Straumann...good or bad to work for?

thats half of us still employed and most ex-Straumann TMs. How many were missing at the NASM this year?

As a former Smann rep, I can tell you that the turnover was HUGE, I was the last from my training class before I quit due to incompetent manager and lack of direction. At last NSM, I only noticed a handful of TM's that make it past 5yrs, and most of them are absolute tools (not all of them, some of them are good people). Not a good sign when most of the new TMs in the room all have the same look :WTF have I got into?

True that!

Before accepting the job, ask your hiring manager how large the training classes typically are. Take that number, divided by the number of reps in NA. That will give you the turnover rate. If it's larger than 30% then you are pretty safe to assume this is job an entry level, so you (and anyone else) can rest assured you will never make a career out of. Take the job, hope like Hell your manager isn't a complete wank. I would be painfully clear with taking notes on the health of the territory. And I would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, keep my resume up to date. It's not a matter of leaving the company, it's when. Be prepared.
Straumann is a high priced implant that is short on innovation and long on ego. If you fit in to the culture, good for you, you likely have no idea you're a complete dick-head. (Don't be too alarmed, many dental reps have this problem. The good ones leave.)
When you go to Andover, note the American flag on their timeline wall. If you are a true American you will realize it is displayed vertically backwards (stars on the right). When I asked if they knew this was the case, the training manager commented that the company was Swiss, and they wouldn't care. Personally, his response bothered me at a core level. If a company can't even bother to display a flag properly, out of respect, how many other things do they disregard?
Would I recommend working here? No. (Shocker.) if you have the wherewithal to investigate a potential employer before signing on the dotted line, you are too much of an independent thinker for this cult. Go work with someone else. The pay here is not that good, the training even worse. And the product, expensive smoke and mirrors.

Exact description of Biomet 3i minus the Swiss owned references. Yes..most implant/any device reps are d-heads. It is what most company's want since no one is concerned about turnover. That's an old issue. Selfish, drug using, strip club patron-used car salesman-like egomaniacs who bring in the most money. Professionalism and class are less desired traits.

Is this what you tell your shared 3i accounts as you are displaying that peri-implant brush...LOL...D!#k for brains.

"Does Straumman hire anyone with no implant experience? if so, is there a good training program lined up for new reps?"

Are you developing a whole - company wide metaphor ?

No, I have Orthodontic sales experience selling brackets and wires to Orthodontists and Dentists. I was just wondering how I can get into Implant sales. It seems like implant companies look for dental reps with prior implant experience.

I think it is short-sighted that so many implant companies want or require prior experience. They feel that you can utilize your existing relationships to flip business but the reality is that doesn't work for 95+% of your accounts. They don't buy because of you. It is because they are comfortable with your system and changing is a giant pain in the ass. Too many reps go from company to company and you are left with not much movement in each territory.

I look for solid sales success in any b2b sales environment and prior dental sales, in any capacity.

"I was just wondering how I can get into Implant sales."

WHY would you want to do that ? You sound like a grown up - you NOW how, fer chrissake.

There is no longer any real $ to be had, and the pay is getting worse and the pressure to hit inflated, imginary and corrupt sales #s is growing by-the-day.

The grass is always greener until you have to cross the fence and chop the shit down.

Stay in your niche. You'll thank us if you do.

I'm almost 40, started out the gate later than most people, been selling orthodontics for a tad over 4 years now. I worked at enterprise and a copier company before that. I noticed implant sales positions base salary starts out at 70-80k where as orthodontics starts out at 50 to 60k depending on what company. I assumed there was more money to be had in implants plus it seemed like a product that wasn't going away with the increase in our geriatric population. Baby boomers era is over, no more 5-6 kids to a family. I thought older folks are moving away from using dentures and going with implants. You guys are making me think twice about pursuing implant sales :)

trust us! I have been in the business for years. Implant sales is the new "used car sales" job. just take a look at most of Straumann's reps. If they are over 40 years old it means they are stuck. The best reps moved on to biggers positions or away from implants. Some of the current old timmers have several jobs on the side. Stay where you are. No stability here .

Do what you want orthoman. This board isn't a f-ing chat room.

You have been warned.

Stay Away if you know what is good for you.

Can we make it any plainer, Forest Gump ?

Almost 40 and still just a rep? Not good for you. You will bounce around for the next 15 years until you become too old to hire around 55.
