40% employees Will be layoff from IT, Finance and commercial

I was implying that when your number comes up it comes up. I did not hide from the draft. I was lucky in the lottery that I was not selected.

A friend of mine was laid off from Abbott about 6 months ago. She told me that more and more companies are hiring contract positions with no benefits at less pay than she was getting. It appears the healthcare companies are nervous of Obama Care and what will happen.

When we were RIF'd over a year ago, we were TOLD that part of the reason was because of Obamacare. I guess the rest of it must be because of CORPORATE GREED by Abbott.

Miles asked Mckenzie consulting to find redundancies at IT, Commercial and Finance divisions.
They came back recommending to layoff 40% of the people on those divisions. The announcement will be on June 26, 2014. There will be no Packages or early retirement. The maximum compensation is 39 weeks payment on case by case basis. Also they won't aloud transfers within the company or Abbie.
Sorry for the bad news but is the way things are. I have access to the memo from Mckenzie.

HI, I am formerly of Abbott (circa 2000) recently of Novartis: We are seeing the same McKinsey plan in effect at Novartis - 7,000 + job cuts, IT decimated and outsourced to India. The McKinsey plan also recommends outsourcing finance, accounting, tax, and pharmacovigilance to 'shared services' model hubs in India co-located with IT.

It is ugly when McKinsey starts cutting - they get paid a commission based on cost savings (that is, employees reduced and salaries cut)

Is it just a coincidence that Miles started his "career" at McKinsey? (Early life

Miles White was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He holds two degrees from Stanford University, a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and an M.B.A..[1][2][3]
Career

He started his career as a consultant at McKinsey & Co..[1] He joined Abbott in 1984, serving there in management positions including senior vice president of diagnostic operations and executive vice president.[1] He was elected to the Board of Directors in April 1998, to Chief Executive Officer in January 1999, and to Chairman of the Board in April 1999.[1][2][3]) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_D._White

I'll accept that. I don't necessarily like the word "lucky"to refer to not serving your country.
I would imagine you have a degree and you would have been in college during the conflict so you we're probably exempt. Fighting a war under NATO guidelines and strategic bombing
was another story in itself. I wouldn't ever do it again Gov't screwed up lied and scammed
America Sorry that's what went down

I have had 3 different Managers at Abbott and each one would say there are no layoffs coming and within 6 months saying that there were layoffs. The Managers have no choice but to lie to you. If they confirm the rumor and it spreads the Manager gets Fired. Working for Abbott is like being a Wilderbeast in Africa. You have to be alert to the Lions and Tigers waiting to pounce on you and you try to stay in the middle of the heard. It is all about survival.

Board has really got me thinking about what my future should be. I've been around the block enough to see all the signs... every time them not calling my name is a relief, but who knows now....

I have seen 5 layoffs and each time it makes me sick. The remaining workers feel sorry for the poor souls getting screwed but are relieved that they themselves were not laid off. It can happen to anyone so do not think that you are indispensable. I had a MGR with 20 Plus years say that it will never happen to him. He told me stories of how folks " went postal" and had to be overpowered and escorted in restraints from the buildings. He was let go about 5 years later. He told me that when they lay you off they say : " you can go quietly and have a chance of being rehired (slim chance) or be be in restraints". Abbott Management makes a list of folks they predict will flip out and have several security folks for the huge guys in shipping. He told me about one guy going postal and it took 5 Abbott (Rent a Cops) to take him down.
I am surprised that there have not been any former employees coming back to the place they were laid off and going postal.

I'm a contractor here at AbbVie the tension here is ridiculous. The back stabbing, miss-trust and throwing co-workers under the bus is not a environment in which I would recommend or one that I would want to stay. Good Bye...Thank God

I was not supposed to be in the building during a layoff 5 years ago. The environment was like 911 happening and everyone was in a panic and crying. I thought there was another terror attack. The workers in that building are told to check their voicemail 1st thing and you know if you are "not let go" and safe. This is to keep the 1/2 of remaining employees from going postal. One woman saw me (I am not a regular worker there) and said that she will hide in the women's bathroom till all the folks laying off leave. Not sure how this would save her from being laid off ?

Another Indian guy was led by two security (rent a cops) to the Abbott property line with the public street. This Indian guy was muttering something under his breath in a language I did not know (wore a turban).

I have survived 6 layoffs that I can recall and have 5-7 years till retirement age. It would really be hard to get a job at 60 years old.
