Not defending Z's actions. Neighborhood watch are not supposed to be armed even if licensed (at least that is the way it used to be) and are only suppose to contact police and monitor the whereabouts of suspicious persons from a safe distance. I guess 'suspicious" is in the eye of the beholder and that leads to profiling and that can be construed as racial if the suspect turns out to be of a different ethnic background than the watcher (especially if members of a particualr ethnicity tend to belong to gangs or are otherwise notorious for causing problems in a given area). So what are we to do? New law: cops detain a young man who meets a description of a buglary or robbery suspect but has to immediately let him go because he is of a different ethnicity or sex than the cop--OR--a cop of the same ethnicity/sex must be called in to do the arrest and questioning: ""Charlie, this is Bob. I'm at 23rd and Main. Send over the lesbian, light complected green-eyed arabian, transexual presbyterian over stat!!""
