God -- non-Docs are so much easier to negotiate with than those egocentric assholes anyway. They make the final decisions or their owned management groups do but they always go back to the nurses/office manger for thier educated input and agree with what they decide.

I love working in this side of the industry and hope you get a chance to get back out of the primary care world but rest assured--- anyone can do this job with a quick e-training on how the vaccine business works.

F/O all you GSK, SA and Merckies trying to put such a hard spin on this industry.

Good luck and you deserve a chance.
