Nominations for worst manager at Novartis

Is Vince still handing out pills at meetings? He can't manage people but if you need an ambien or antivan.... He's your guy.

Word in Philly is he used to have pool parties with his female reps during business hours... how true is that?? He still a manager? I have a nice rack, is that how they hire over at Novartis?

It's all about Vince. If you can't help him move up the corporate ladder you are useless. I never understood why he is afraid to fire the managers who are his direct reports. Some are not only bad managers but bad people. Vince - This makes you look weak.

A while back Regionals were directing DMs to place reps on PIPs.. they thought it was cute to teach a rep a lesson. This exercise happens a lot w/ newer DMs. If you know you have been a good employee for years, numbers good etc Go see an Attorney. If you know you are done have the Attoney write a letter of notice that you will resign provided NVS pays you X severance. If you have more than 5 years ask for minimum of 100K. In the letter as well state that if NVS fires you that you will bring an unlawful termination suit. Have Attoney send letter to DM, RM, Vp Sales and HR. Watch what happens next....nothing because they will sh$$ their pants. HR and VP will be calling DM/RM and asking WTF is going on and when they can’t explain you will have turned the tables. You will never hear from the DM again. Watch it play out and reap the rewards.....takes 3-4 months..in the mean time just make minimum daily calls and talk to no one..

Sadly this true. The company and leaders earned this by letting incompetent abls make competent reps lives miserable. The old adage, one leaves a manager not a company is happening. Counting down the days
So true. It's abusive and sick.

Are you kidding me.MS lost almost their entire original salesforce because of management. Some teams lost all their reps because of the ABL.It is still happening today

Same in our District. Everyone is interviewing elsewhere, mostly because of ABL's poor leadership and personality. Not worth the stress or frustration.

ABL, take the position for what it is...entry level basic management. Most, 90% of these guys will never make a career out of it or get promoted they will get laid off first. Problem is, they think they smarter than what they are or the position is..entry level. If anyone of them were actually worth their weight the would support and inspire their team instead of creating chaos for themselves creating bad images and attention to their respective teams.

True. The problem is hiring managers from other companies, then nepotism comes into play bringing in their "pets" creating a unfair system of low moral due to preferential treatment.
Hiring within would take care of most of these issues.

That’s a RM issue. Same, one step above entry level. They let it happen so they need to be accountable for the culture that they fester.

Since the early 2000's any job within the pharma sales organization is a joke. Reps do customer service and catering and managers are babysitters.

When I was in my early 30's as a rep making 6 figures I thought I had the best job since my friends were making $60,000. When I hit my mid to late 30's my friends caught up with me from an income standpoint and I realized I was wasting my life being a customer service rep.

When I hit 40 I knew anything to do with pharma was a waste of time and effort. I only stayed because of a side gig and the limited amount of time working for pharma.

Looking back if I needed a pharma job until 65 years old I would have regretted ever starting in pharma. Fortunately pharma income is no longer needed and I can look back at the freedom this part time job gave me. The free time is by far the best part of the job. Answering to the poor managers, who for once in their life have some authority, is by far the worst part. Not caring anymore what anybody thinks about me ... priceless

ABLs choose to be baby sitters.. they don’t have to be but that is their skill level. Other than that you post is spot on.

I came back to Pharma after taking a 6 year break and trying other things. I already had 20 years in w/ another big company and I thot I might just end my career w/ another 5 in Pharma. Nope! Lasted 6 months! I made a mistake, I thot that my past experience, tenure as an experienced rep and age (obvious I’m a little older) would be of value and valued. I was wrong. Do these ABLs actually know that people in the real world don’t talk down to everyone, especially in the work environment? These ABLs, Regionals included are just damn insulting. I went to the recent national sales meeting and it was nothing more than a cool aid fest w/ adults acting like condensending children. It’s how I remembered Pharma years ago when I was gladly laid off after many years of service. I had hopes that it was just me being cynical at the end of my years before that things were not how I remembered. It’s worse!! These people are not Medical Professionals and the Industry Dosent even have any cutting edge drugs to sell and these managers act like fools. Who buys this crap from them? I met Rep after Rep, Manager after manger that was just fool of themselves. Seriously they were just full of themselves, zombies, no sense of reality or what it means to work or how to conduct themselves in the real world work environment. If I was a office manager at an MDs office I would definely have a ridged Pharm Rep policy because why would I want someone w/ no medical experience talking down to my medical staff in the tone NVS suggests. Unbelievable that any adult manager / educated person even endorses this behavior.

I have been contacted numerous times since my retirement to go back. Not for one minute would I consider for Novartis or any other company. Please keep in mind, however, there are numerous reps who base their whole identity on being a pharma rep, and have no concept of what the job couild be. And yes, I became an office manager after my retirement, access but many docs have rigid vetting

I would rather work at Home Depot or Lowe’s vs Pharma. Even Starbucks is better. Going to make less money for sure but at least you are working w/ adults w/ past adult experiences.

You don't thing you work with idiots at Home Depot and Lowes? There are idiots everywhere.

Yes, but not at the level here. At least those idiots are not being over paid like the over rated customer service reps ABLs here. And you expect it there too. There you put a box of nails on the shelf and get a check, job done. Here you put that same effort in and you have some over rated ABL trying to coach you how to do it better 3 different ways and they couldn’t do it themselves. There is a difference. Pharma is The definition of insanity.. Then there is all the back stabbing going on here.. for what? No one is seeing the MDs anyway and everyone is lying about calls. Who needs this childish crap after 20 years not me and that’s why I’m gone. Here you would think since everyone is paid so well people would act their salary however it’s the complete opposite.
