Pacific Pulmonary Services-Class Action Lawsuit

I've just spent the last hour reading all these posts. As I do with all companies I interview with, I try to research a variety of areas in learning about them. I've seen many companies receive "negative" posts, and some positive posts. However, never have I seen "negative" posts to such an extent and degree of harshness as those involving PPSC.

While I've not made my mind up regarding accepting a position with this company, (don't think they can afford me anyway), this information is very helpful. Even if it's heavily embellished and emotionally charged, it does "say something" about a company! Doesn't it?

Class Action Lawsuit, or not, PPSC does need to do some "corporate soul searching". Japanese ownership is not a cure and add to the misgivings. We can only hope for the best from the Board at PPSC in taking these issues seriously.

Part Two: Just as I thought. I continued with the interview process, only to discover that when challenged with difficult questions, Management simply stumbled all over themselves. Of particularl concern were the questions regarding 1) goal setting, 2) integrity of service and work/family balance. While no expert, I walked away feeling deceived and mislead. It's clear from my interview and evaluation of PPSC, I would never hire this company to work for me!

I was a DM who expanded PPS to eastern US. I had one employee and the two of us were to solely run the branch. I was let go for missing our O2 goal by 2 O2 setups. Our goals were set higher than many other centers who had 6 -10 employees.

I documented every conversation and saved every e-mail. I still did not have enough information to file suit. They simply documented that I wasn't hitting my goals and that warranted dismissal.

PPS is extremely successful and profitable because upper management is very intelligent. This industry is unfortunately not about patient care anymore. If you play the game and simply look out for your own interest you will make alot of money with this company.

Just keep this in mind... make sure you throw all values out the window and FUCK patient care.
......I should have followed my own advice.... I'd still be working there.

I think I know who this was posted by! MY FAV DM EVER!!!!!!!

Hint for the interview process: don't mention a work/family balance. It seems this company wants only singles who don't have any family plans. If you have kids, don't mention them if you want a job.

i've worked for the company for nearly a year now. have had a couple dm's already. all in all i do like the company. i received an education in medical sales...........that's what i am thankful for. i work with some incredible people who have helped me along the way. that being said i am done with it. if you plan on working for the company as a pcc i would highly recommend talking to other dme reps in the area. ask them.....

-do they do their own opo's
-do they do their own set ups
-are they written up if they are in the center during "golden selling hours"
-do they get paid on medi-cal's
-are they asked to work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m............m-f and sometime saturdays
-are they asked to get all the scripts? ensuring quality of scripts
-do they accept hmo's
-if there is a d/c does it effect their numbers. i.e. goal of 14 for the month and you get 15 set ups......3 ptns died in the month; 12 set ups. you will be written up for not hitting your numbers because people died. just wrong
-are they expected to do opo's for other reps outside of their territory
-do they perform set ups for other reps outside of their territory
-are they hovered over by their dm's who are terrified of losing their jobs
-does it take up to a week to get a cpap order verified, ptn contacted and then THEY have to do the set up
-do md's look at them strange as if you're the new rep who won't last
-regardless of their personal financial situation are they expected to spend $400 of their own money a month for lunch's and treats only to hope and pray there isn't an issue later
-do all of their center managers complain all day long about their job
-are the dm's tenured or new
-do they feel like servants
-is the veteran pcc someone who has been there 5 months

the role of the pcc is tremendous and taxing. you are asked to wear multiple hats every day. you're a tech, a sales rep, patient advocate, team player, whipping boy, hero, villain, god, devil. you're appreciated at times and demonized by your rd or dm for not hitting the numbers. EVERY SINGLE PERSON AT THE COMPANY IS NERVOUS ABOUT LOSING THEIR JOB. i am extremely thankful they provided me with the education that they did. i can't take the driving all over to get a medi-cal ptn set up for no cash. or carrying around concentrators and e-tanks where my kids car seats should be. there are pcc's who make a nice living but they have giant accounts. there is no doubt that a pcc should make over 100k a year but pps refuses to bow to the hmo's price. they sacrifice the pcc's ability to sell by attempting to be the "gold standard of dme companies". while all along the pcc's are suffering while asking the doctor "may i please have your medi/medi patients along with the ppo's". great company, with a strong mission but they handcuff everyone with their refusal to accept large hmo contracts. i would recommend the company as a starting off point in dme sales. trust me, if you apply at any other dme company after working for pps they'll give you an interview. we are overworked, underpaid, but highly trained. it works out in the end if you can stomach the culture.

