Coronavirus Layoffs

Great insight! Finally, maybe corporate will finally address the “Pink Elephant” in the room and legitimize our access issues. Hopefully, home office will put together a real plan - even if there is a significantly reduction in overall headcount. Inside sales and remote detail might be the right approach moving forward. Two territories for each rep - no time wasted with senseless driving.

When I was there (Home ofc.) what I noticed was a distinct lack of people with any sales experience at all let alone with our products. Poor plans coming from smart people who believe , mistakenly, that they understand the field but want no part of it.

sums up my experience as well - good people, smart people making what they think are helpful decisions but they just don't understand what they are doing because they don't understand today's environment. a few field rides won't fix it.

Not that I want to be unemployed but if I were in charge, I would make a significant reduction in sales forces.

Leadership at J&J has made strong statements that no imminent staffing cuts are happening. Any such cuts would be an bomb on the culture and morale....maybe later in the year if numbers don't turn around. No meaningful rumors of cuts in the home office are floating around at the Dir. Level. Reassignment in the face of new product launches is more likely than mass layoffs.

"strong statements" means you believe them? hmmmmm

People aren't getting the big picture- Big Pharma will have to moderate the field force headcount but there will ALWAYS be a need for a personal interactive sales force, albeit a smaller more specific business model. Before clinic coffee/breakfast, lunch break interaction will continue to be a value to clinics. The DTC ad argument is absurd... those are name recognition ad campaigns. Big Pharma has a ton of money and knows where to apply it for best ROI. DTC will continue, so will a nimble sales force. The big re-org. changes in early 2000s took care of redundant reps in Pods/local teams.

There are a bunch of various syneos contract sales reps, and the reason they were hired instead of Jnj reps is for times like these. Easily displaced for a quick trimming of fat while JnJ can advertise no layoffs.

Denial is an emotional safe place to live in your head. However, obviously you have not worked for this company for a long period of time. Keep drinking the corporate bs. I guarantee nobody is safe!

that makes me feel better briefly,
That great lets start layoff first with the syneos contract people first.

No you are wrong, they do understand and they DONT CARE
The care about themselves first. they don't give a shit about the rep any more than the military gave a shit about the front line soldier in WW! and WW2
you are expendable and will be soon
They care about their cushy jobs and stock options ,

I agree but THEY are as unnecessary as the reps. Helloooooo.

So true the leadership( if you can call it that) is worthless and are leaches that take from the field efforts to reward themselves with excessive perks, corp jets and stock options that they don't deserve !!
they should be the first people fired, the worthless shit
