Layoffs due to Coronavirus

I was hoping for a permanent position as well.... but the one thing I keep hearing in some areas is the territory is too big for the JBI reps to manage and there is a need for an addition. At this point, I know the layoffs are coming, but my hope is that they cherry pick some of us to stay.

We are still a buffer to protect the JnJ reps. If they downsize cardiovascular, hospital reps, or primary care, they could move the headcount into our contract job if they choose to preserve the JnJ employees displaced from other divisions. Contracts reps serve a purpose. Temporary and expendable.

This is exactly what they are going to do after they select the vascular sales force. An earlier post stated the contract ends in November.

Jnj has a hiring freeze on most field positions as they are preparing to shift around people as they downsize other divisions. This where some of the more recent JBI people came from. Displaced from other operating companies.

i think we are safe for the months of August through October, but as we have limited access going into the end of the year the industry will adjust and adapt. At first this was thought to be a short term issue that would end by summer, but now its looking like the summer of 2021.

I agree - I would expect some sort of “adjustment” in November. It’s not a secret they are tracking our calls, so I think it is going to be looked at on a territory bases. At minimum, the Syneos force will prob be downsized to those who are actually having success (positive customer engagement number and positive territory sales numbers). Which if I had to guess.... would only be about 1/3 of the contract.... and I think that estimate is being nice. JBI will protect its own people first, it’s just the nature of the game. Unless you were lucky enough to get paired up with a crummy JBI partner and are out performing them. That’s unlikely because I’m sure if that’s the case, the JBI rep is prob faking their calls to keep their activity up. so I still think they would protect their own rep before keeping a Syneos rep. Unless that JBI rep is on the shit list with their manager and RBD.

We are faking our calls too. We are being encouraged to by our manager to show "activity and value" to keep the contract. One big massive ponzi scam. The managers need the reps to enter more calls so they still have reps to manage and don't get downsized. This is why managers will never enforce fake calls by any rep.

Even if your JBI reps sucks they can't selectively fire JBI people and selectively hire Syneos people.

What's JBI?

JBI is Janssen. Many of us are on a jansen contract and paired with a Janssen employee. the main concern when the downsizing begins will be how many JnJ franchises are downsized. For instance, my territory might always need 2 reps, but a displaced JnJ rep from somewhere else could get slotted into my job as they will protect their own. Can;t blame them. I would want them to do the same if I worked for JnJ. We all wanted to try and exit the contract rep lifestyle of temporary employment and get hired on by the manufacturer, but the virus changed this industry overnight. I can enter as many calls as my manager wants, but eventually the house of cards will fall.

I am just logging my fake calls, collectible my check while we are on this stay at home vacation. This company has no loyalty to us, and I have no guilt doing this. All upper management cares about is hitting the metric in veeva to show we are productive workers... I can log just as many calls on my iPad now like i did in the field as the customer interaction is the same. Limited to none...

Dang, my manger is encouraging "increased call activity" as well. Said do "whatever it takes to hit your metric even if you don't". Managers are desperate to keep their jobs too.

I get paid to workout every day, watch some TV, and get on an occasional team call to talk about success stories that are all made up... Access is limited to a zoom lunch once per week that takes 5 minutes of my entire week. 5 -10 minutes of office interaction per week + 1-2 teleconferences per week + admin work = 4 hour work week. covid made this job much better...

A 4 hour work week might be a stretch for me... mainly phone calls to office staff with limited to no impact.