Does anyone have a phone number for Bob Wilson, former DM from Arizona?

I do!!! I love Bob! Who is this?... Or send me info I could send him to look you up...

As for the rest of this - So true , so true. I was with another company that was aquired by PPS... Everything slid downhill. With the exception of Bob Wilson from AZ it seems like anyone that deals with corporate is trained to not care about their employees or their patients... Truly depressing to think of the money they are making off of patients they treat so poorly...

as of 5/31/09 all employees of tempe az pharmacy, new starts & traveldesk shipping have been fired!
all these depts have been moved to peak sleep bakersfield, ca. i have heard that patients are not getting their meds on time. what a crappy co. to work for.

Very true... Plus there are multiple centers that when you call the local number you get one of 6 girls in Bakersfield who are told to make it sound like they are local...

Crappy is right!

I think people should warn their older relatives...

I have never been fired before in my life until I worked at PPS. The six months I was there there was no training or steady sales manager. I was hired to replace another PPC that had decent numbers and no one knows why he was fired. As soon as I started the sales manager that was just hired was fired after only less than a week of employment. 5 months went by before getting another manager, which I found out is no longer there either. When I asked the Opps manager for help, several times, she never personally helped me rather she would either reschedule or have me ride along with another PCC. During the 7 months I was there they went through 3 Sales managers. The opps manager was trying to get me to deliver an o2 concentrator to a patient at the hospital, an elderly patient, and told me to put it in their trunk and don't have any paperwork signed. I did not want to be liable so I delivered the concentrator and set it up with all the signed paperwork to their home. Once I was called into the office to be terminated, they made me sign paper work stating things that were not true. DO NOT WORK FOR PPS!!!

In A nutshell...Do not work for this company. They are complete scum. There was this "Regional Manager"whom I'll refer to as "Smiling Michael"that was the biggest joke of a manager I've ever seen. Not going to go into too much detail and personal bashing ,but now I surely understand why he smiled so much..(he was the devil).

Hint for the interview process: don't mention a work/family balance. It seems this company wants only singles who don't have any family plans. If you have kids, don't mention them if you want a job.

I totally agree that Pacific Pulmonary discriminates against mothers. The work family issue came up in an interview in the Marin Headquarters on the third interview and needless to say there wasn't a fourth interview.

Please don't send your resume to this unethical company.

Anyone unjustly dismissed from Pacific Pulmonary Services or know of anyone that would be interested in Class Action Lawsuit?

We are interested in finding out if this practice is throughout the company or if it occurs in a specific region.

I put in hard work for this company. I worked so much overtime and was on call for a whole month. I would volunteer to work when other technicians didnt want to be on call. I get talked to if I don't volunteer to work after hours even though I was not on call. I was diagnosed with a deceased and they started to eye every move i do so they can fire me. Manager nominated me for President's Award and then turns around and fires me. I couldn't even collect unemployment because PPS disqualified me. DO NOT WORK FOR PPS THEIR UNFAIR AND OVERWORK YOU! THEY CARE ABOUT MONEY NOT PATIENTS

I just saw an article on MSN about 100 companies that are hiring next month. PPS was listed as one of them and had 60 job openings. Duh, they are ALWAYS hiring to replace all the people they fired!

PPS is a classic example of management by "cult of personality". This management style is never good for the business, clients, employees or investors. High turnover, low team member morale and declining productivity are all key indicators of incompetent and/or uncaring senior managers.

Eventually the Japanese ownership will have to bring in competent, professional management to protect their investment. Until they do so, PPS employees, physician relationships and patients will suffer. PPS is a sales organization only. They desperately need professional senior sales management.

Wow, they sure are protecting JA. Cafepharma continues to delete anything with his name on it. JA has failed to make his goals 2 months in a row. This month will be a third, he will not hit his cpap goal. Great job JA. With the goal of ultimate efficiency, the patient has become a non factor. It used to be patient first, not anymore.

PS: answer your emails and vm's.
