Thunderbeat

Charlotte - I heard the GYNs at CMC trashed the Thunderbeat. A ton of thermal spread and couldn't seal a thing....looks like a big miss for Olympus!

No way. Impossible! THUNDERBEAT is the greatest game-changing device in the history of mankind, right? If surgeons are getting bad results it is because they don't understand the nuances and complexity of using it properly. Surgeons want vessel sealing to be inconsistent and technique dependent. Otherwise, they would just use Ligasure.

I knew Thunderbeat was smoke and mirrors! I love how they're discounting it in half, if you buy it with their latest endoscopy system. There's always a reason to make crap look better if it really doesn't work.

Was just watching thunderbeat videos on the Olympus website. Anyone know why there seems to be a "recoil" of tissue after vessel sealing? Is that due to the instrument, surgeon technique or both?

I know in the west (CA) there are several hospitals trialing it, but have said it is too expensive per instrument, without really seeing a major advantage in the clinical arena. Sounds like when the price is too high at the first attempt, the local rep said they would come down in price for the trial, but it wasnt really delivering on the promises the rep was making so.................its a fad like the California Raisins - cool at first and then you wake up and realize its not that cool. Maybe Olympus will sell out like Gyrus did to a real company where they can actually create something hospital/surgeons "want"

California raisons stand the test of TIME . THEY are way cool , speaking of coolkinda like the sonic beat vs Harmonic real cool . But agree on price TUFF sale. Just have to find the right screamer who has to have . yes I know they are few and far these days.

One of the only ways this product will be picked up is to provide cost savings over Ethicon and Valley Lab and right now it is just far to expensive! I don't care what the Drs want if the cost is too high, Supply Chain won't be bringing it in! I used to work at a large IDN and we took the time to crunch the numbers and show each OR and surgeon group how much their electrosurgery spend would go up if they converted - at each hospital it was a minimum of 6 figures just for the hand-helds, no capital included in the analysis which would have drove the price even higher. No matter how much they wanted it - there was not a single OR manager or VPMA that would approve due to cost alone. We are all working together to keep this out - lower the price to get your product in the door so you can PROVE it is faster and better! Good LUCK!

well my good friends look at your contracts they are not tied to endo mechanical and oh lets not forget different NEW technology ,which is written in your contracts HHMMM is there 1 device that has both in it NOPE, except ...yep , only one Thunder beat , or what ever you want to call it . BUT EVERYONE OF THE DOCS I HAVE SHOWN TO CANT WAIT TO USE IT >>>>>>>> SO CONTRACTS MEAN ZIP NADA NOTHING > Clinical sale my friends .
Looks like everyone is worried about it or you would not be out preselling against it . But hey we are only the little players that make double what you make and we don't need it all, but the hospitals would love for us to take it all . Lets see how many line items could this reduce

I just got a Thunderbeat trial canceled and removed the loaner capital from my hospital that was trialing it - keep drinking the company kool aid, enjoy Obamacare and please remember real surgeons never liked Gyrus - enjoy your .0000003% market share :)

And real device reps never post "accomplishments" on cafepharma. They're too busy chipping away at your market share. Douche.

In Europe the price for the Thunderbeat is communicated at 19.000 € (roughly 23.000 $). Disposibles have been quoted at 600 € (738 $). If you consider the usual 10 % discount here, they are still not competitive with Ligasure (250 € or 305 $ for Atlas), Biclamp (250 € or 305 $) or Marseal (70 € or 85 $ per use as autoclavable, non-disposible).

Technology looks nice since no mechanical cut is needed and the psychological effect is not to be underestimated (you get both an ultrasound and electrosurgical vessel sealer for the price of 23.000 $).

For larger clinics the device might make sense in order to save some OR space, but they are already equiped with both ultrasound and electrosurgical sealers, so the big issue for Olympus will be the justification to the administration to have the next sealing device generating even more costs. I agree with the comments before that without financial benefit it will be very hard to market.

:Bump:

How is the panacea Thunderbeat doing out there? I hear all kinds of sales promotions and other 'gimmicks' being considered....doesn't appear the great Thunderbeat made much noise in the market....

THANK YOU for confirming to this olympus energy rep that THUNDERBEAT is by far the best energy device on the market . You are correct real surgeons did not like GYRUS , but advanced real surgeons get thunderbeat .
You should be worried about the battery ultrasonic at 380 with free batteries .
