Merck contract resigned til 2015 Merry Christmas!!!

I think you are sorely missing the point. Its not about a job that pays for raising kids and shuttling them to and from school...Its about this job, this PTS-Merck contract job. Its part time, flex time or whatever hell else you want to call it...a huge majority of the people who work on this are parents with kids that still need to be given such care. Why the hell else do you think it's part time??? I don't know of any young, single, no kids, fresh-out-of-college people on this contract. Do you?!? And frankly, at the Core Meta launch back in 2010, it was made very clear, that this would be a unique working arrangment in the sense that it enabled an unprecedented balance of work-family life approach. 24 hours a week...3 days...and even in those 3 days, there was room for flexibility. Note: within those 3 working days of each week, it was stated that there was room for flexibility. So now...having said this all, where does your bullshit statements quoted above fit in???

Yes. They don't even want to hire people that are single, no kids, because quess what? They don't want flex time. They couldn't live off our salary. This is a second income job for the vast majority of us. Usually the spouse has a higher paying job. This job was supposed to work around our families, not vice versa. That is how they sold the job to us. Most of us are seasoned reps with a lot of experience. They don't have to pay us car, bennies, vacation, sick time, or holiday pay. If they choose to lay us off we don't get severance. Sounds like a pretty good deal for PTS/Merck. We do the same job as our merck counterparts who have all of the bennies and big salary.

You are kidding righ

Not so much. He says he wants to completely understand my concerns and be able to document them, so he wants to go through a very detailed look at my work record. He told me he is happy to pay me for the admin time. I guess it will be a long meeting. Anything I should do to prepare?

I agree with everything you wrote above, except the "not living off of your salary" part. You are richer than you think, but most of us are. So, what is your point? Your report needs a close. What change do you want?

Ummmm....I think YOU need to check what the IRS says about having a home office and when you are entitled to mileage. I have checked this and you are not correct on this simply because we don't have a home office slated to us. Our home is our starting point ( that is technically our office) since there is not a designated office for us. The laws are very clear on this. Why do you think they reimburse us mileage to and from meetings? If your arguement were true, PSS wouldn't have to reimburse for this. Before YOU go calling people stupid, I would suggest you check your facts so YOU don't look STUPID!

My husband has a true home office. In fact he has p/t filers he gets from a temp office.
We claim office and it has to do with & of square feet of our home and expected energy use. anyway the accountant is good and always gets us a good deduction.
But no mileage deduction to and from first call. Meetings yes. something to do with meeting not being a regular work destination, just like they pay if you fly fro the flight ticket.
On accountants suggestion, my husband stops at post office 4 miles from home, mails business papers, and now his mileage starts to count. I suggest the above poster see a tax consultant because she definitely "sounds" STUPID. Hope she doesn't "look" stupid as well. That would suck. Sounding stupid means lower intellect; looking stupid means ugly. Both equals loser.

That is a very immature thing to say. It doesn't take looks to have class you must not have.

My husband has a home office too. He is in a different industry but see's clients everyday. Our accountant ( that we have been going to for 20 years) says it is fine to deduct mileage from starting point, which is home. We have been doing this for 20 years! The law supports this or we wouldn't do it. And quess what, your point about people going to meetings not having a regular destination, therefore they can deduct mileage? You just made my point. We don't have a regular destination, it's different everyday, which is why we deduct mileage from starting point. Furthermore, when I fly to meetings they let me deduct mileage to the airport. So again before you call people stupid, look in the mirror, check your facts. Not every situation is black and white. I've been in this industry for 30 years and have always deducted mileage this way without a problem. I feel sorry for you that you have to resolve to such hateful language. You must be a miserable and insecure person. Very sad indeed.

maybe we should all keep in mind that employers are not required to pay anyone for any mileage if they don't want to, except in CA, but other than that, employers can dictate any terms they want. we are entitled to nothing, but our employer works hard to be fair.

all these demands about what we are "entitled" to are troubling. fact is, we are not even entitled to a job. add up the rewards for doing the job (good pay, great boss, unique flexibility, opportunity to participate in the industry, etc.) and subtract the cost of doing the job (mean boss, high standards, can't pick my kids up from school when I want to, too much admin, strict compliance rules, etc.) if the result is positive stick around, work hard, elevate concerns constructively and contribute to our success. if negative, you can still do all those things and maybe it will get better. if all else fails, we are all entitled to quit. i won't be doing that any time soon.

I think there are different IRS laws for trailer park folk

This contract is walking a VERY slippery line. It is not going to end well for them. Even good people who are doing their jobs and making numbers are being harrassed. When you get in your car and drive to your storage unit you are on the clock. When you are looking at emails at your house at 9am you are on the clock. This is employment law 101. Stop the nonsense of "we are lucky to have jobs". If you are doing your job and still being harrassed you are not lucky to have a job, especially when they are breaking the law, since we are hourly paid employees.

Listen these stupid people are talking about 1 manager our Manager is not saying this crap at all yes he expects us to work but he is not talking about times of day so just stop this contract is going to continue not end and we are happy and working so just stop the negativity my job is the same as it has been since the start in 2010 and I love it. I am sorry you have a bad Manager but that is not the contract it is your MANAGER call HR!!

It's a slippery slope, not line, and you are on it. So, let's help you out. If you have an issue like this, it is most appropriate to discuss it with your manager, or HR. Once you do, my guess is that you will get your wish and be on a very structured regimen of time accountability to ensure that you are being treated fairly. You may benefit from this structure, but most of us don't want anything to do with it. Not because we feel "lucky" but because we are not willing to give up individual accountability and flexibility as professionals. You go find your ideal job with a little clock in the corner of the break-room you can punch to make sure you get all and only the paid hours you are due. Leave the rest of us alone.

What you do not seem to understand is that it is several managers on this contract with this mentality and this is being pushed down from the top at Publicis. I am very happy to have flexibility and accountability. What you are failing to understand is that these managers are taking that away by looking at employees times and not considering their time going to their storage unit as work. It is wrong, and it is illegal. Especially under an hourly paid contract position. I, like Most on this contract, have MANY years of experience in this position and value my flexibility and being treated like a professional with expected accountability. When they start looking at time stamps and accusing people of not working, when they very clearly are working, that is when they have stopped treating us as professionals. Do you not see that? The point I was making is if they want to go down this road they are setting themselves up for bigger problems. You should be thankful someone has the brains to see when they are being taken advantage of and brings it to the attention of the masses.
Ps I know what the term is slippery slope...don't correct me on semantics you dolt.

Publicis will push the managers to push us to put in more hours. That's how Publicis works. they will push you up to 40 hours per week if you let them!

Just to be clear, you are the brains of this whole thing, right? I am comfortable with that, and one of the thankful masses. So I will follow you, so as not to be taken advantage of. And, of course, we don't want the company to set itself up for bigger problems. So we are really protecting everyone. OK let's do this! where do we start? What's the plan! Step 1 is posting here, we know that, what's next? I will await further instruction, and I promise not to correct you on semantics or facts or anything. Should we put this critical work on our timesheet? I mean, we are very clearly working here, are we not?
