sales rep here!
Gotta get out the door-have about 300 miles to log today. I have not been with Valeant, nor have any B &L peeps, long enough to form any opinions.
Maybe you were not with B & L?
I can tell you from this side of the company it is just fine. I have no complaints. The attitude is upbeat and hopeful. We are kicking Alcon's ass! My boss is super nice.
If you want to compare to other drug companies, I can tell you most of my friends are very unhappy. I have friends with many different companies-all sales reps, of course. There are no pharma home offices in my state, so I dont really see the other side. Merck, Alcon, Allergan, Thrombogenics, Novo Nordisk, astra zenica, aptallis, astellas! j & J, Merz, Pfizer, Ventive, quintiles. Most Re being harassed by management, pushed to sell more at higher prices versus generic intrusion in a marketplace that requires generic 1st. In the last few months, friends from merck, allergan, alcon, astra zenica, and others were laid off. Some laid off by geography, some by 1st in, 1st out, some by ranking. Some were dismissed with no lead time or warning, others were terrorized by months of unknown. Most were not offered other positions in their companies. Have not found one person who's company downsized executives in the cuts.
Someone posted in this thread that their executive sold $6 million in stock then laid off over 100 people..
Its all about the benjamins. The stock holders. That is how this industry rolls these days.
My last two companies emptied out the home office first, leaving people doing work that several had done before them-while the executives still sit behind a big desk and push papers around pulling in millions off the backs of their underlings.
I considered getting out but could not get one interview anywhere but drug companies. Oh well, i was B & L and now Valeant. Out to work I go! Going to sell some product and earn my paycheck. I'll sock as much away as possible to get me through the next lay off or sell out. The good thing is we do have good products to sell, which our competitors really do not.
Go read the other cafe pharma company boards. You will see that everyone seems to be unhappy with the changes in this industry. We are no longer worth anythi g to any company. There is always someone else they can hire to do your job! So go on strike. There are so many people looking for jobs you will not be missed.
For my friends that are in the unemployment line-prayers!
