The truth about working at AbbVie

Change has to start at the top. External hire for CEO will bring about a change in culture in 2-3 years when he or she can bring in new leaders below them. Need whole new C-suite. This company is broken and has become a bastion of mediocrity filled with people who just go along to get along and keep their Knollwood memberships until they can retire on their old-school Abbott pensions.

That is true. Not only at the C-suite. Same recycled retreads circulating amongst the franchises for the last 15 years.
 






Nothing will change at AbbVie until there is sweeping change in the C-Suite. Their behaviors were learned at Abbott and none of them are capable of change. They have permitted a culture that is opposite of inclusive and supportive to perpetuate itself at AbbVie. HR is powerless to stop or change it.

Have any of you ever met our leaders? This is absolutely 100% true across divisions. No change unless board steps in and replaces entire team at the top. They are all complicit in perpetuating this insular culture. It is like a cult. No one wants to put their gravy train in jeopardy so people just go along to get along. It is a bastion of mediocrity based on riding Humira as far and as long as it will take us.

Abbvie is notorious for posting job for the legally required 5 days and then on fifth day and 1 second job posting pulled because hiring manager already knew they were hiring internal candidate or one of their buddies.

So true!!! They always know who they are hiring and it's always a connection thing and not the best person for the job. It's so discouraging. Everything is political.

That is how they filled women’s health jobs a few years ago. The metabolic reps had already kissed ass and “interviewed”” with the respective WH DM’s with assistance by their own DM.

Take your current role do it for one year well, after a really stellar year reach ask you DM about some career advice and say “you know what I would really like to do? (Insert xyz role). Who do you recommend I reach out to and learn more about that role current dm? (If he says let me think about it, that means he doesn’t want to help you, if he does give you a name...you get it)

You have to put it out that you want something to attain it, just like slinging our products your success is directly related to your RELATIONSHIPS.

This is so accurate. Get smart, take your paycheck, keep your mouth shut, put up with all the BS because the gravy train keeps coming. Who cares if everyone around you is brain dead? I can make my tee time at Knollwood every Saturday if I just stay quiet, keep low and do the bare minimum. This place sucks and literally everyone who came from Abbott is counting the days until the pension kicks in.

My last DM only promoted female reps to other jobs and positions and all his DSTs were female so they could bolster their resumes and pad their Abbvie job portfolio. He was also interested in keeping his sister in law in a job share.
