I’ll start off by saying that I literally haven’t visited this board since about 2012. That said, not one thing seems to have changed as it seems about 90% of the audience still consists of those who are angry, pessimistic, and selfish. The only reason I decided to come here was to see if anyone had a similar experience as I did this week in Dallas. Admittedly, I haven’t interviewed all that much over the course of my career, but I found this week to be somewhat refreshing - and this coming from a person that it appears is not going to receive an offer. Couple of things I took notice of - many of the managers made a point not only to introduce themselves, but to have conversations with candidates they weren’t even interviewing. I’ve never seen anything like that at other hiring events I’ve attended in the past. It gave me the impression that it’s more about the people at Esperion. I also found the waiting areas to be much more welcoming than the ones I’ve experienced in the past. Also, if you weren’t so damn angry and negative you’d be able to see that making a big deal about being in the top 3 was meant as a compliment to make sure you knew how difficult it was to have made it that far. Was the process perfect? Hell no it wasn’t! But then again what in life is?
Finally, to 90% of the people reading this - perhaps you should ask yourself why you are in this industry? If your answer is simply to make money then you need to re-evaluate your priorities. Here’s a hint - the day you decide to put others ahead of yourself is the day things will begin to change for you. As one of my favorite motivational speakers Wayne Dyer said: “when you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.” Success in this industry comes when your intentions are about making a difference in people’s lives. Once you truly have a purpose and stop making everything about YOU, guess what? The money magically comes in droves as the key to success in this industry is in your intentions, not to simply “sell” something.
