Union East Coast

Now imagine how you feel and add the pressure of having people's lives in your hands. That's how phlebotomy feels.

Not sure i understand that comment. You went to school for phlebotomy didn't you? It's like your doing double masectomy surgeries and you have people's lives in your hand nor are you a nurse. Drawing blood is not life or death. I fully support phlebotomists but you dont have people's lives in your hand.

Wow. This is why you're in sales and not phlebotomy. If the phlebotomist doesn't do their job correctly, are you following me buddy, they could easily inadvertently draw a patient that is not that patient and give the ordering physician erroneous test results. Which could lead to giving a patient incorrect medication, medical care, and/or medical procedures... Leading up to death. So, yeah, we aren't nurses or rocket scientists, or as fancy as a labcorp sales rep, but our job is extremely vital to a patients healthcare and it's maintenance. We all can't be as fortunate as you, you know, trying to sell shit and listen to doctors complain about long wait times.

And would you like to know how things like drawing the wrong patient happens? Being overworked and understaffed. Please do not try to belittle the responsibilities of a phlebotomist without knowing what you are even talking about. I just hope that situation never happens to you or any of your loved ones, but I will tell you this for being in this field for over a decade, it happens, and it doesn't always get caught by the lab.

if you go to McDonalds and order a cheeseburger does that employee get a pat on the back for putting cheese on the burger? no!!! it's their job just like being able to read and drawing for the correct test. geez, give me a break with this nonsense. and one other point, medical directors at labcorp are on the hook for a test result given to the doctor, not the phlebotomist. you might get reprimanded or fired but their are plenty of checks and balances at the lab so that doesn't happen. worst case, the patient gets redrawn.

Did you just compare a patients healthcare to a McDonald's cheeseburger?

I've actually witnessed people processing specimens through touch and put the wrong persons specimen in a vial that was labeled for another patient. How is the lab catching that? All serum is yellow. There isn't a check and balance for that.

I reported it to the supervisor and she did nothing.

clearly you're not intelligent enough to pick the analogy. It means do your job, that is what we pay you for. Has nothing to do with the cheeseburger, it has to do with you get paid to perform a job. You could have went to school longer and done something different with your life. Nobody forced you to do this, it was your choice. You're not some immigrant being forced to work 18 hour days in a nail salon and aleeping on the floor in the same place you work. Get a grip! You're not getting paid minimum wage either

It makes no sense to try and explain anything to trolls on this site. Back to the topic at hand, GO UNION!!!!!

Labcorp definitly sucks and i hate the place. But you all went to school to be a phlebotomist and chose to work at labcorp and continue to work at labcorp. Why not just leave if it sucks so bad and work somewhere else? Why limit yourselves? Even if a union comes in, your still working for assholes that run the company. It may get a little better but the stink of the place willl still ve lingering daily. Just leave and take your trade somewhere else! The only way the northeast division would change is if bill haas quit or got fired. Culture change is the only way.........

If only BH was the only issue. You still have a handful of these so called leaders that have reached their plateau. You cannot expect these same people not under the reign of BH to change the way they manage. It will just be another asshole in charge and politics as usual.

Why should I leave a company I have devoted myself to because of management? I have developed a rapport with my patients and colleagues. I leave then what? They hire someone else who will feel the same exact way I do? You said yourself you hate labcorp, it sucks, why are you here then?

Amen! You pinheads think a union is going to change your job? Gimme a break. Go to work and shut up

First of all, they are labcorp's patients and not yours. And i do plan on leaving, that is my first goal before end of summer. I am not going to whine to labcorp because nothing will change. This is how they are and what the place is like. So i say screw it and will join an organization with different values and march on. You forget it is an "at will employer" you are not bound to them and they are not bound to you. I would get a different job where you are valued and forget your rapport and colleague business.

A new leader at the top always makes changes when they arrive. If these bad managers exist i am sure they would be the first to go under a new regime. A union will get these same managers to follow rules but it wont make them any better of a manager. You need a new leader at the top to change the entire culture

Agreed.

This company is the Wal-Mart of the lab industry.
Abusing its workers and keeping all of the profits..
I say everyone vote YES for a union, so at least
We can have a voice. Otherwise things will never change.
Many of the responses on this topic are from the
Egotistical, abusive self centered, management
We have been dealing with for our entire careers.
It's time to Stand up for our civil rights. We aren't robots
Or "monkeys". We weren't born with spoons in our mouths. We are the working class, raising families
On a limited income, with little or no potential for growth.
Do yourselves a favor and vote yes. The time for change is NOW !

If i had to guess, union or no union - a major class action lawsuit will be coming out of this or an individual lawsuit will come out of this and will change things. May take a while but something is going to happen in the northeast division.
