This place was the place to be 15 years ago.

Now if you stay here longer then a few years you are considered a failure in the med device world unless you can document presidents club / sales excellence year over year.

Just speaking from a recruiters point of view who knows that ex ethicon reps have a hard time getting placed since success comes from contract wins and not individual effort like it was years ago.

If you get displaced it is even harder to get placed because recruiters and future employers don't see your value like your company didn't.

It is best to move while you are still employed and always give at least 2 weeks notice.
 






And it is painfully apparent how easy it is to "document" aka lie about your sales numbers because there are numerous reps who never produced, some even canned, who landed better roles because they were "top producers" within Ethicon. Adobe Writer does wonders....
 






Is everyone doing well and excited about hitting their numbers and literally talking to every surgeon in every specialty because we represent 65,000 products that no one cares about.

Very true can't blame the reps, access is tough, hospital employees doing the will of the bean counters, kip doing who knows what each day, and the constant shuffling. Lots of mixed messages, energy products, reprocessing, recalls, representing 500,000 products without being an expert in any. The only consistent message is the customer wants one point of contact which is a myth. The real message is they want the world and don't want to pay for it. Hope one Ethicon is around in 2015-16

It's a slow, continual cascade downwards unfortunately. The "leadership" has been reactive and slow to adapt to the changing market for years. Corporate Arrogance and naïveté coupled with the lack of innovation and a yes man culture will continue to breed unsatisfactorily results to the mother ship with a shrinking and unmotivated salesforce to "sell" commotitized and overpriced products.
 












the place to be now is in managemnet. Access for reps is going to be at best very difficult. Some hospitals now will only allow you in if they email invite. Nice salary, don't have to deal with the grind . Service aspect means zero
 






I would say that management is the worst place to be. When Ethicon management rolls into one field management structure with other MDD Operating companies they will get displaced just like management from Energy, soon to be biosurgery, GYN, ect. Nobody is safe
 






Agreed no one is safe but that is true with tons of other MD&D companies.

Healthcare is tough right now, at least JNJ has name recognition. Tough times ahead true but not for the TL's HBTs and regional specialists
