Well, that's true. But who in their right mind would take a job with Merck?

Well, they'd actually be taking a job with InVentiv, as every new "Merck" rep has for many years. This company has become a complete fraud. Even our employees aren't our employees any more. It's unbelievable how far we've fallen.
 






Hey everyone. I managed to record nine calls today! No, I didn't actually have nine product discussions, of course. I had only one. OK, so I didn't actually talk product with the one doc I actually saw. Do you think he wants to hear the same tired old garbage about Januvia for the 1700th time in eight years?

It's a second-rate therapy that does very little to blood sugar levels, has been proven to do absolutely nothing clinically and is of questionable safety. Now that's the message I want to deliver. (It would be refreshing to tell the truth for a change.) When I ultimately get my walking papers, that's exactly what I intend to go back to every one of my docs and tell them.

Hey, on the bright side, I only actually "worked" for about 90 minutes today! I accomplished all kinds of other things, though! Thank you, Mother! Rock on, 15 Guy!

9 calls, huh? Wow, your R&F are outstanding! You can deliver samples with the best of them! Greta pre-call planning! And great teamwork! (There's nothing about pre-call planning or teamwork in your post. That's just the tired old shit I'm programmed to comment on.)

As soon as I'm told to fire your ass, I'll change the tone of my messages on a dime. Then you'll be investigated, we'll interrogate your for a few hours, you'll get pissed off and quit. But, hey, I'll still be employed! I'll get patted on the head and a "that's a good boy" or two.

After 15 years and countless accolades, Merck's managers decided I was to be shown the door. There was no proof of misconduct, no outright accusations of misconduct and absolutely no grounds for termination. They just upped the pressure, jabbed me at every turn, investigated me (which turned up nothing) and simply made me sick of being employed there.

They robbed me of fifteen years that I could have devoted to a decent organization. So yes, Merck is full of thieves. Those thieves rob their employees every day. I applaud the 15's.

To those of you dumb enough to believe the crap this company shovels down your throat, you sicken me as much as management does. Worthless, ignorant, stupid and naive.

I went through almost the same as you after 20+ years with Merck. I chose retirement. Thievery happens at the management and rep levels. I did not believe in the Merck propaganda but it does not mean I have to steal to get even. I was also tired of the younger colleagues hired during the "share of voice" expansion that hardly worked but talked so much at meetings. The entitlement mentality.

The problem in stealing from Merck to get even is you never know when to stop. Soon you will dig around for more reasons why you should keep stealing.

The best option, if possible, is to walk away and start anew and enjoy life.

Consider yourself lucky. The white male is a dwindling employee segment around here. I'll be getting my shove soon enough, I'm betting. Many of my friends have gotten Merck's not-so-royal treatment already.

I am also part of a "protected class" and yes, a manager hungry enough, or fearing for his own job will find a way to throw you out. It will be more work and may take better planning and longer time to "convince" you.

Very true. The job description is so vague and broad that a CTL can find something to screw you.

Very true. My former manager could not find anything to bully me. House paid for. Kids are grown. Pension is multiple times his. No debts. He resorted to the last weapon: mental bullies by dissecting every move and word of mine during field visits. I in return resorted to my last weapon: retirement.

Saw him with a rep at a restaurant the other day. Still hustling. Poor guy.

Great point. Can you imagine having to do this job for 15-10 or even 5 more years?
