The purpose of HR is to protect Abbott. Period. They are not your friends and they are not there to protect "you". They will only be your friend if you report that another employee is doing something that is either illegal or will put the business at risk. I'd strongly advise that you do your homework and have documentation in order before going there.
That said, you do not need to record a conversation. Keep a journal and write everything down with dates, names, quotes, etc. This is admissible documentation should the need arise.
