Big surprise for sales force in 2011

Who knows the real scoop on this? It is going to be discussed at great length at POA.

And when your manager introduced this great new plan ask them based on 2010 numbers what percentage would have received little or no commission, and what percentage would have received an increase in ic payout, you will be unpleasantly surprised.

I have worked for straight commission and would love it if bi did that, you cannot manipulate straight commission.

Haha, Have you seen how accurate BI's reporting is????

Also read other posts, this Pradaxa debacle is just another example of how BI can fuck up a wet dream. Don't pay the people that drive the business and pay the PC reps that have generated less than 10% of the business through this launch. When the upper management starts to "get it" with BI, we will kill the competition, till then no one is going to kill themselves for pennies.

BINGO..! But you need to have empathy that its so tough for them to sell when they have to pick of little Tiffany and Crystal at child care at 3:00.

Why reward failure to achieve goals? Could you imagine the angst if these Barbies had to work on straight commission?

Why reward failure? Why do we pay marketing, goaling department, and why hasn't Germany fired upper management. What kind of sales department takes away all motivation by severly rationing commissions especially in the launch phase of new medicines?

I have accepted a position with another company in a different field than what I am currently doing here at good ole BI and I can't help but laugh at this... BI will never kill any competition because management doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. BJ saying "we will never copromote again after what we realized from the Pfizer/BI Spiriva incident," is just too funny. Way to go you "leader" you. Can somebody stand up at a meeting and shout in Turrets' style fashion "Lemming!" Hey Uncle Boehringer, shit-can upper level management. They are bleeding you dry.

That is the million dollar question.

It's a big shell game - blame the sales people so you aren't blamed for ineptitude and incompetence and poor leadership.

The real deal... This has already started.

The iPad: Now Poised to Steal Drug Sales Reps’ Jobs
By Jim Edwards | January 20, 2011
Everyone in the pharmaceutical business will be getting a free iPad! OK, that’s a slight exaggeration but not by much: Over the next few weeks, thousands of drug sales reps will receive Apple (AAPL) iPads from their employers loaded with Veeva Systems’ iRep, which displays product presentations and then allows the doctor viewing them to sign the iPad when they’re done. iRep was launched Jan. 11.

AstraZeneca (AZN), Novartis (NVS), Sunovion (formerly Sepracor), ProStrakan, and Millenium are already iRep customers, along with a number of contract sales organizations that provide salesforces to other drug companies. The iPad is spreading into a wide array of sales jobs, including small business, real estate agents, and restaurant sales.

Stick to the script, please

Traditionally, drug pitches are delivered orally by reps who have to rote-learn scripts as they turn flipboards and collect pen-and-paper signatures. Getting the message exactly right was key, because getting it wrong can have major legal consequences. The iPad could make script-learning history. Before sales reps begin rejoicing, however, they may want to consider why management is so keen on the iPad as a selling tool.

Currently, reps detail only one or two priority drugs at a time. iRep allows reps to walk into a doctors’ office with an unlimited number of sales presentations preloaded on the iPad. All a rep has to do is stand there while the doc pokes the iPad and then signs. In theory, an iPad could carry any drug company’s entire portfolio of drug presentations, and instantly email research papers in response to off-label use requests. With an iPad, a rep need not even open her mouth.

Drug reps as bicycle messengers

The rep, in other words, becomes a glorified bicycle messenger who need not have any special expertise in the content they’re delivering. It’s the iPad, not the rep, that becomes the crucial part of the transaction. The medium is the message.

As one rep can deliver a plethora of iRep presentations, drug companies may find they need fewer reps to cover the same amount of ground. That has been the trend among companies recently who have tried a number of innovations to get reduce the number of reps they use, including:

Novo Nordisk (NVO) has replaced some reps’ tasks with a web site.
Pfizer (PFE) has done the same thing.
AstraZenenca (AZN) replaced most of its Nexium sales force with a telemarketing center.
Shionogi & Co. (4507) started hiring “no-experience-necessary” reps at half the going salary rate for reps.
So, reps, enjoy your new iPads while you can. But remember that your employer may one day choose to keep the tablet and lose you.

Go ahead fuck wad and try to launch a new medicine every year for the next eleven years with an iPad. Your arrogance will be your down fall you will realize that we are needed about the time that you are about to loose your own position.

Hey man. I'm not management or making decisions like this, so back off. Don't kill the freaking messenger. If I had to speculate, reps will still have jobs, but it's going to be for half the salary. Listen to BJ talk every now and then about this. Specialty and CSCs will be messaging while the PCRs are driving around with the iPAD and samples (or samples will be drop shipped).

Sweet. I want a new ipad! I wonder if they will wait for ipad2. I wonder if they will let us put itunes on our computer too. Maybe they will upgrade our computers to Mac's. The new macbook air is very cool; light on RAM though.

This is very exciting!

The threat of electronic communication to the physician has been looked at for years. The fact of the matter is that nothing replaces the one-on-one contact with a physician. Access is always going to be an ongoing issue but the reduction of sales forces will most likely hold that access steady once there are not 20 reps trying to get in every office. The industry has been changing for years and that dynamic will continue. I suspect there will still be "reps" contacting offices in 20 years but it may be a different format and certainly with different tools.

The apparently you haven't worked for BI for very long...they manipulate everything with regard to comp. You make what they want you to make. Why do you think that everyone makes about the same???
