The purpose of HR is to protect Abbott. Period. They are not your friends and they are not there to protect "you". They will only be your friend if you report that another employee is doing something that is either illegal or will put the business at risk. I'd strongly advise that you do your homework and have documentation in order before going there.

That said, you do not need to record a conversation. Keep a journal and write everything down with dates, names, quotes, etc. This is admissible documentation should the need arise.

No, they wouldn't make you an Op, they'd either move you onto projects while remaining as a tech or "promote" you to be an Engineer. Abbott is the only pharma company I know where nobody wants an engineer's role as it's considered a poison chalice.


In either case, your base pay wouldn't be affected but they may decide to take you off shift to suit "company needs". The 6% raise to become an engineer wouldn't come close to making up for your 14% (at least) shortfall from your regular shift (20%+) being taken from you. Add the fact that you will not be paid for overtime (as you will be on salary) yet expected to work well beyond your average 39 hour week. In quite a few cases, engineers were expected on site all weekend to implement line moves etc. All major hassle for no extra pay.

As for the 11-hour rest rule? Ha! Some staff members feel obliged to clock out at a certain time in the evening before returning to their desks to work a few more hours so they won't break the 11-hour rule when they come back in the following morning, having minimal rest. Management knows they are doing this but turn a blind eye.

Forced attrition is the main goal for Abbott in Clonmel this year when it comes to indirect staff, as a cost-cutting measure. Employees don't count.
Correction: operators don't want engineer jobs in any other pharma in Ireland
They get better paid as they are.
 






sory my englsh not so good may be broken i work abott vascular clonmel many year now one night i stay late overtime i remember somthing i forgets card in meetings room so i go collect and it very dark but i see superviser making crazy like monkey sexy times with other superviser much younger so i run away fast and do not speak so much about it anytime it frighten me will i lose job if report to hr i worry hr not so good people abott very scary place to work i live in constant fear what to do help me

And how are Toyota doing??? Since 2009 Toyota is responsible for countless deaths across the world because of faulty accelerators, it has had countless recalls of millions of faulty cars e.g. floor mat recall,Prius brake glitches,defective front drive shafts,replacement of steering column,gas pedal problems and sudden unintended acceleration etc etc the list goes on and on keep up the good work Toyota and you can thank Mr.Shingo for making you do more work in less time, at the end of the day when Shingo is involved quality goes out the window and its all about quantity thats why Abbott deserve the Shingo prize!!!
