What will we find out on July 11th?

On the 11th our great invisible lapdog leader Junkyard Joe will materialize (on a video screen, not in person) and announce the end of discovery research in New Jersey. Such a brave character.

It won't be the 11th. It will be phased in over time. Hellen Keller could have seen that coming for some time now. People just don't want R&D in Jersey. It's that simple. Not passing judgement on those decisions. It's like arguing with a umpire on a called third strike. It's not going to change the call. It's not like "we made a mistake" and you can go back up to bat. Still walking to the dugout.

The assumption is that discovery will be out of NJ once Bay Area is ready, leaving a building's worth of scientists doing other capabilities until they decide to completely leave NJ. Don't expect them to say we are axing X amount on Y date. This is just the beginning of a lot of changes.

With this approach, looks like productivity and pipeline will lose out big time.

Major changes coming to MRL in KW- research at site will be completely repurposed - announcement coming in July.

What a shitty company. First they cut half of WP research and move positions to KW, then they decide to change directions again. Tons of great scientist getting let go and having positioned back filled with entry level contractors.

This place blows.

No really. You had your chance and blew it. Let other people do it and it will save jobs in the long run.

Yes. We all see it and the incredibly poor lower middle management. Mattai hopefull can see the good vs bad leaders

New KW building for nada. Why even build?

I should not even be typing. Too much vino again. :) The whole KW site was totally mishandled. The initial proposals were a fraction of the cost to get things back into running shape. The building(s) were in worse shape than originally thought. We are talking about 10s of millions of dollars. We were already all in. I don't think they would have touched the KW site if the proper discovery process was done. Don't blame lower or middle management. They are told what to do. Upper management wants "plausible deniability" on everything. If someone tells upper management there is a problem, "plausible deniability" goes away. It's just a game. If you think that discovering issues, reporting them, and looking for action will help you move up, you are disillusioned. Why do you think we have a lawyer as a CEO? A scientist does not know how to play the litigation game.

Yup - upper management now behind the scenes is acknowledging that they should have never cut WP, and even after the cuts WP remains the most productive drug discovery site in the network. KW has not produced much despite the huge investment , and even Roger publicly acknowledged (at his last WP face to face) that Boston has up to now been a failure- he blamed mismanagement at upper levels for that . They are banking on a reboot of the NJ research functions in Cambridge and SF but who knows how long it will be before they produce anything useful - if they work out like Boston , they may never be productive . They are very badly trying to avoid another Boston experience and want the new sites to be successful quickly. Huge gamble that could be a disaster, time will tell. I keep telling you that NJ research will be sacrificed to build Cambridge and SF but no one will listen and everyone says it's all bs. I wish it was. Everyone is waiting on the 11th or the 12th but the truth is that this will happen over time , but there will be substantial cuts at KW in biology and some in med Chem and they will happen in the relatively near future. But you won't wake up on the 13th to see empty buildings , announcements will come and these things will roll out over time. KW research will be rebooted to a capabilities site, and the resources redirected to support the new sites - remember it's a zero sum game. I wish we didn't have to go through this again - best if luck to all the good people in KW.
