Biomet Microfixation

i work for BM, the company is growing, do well. You have no idea if our company is being sold. Like you said, you heard, you know nothing. Your livelihood is prolly off my taxes.

I've been with the company for almost two years. This company is not gowing anywhere. We continue to take market share from our competitors and the company continues to put money into R&D. Very profitable company and Big Biomet could not be more pleased with whats going on in Jax. The company has consistently grown the business for the past three years and will continue to. Yes it's unfortunate that 90% of the mfg moved to Warsaw and is being manufactured there. In the past three years of economic turmoil, Biomet is not the only company out there to employ layoffs. Get real. Is this a perfect company, no not even close. Is it a good company, absolutely!! Great sales opportunity for the right person.

Not sure what everyone is talking about. Alot of their distributors are kicking some of these competitors asses out there. California, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and North Carolina i hear have some great distributors and directs.

The next generation of sternalock is coming out and the lies about the current system aren't true. I bet most of you are competitors and tired of getting your asses whooped by their new trauma one system, I enjoy using it.

90% did not go to Warsaw IN. U.S.A. What about the large percentage that went to China

Not so!! BIG changes should be coming in Georgia, The Carolina's and North Florida! Some "things" happened @ Sales Meeting, which will "require" the change. Update sooon.

It's nice to dream dude. There will be no change accept for the increase growth we will experience in those territories. Nice try though....Good luck at OsteoMed, you will need it.

Funny how a NSM can alter someone's judgement. They feed you well, make you drink much, then fill your heads with dreams! Next week you will come back to reality. Trust me.

All the posters on here are narcissistic bastards.
Couldn't agree with you more!
Especially the distributors and their boyz in Georgia, S. Carolina, North FL/ Panhandle, and N. Carolina. Bet they kiss their own photos "goodnight!" "Judgement Day's a comin'"
New Management will most likely play the David Bowie classic "Changes!"

I have an opportunity to work for this company in their engineering department but all these posts are a little scary. Anybody with some real insight on here or just disgruntled employees?

The R&D group is a good one. Shawn and Ryan are great guys. If you use this board to evaluate potential employers, you will never take any jobs in the entire industry. This place is the sewer, populated by disgruntled, semi-literate, sales "professionals" and ex-employees. Take the job, learn the ropes and move on if the culture does not fit especially in this economy.

I imagine you must be straight out of school. The prior post is correct, this place is the sewer as far a info is concerned, but generally, where there's alot of smoke there's at least an ember. The engineering group is young and inexperienced. Don't expect to gain experience relevant to any other industry - most of the 'engineering' is really just controlled trial and error (letter to file type of stuff). They're relatively competent with CAD and plate design, but they don't have the expertice to develop products any deeper than general fixation (most non-plating products were developed in Warsaw - Lactosorb, HTR, the bone putties, etc). If you enjoy redesigning plating trays every few years, this is the place for you.

Shawn and Ryan are good guys, but neither has experience outside of Biomet which limits their scope. Engineering positions at BMF generally translate to sales engineer positions in other industries; ie, there are very few novel concepts developed. Most work involves tweaking a system based off the opinion(s) of a surgeon generating sales for a few key distributors (MA, DW, PT, etc). The industry as a whole is that way, so the sales-influenced aspects of development may not be specific to BMF but the leadership at BMF is so young they really can't draw from experience a better, more patient focused, model.

Most of the nastier comments on this blog are disgruntled types - but these have some merit. The company has never developed employees well (too small) so most folks leave with a bitter taste. Most engineers try to leave for industries outside of CMF because the experience in this market is too limited and the pay weak (~$50-$60k, depending on your position). When you interview, ask about the average employee's tenure - you'll find it low due to high turnover.

It's a weak economy and if you just need a job, it's not terrible. But I would investigate other options first. Shawn and Ryan treat the department as a bit of a frat house - which is cool if your professional demeanor is still 23 years old and in silicon valley - but it will eventually wear on you if you're more mature and used to working with surgeons/hospital staff.

The economy is what worries me. Just don't want to start with a company that just sent nearly all of their manufacturing to Indiana. Doesn't seem real stable thats all.

Working at Biomet Microfixation. Where do I start? I'm a former employee and I could come on here and downgrade the company but I won't but I have to tell you truth at the same time. Management at this company is very weak. A very young crowd, mostly Florida grads, stepping on others to gain position, exec pooping in a shoebox, and always in the backstab mode. The lady that hires, name is Camille, will tell you a lie just to get you in the door then forget all about you once hired. Very ugly Director phyically and professionally. I really liked some of the people there, mostly the ones that worked in the manufacturing part which is all gone now while others just sat at a desk and demanded this and that. I feel for those that left and for those that will have to leave. This company is not finished giving people the pink slip. They are hiring because people left that see the future as grim and why would people leave a good company? Ask many questions, demand all benefits in writing, and if you decide to accept an offer, be ready to kiss ass, be a Florida gator fan, and watch your back the whole time you are working. It is a very stressful position to be in watching your back all the time but you might like that. If you can't find anything else, take the job and give yourself time to look some more. Good luck. As for the R&D management, let the posts before me tell you that. If I haven't anything good to say about someone I will not say anything about them. You'll will have to make your own judgement but based on the earlier post, they are all mostly true.
