Where to go.....

What are some opinions on the following scenario...

Do i wait around and wait to be possibly laid off and take a severance when i only have 4 years with Shire and hope i don’t get laid off.

Or is it better to start looking and take a guaranteed position and lose the severance payout?

Aggressively look! Unless you are content selling in the DED space. I am looking and anxious to get out!

Ocular Therapuetics is interviewing across the country now. Allergan is hiring in some places. Keep watching Aerie, Kala& Eyevance as some will not make it or like it. Genentech and Allergan retina may have positions in some markets as their reps left for Novartis Retina. Alcon too-a few reps moved from pharma to Retina. Eyepoint reps will start over the next three weeks. Some may change their minds so watch for openings there. Also, look to step outside the box. There are other opportunities outside of eye pharma.
Sometimes change is good.
If you don’t find something, give Takeda a chance. You never know what may happen. Look for realignments of territories and zones. You will most likely end up with larger territories and some new customers.
If OBU is spun off it will create new opportunities, possibly with another company. If you’re bored with dry eye, it may give you the opportunity to sell in another disease state.

Don’t give up. You’re making a really good salary. You should be making some bonus money to supplement so don’t worry. Go with it. Let’s face it, this isnt hard, it’s just boring.

The better companies and opportunities will not hire from Shire. Dry Eye sales is looked down on by retina and surgical. And honestly by most eye docs. I think most of us look dpwn on dry eye too.

It’s all in how you present your resume and yourself. Then how you present your time at Shire. Most companies do not respect dry eye sales, but they do respect launching new products which includes selling with limited managed care coverage, they respect relationships and they respect rankings. Use what you have. Use your experience to your advantage.
Good luck all. I am headed to a surgical company!

I put that through the translation machine
Surgical company = Contact sales

Last three companies I've worked for didn't even all for numbers. It's about the person, numbers can be fudged.

Hiring manager here.

In neuroscience, there are a few NS/ cons opening with my company. I know some of us are kind of biding our time to see who gets let go with this merger or hoping to pick off people if they leave early.

Personally I look for minimum threshold set by company and have to have at least 3 yrs in neuro, after that I won’t go anyone over 35 because Ive seen bad habits developed and have to overpay for people that relationship sell.

I don’t care about #s. As long as you weren’t at the bottom. I want to know you are a leader, have a voice, and a work ethic. Also to hear how your brain works nd strategizes.

If you’re honestly over 40 and have more than 10 yrs of experience you better prove to me you are not a bumb.

Don’t jump at this one without looking hard. I thought it would be for me based on what I was being told by the recruiter. No competition.? New technology.

How about not covered by Medicare. How about FDA denied approval of this drug TWICE. Look at the company stability. There IS competition with Medicare coverage.

Don’t let the fear of a possible future lay-off or sell out make you jump at a situation that may be shaky. Aerie may be a good example.

Being small minded will not get you the right people...

Contact sales? Or maybe you think I went to a contRact Sales position? I did not, however, the Eyepoint position is very appealing. I followed it closely, but got an offer from a surgical company a few weeks ago. Glad to have used my experiences at Shire and previous companies to catapult my career to follow my personal goals. I was responding to the poster who said surgical companies would not hire dry eye reps. Yes, they will. I’m not a dry eye rep. I am a problem solver, I am a positive attitude, I am a results oriented rep, I am a relationship former. I called on Surgeons. I called on their referral bases. I overcome tough situations. I am tenacious.

Was a joke. Contact lenses.......

If you dont know the difference between contact lens sales and surgical sales you probably arent in ophthalmic sales. Carry on with your limited scope of knowledge.

The OP was trying to type CONTRACT sales. Not CONTACT sales. Read the whole thread for fucks sake...

And yes Eye Point is hiring though PDI, so your now “surgical” sales job in “contract”
