Future Bleak

It is painfully obvious that you are on the Valeant management team and trying to justify your completely unethical way of doing business. Every company has layoffs that is true. It can make a company more efficient. However what you are doing is destroying the long term viability of a company by playing financial games and unnecessarily laying off thousands and 50% or greater of a company.

B+L use to be a company with a long term viability that could support jobs and communities for a long time. Now it is just a temporary agency where in the end greater than 75% of those employed there will be gone in a few years.

Real adults look out for those who work for them. The real children are you and your "Lord of the Flies" management team.

While I agree with some of this, I don't agree with the adult/children part. B&L Sold out to a corporation. Unfortunately corporations are not in the business of keeping everyone on board. It may not be what we want, but it is the truth. It does not make them the bad guy.

Re: Main Lobby Sofa Staining!
This posting is stupid. If you don't agree with something that is posted just reply to the post and say why you disagree with it.

If this website was just to put a good face on each company why bother. The website helps people know what is really going on in each company so that they can make reasonable choices about how to manage their careers . Postings that say shut up and don't talk about company's problems are just ridiculous.

If B+L is having problems it is their own fault. The most reasonable course of action for B+L to take is to do a complete review of the company and figure out why the current management is failing to make the company work. If management is the problem replace them. If it is because it is not streamlined then streamline the company. If WP wants to cut and run then find a reasonable price and sell the company to someone that knows how to fix it up.

Reading another thread. Posts from three and four years ago. Same story. Re runs.

Did you know cafepharma has a message board for lab personnel/scientists? Here' a post from the Merck board: guess we are not the only team in trouble.

after cuts, still poor RD management
few good leaders and decision makers. keeping managers who pushed 5S? so many cuts difficult for projects to move foward. too many under achiever managers in WP with little discovery experience

Re: after cuts, still poor RD management
What do you expect from a "pharmaceutical" company that doesn't have scientists in its upper management? Merck has top-down problems. Don't expect reorganization to change the direction of a company that has no direction to begin with. Shareholders have their head buried in the sand, IMO.

Good thread. Key point. Valeant is a totally different animal than all of the other companies that are on this site.

The threads point this out.

The counter discussions are Valeant is giving you a paycheck so don't complain. (coming from new hire that had a poor experience at a former job).

Since this is a website for employees and not for the distribution of company propaganda if you have and argument for why Valeant is a really good place to work with better long term career and job stability than other companies in the pharma world please share.

Ok, let me make the argument for Valeant.

Hmmmm... (Queue crickets chirping)

I DO NOT think Valeant is different than any other pharma company. Several posters have pointed that out. A couple of posts have declared Valeant to be better so far. From my experience, it is no different. All pharma copanies are similar in their methods. I read a lot of company boards. Most seem more disgruntled than this board-except you. Someone even took the time to paste in a similar post from Merck.

I also dont agree from reading the posts in this thread that people are saying dont complain because you are getting a paycheck. In fact, i have not seen that at all. They seem to be saying that it will not help to complain and will only make you more unhappy to stay in a state of unrest and unhappiness. Two completely different things.

You must be the poster who is driving the poo poo against Valeant. Because you could not read all these posts and come up with either of those conclusions. I think you lost your job, so I can sympathize with your unhappiness with the company. You have several posters suggesting you do something to lift your spirits. I might agree, in sorts that your posts about Valeant have been educational, but it changes nothing. We go to work and execute our jobs as always.
Good luck to you in finding anything that you may be satisfied with.

No different than any other pharma company? Very narrow view: they give me a salary and benefits just like other pharma companies.

How many are pharma companies are following the exclusively serial acquisition growth model? How many have totally shunned internal development? How many gain all of their shareholder value through synergies? How many have a sham Canadian HQ to gain a huge tax advantage? How many are so highly leveraged ($17B debt vs $8B sales)? Please provide a list of companies that they're just like.

They are unlike any other pharma company.

What you see as complaining others see as informed discourse.

sales rep here!
Gotta get out the door-have about 300 miles to log today. I have not been with Valeant, nor have any B &L peeps, long enough to form any opinions.

Maybe you were not with B & L?

I can tell you from this side of the company it is just fine. I have no complaints. The attitude is upbeat and hopeful. We are kicking Alcon's ass! My boss is super nice.

If you want to compare to other drug companies, I can tell you most of my friends are very unhappy. I have friends with many different companies-all sales reps, of course. There are no pharma home offices in my state, so I dont really see the other side. Merck, Alcon, Allergan, Thrombogenics, Novo Nordisk, astra zenica, aptallis, astellas! j & J, Merz, Pfizer, Ventive, quintiles. Most Re being harassed by management, pushed to sell more at higher prices versus generic intrusion in a marketplace that requires generic 1st. In the last few months, friends from merck, allergan, alcon, astra zenica, and others were laid off. Some laid off by geography, some by 1st in, 1st out, some by ranking. Some were dismissed with no lead time or warning, others were terrorized by months of unknown. Most were not offered other positions in their companies. Have not found one person who's company downsized executives in the cuts.
Someone posted in this thread that their executive sold $6 million in stock then laid off over 100 people..

Its all about the benjamins. The stock holders. That is how this industry rolls these days.

My last two companies emptied out the home office first, leaving people doing work that several had done before them-while the executives still sit behind a big desk and push papers around pulling in millions off the backs of their underlings.

I considered getting out but could not get one interview anywhere but drug companies. Oh well, i was B & L and now Valeant. Out to work I go! Going to sell some product and earn my paycheck. I'll sock as much away as possible to get me through the next lay off or sell out. The good thing is we do have good products to sell, which our competitors really do not.

Go read the other cafe pharma company boards. You will see that everyone seems to be unhappy with the changes in this industry. We are no longer worth anythi g to any company. There is always someone else they can hire to do your job! So go on strike. There are so many people looking for jobs you will not be missed.

For my friends that are in the unemployment line-prayers!

You are clearly a disgruntled EX-Valeant employee. Doubtful you were laid off in an acquisition, more likely fired for your attitude and argumentative nature. Why are posting on the B & L board instead of the Valeant board? No one paid attention to you there so you jumped over to try to stir your shit here.

Obviously nobody here is really moved by your rants, because you are the only poster who continues on.

I have now been swayed by you to agree with the others on this thread-take some xanax! Your rants are beyond tiresome.

Hallelujah!! I have seen the light! I am quitting my job today! How could I work for such a tyrannical unethical money hungry company. You have saved me from a future of uncertainty, misery and certain disaster.

Thank you.

Nothing but emotional, fluffy responses. No real opinions or supported arguments by the pro-Valeant crew.

Anyone else see the irony in the Xanax reference?

Someone has overdosed on fruit loops!

Hahaha! Yep, I think so. Gone crazy for cocoa puffs!!! What a nut job.

No, just better educated, more informed, more objective, and way more intelligent that many of you. After all, look at your response. Cocoa puffs? Are you in grade school? I forgot the intelligence level has dropped dramatically with the post Valeant departures. Can't have an adult discussion with adolescent minds.

You are certainly a legend in your own mind.

Not all. If you could read you'd see that I used the word "many", not even "most". I was specifically referring to dunces like you.
