Layoffs due to Coronavirus

I want to work ,and I want my kids in school. Unfortunately, even if they said I could go back into the field tomorrow it would not have much impact as offices have changed their polices. Not enough work for 2 reps per territory now either. The pharma model of the last 20 years has expired and will change in the near future. Get prepared for the rapid changes approaching.

Unfortunately, I think this may be right. Originally I thought we would be out of the field for 3-4 weeks, and not 6-9 months.

When we go back it will be different. Access will be limited to sample drops or only lunches. The days of waiting in a reception room or nurses station are over. No lunch for the day means no customers seen

It's so interesting reading some of these posts... It's different for everyone depending on where you are in the country. I've been back out in the field since June and have felt pretty busy since July. I have enough to do in the field 4 days a week, but I also have a big territory and a lot of driving. And I have a ton of "busy work", conference calls, trainings, admin etc to easily fill a full day, but that stuff is sprinkled in throughout the week. Lastly, I also feel a lot of pressure! Some of it's internal, but A LOT is external. And then I hear of reps with other companies in my exact same geography that aren't even allowed to be in field yet. It's unreal. I'm happy I can work and earn my paycheck, but I wish I didn't feel so much pressure.

With all that said, access is by no means 100%. It was bad before and is worse now. And I've heard some offices that are open to us now will be shutting us out again soon. But I do believe this contract will continue at least through the end of the year because GSK is extremely competitive, a lot's going on right now, and I think they really believe in the greater share of voice, regardless of the state of things right now.

The lay-off talks on this thread are mostly about the Janssen contract.

Driving around all day for zero access does not seem like a bright future in the Pharma sales industry. We can enter the same amount of fake calls into the iPad at home instead of driving all week for limited access.

Do you have insider knowledge or is this speculation? Also, when will this occur?

How long do you think
Companies are going to pay people to do nothing? I realize to the average sales rep that nothing much is different except their kids are home, but it’s now openly acknowledged that reps are home sitting on the arse doing nothing. Or traveling, making use of the company car. This is a bubble about to pop.
