Salient Surgical Technologies

You are an arrogant little prick! It is not hard to grow a teritorry from nothing or one with a doc on the payroll! Soon you too will be a rep with more than 12 months of tenue and believe it or not, you will be on here looking for a new job too!!! Enjoy the money while it lasts and don't get caught doing anything stupid!!!

Great call poster

Why is it that Salient does not disclose who their consultants are or what they have paid to them like other companies do? I thought this was required now.

Would you want all of your reps to see that the only viable teritorries in the country are the ones with docs on the payroll (or ones that have no business so everything is growth)??? Top management is arrogant and full of hubris, not retarded....

I too, thought that disclosure was required now. If you look on the websites of the implant companies for example, they list them and amounts paid. Interesting that Salient makes no mention of them.

This whole string of posts is pretty sad. Every job has issues but it seems that a few of you feel it necessary to bash the company for possible poor performance and changes to a comp plan. In any company, espically medical devices, 2010 will bring many changes as well as reduced revenue. Instead of bitching on this site all day long go out and do something about it. If you hate the job so much then quit. Otherwise, find a way to make a difference.

yes -- get to work and focus on something positive, like having employment vs unemployment. i.e. - being able to keep your house, pay your bills - unlike millions of other americans who would give anything to have a job let alone a salaried job with benefits. it could be worse. appreciate what you have if that is possible. love you all - me

What is really sad is trying to make a difference and getting no where or worse yet, being beat up for trying! This is not an enviornment that likes change even if it might be for the better.

So true. You would like to feel some support for trying to make a difference and like to think that the powers that be felt compelled to do the same.

Wait till Ethicon comes out with a device at less than half the price and bundles it with all of the products they already have sitting on the shelf... If they talk about our 70% margins, we will be seeing a much higher turn rate!!! I love the technology and truly believe it provides better patient outcomes, but I am scared of the unwillingness of management to realize we are overpriced and competition is comming. I have already seen distributors with the Peak plasma knife and the Bovie seer going after our monopolar business...

Its called hanging on by the tips of your fingers. Management seem to think its reassuringly expensive - 'nothing of moderate price can even come close'.

Watch this space

Whoever is posting the 70% margins and is surprised by this figure has no sense of business at all. Your ignorance regarding the medical device and healthcare market place is truly unbelievable??? You need to get a lesson in business. The average in the industry is slightly higher than 76% for med device companies. Let's name a few, Medtronic, Stryker, Ethicon, Covidien, Bard, Depuy.... get the picture. You are a total moron to keep posting this ignorantly. In addition GPM (that's Gross Profit Margin for idiots like you) does not mean that is what the company clears.... you then have to deduct SGA and other costs.

Main point here is - you don't know what your talking about - do a little research. Please!!

The last poster was a little off. The gross profit of the companies listed for 2008 are approximately:

Stryker = 68.3%
JNJ = 72%

St Jude is about 71%

These are for the company as a whole - certainly there are products that have a gross profit much higher than these percentages - to get to an average of 70% some products may even be 90% and above.

Bottled water can be 99% gross profit
Beer and coke are over 97% gross profit.

So, I do agree with the last poster that 70% is not out of line.

At last check, I think most orthopedic implant companies are running at margins of just over 75%. This is not uncommon in the market space we operate in. Having said this, I am still scared about the impact of competition comming to the markert place. How can we fight against a product at less than half our price?
