Out Of Touch Management

A little perspective would benefit both sides of this discussion.

First off, there were no "bad" or "illegal" business practices with this division of Genzyme, nobody went to jail, nobody paid any legal bills, etc. There was terric patientcare delivered as a result of the sales of this divison's products. The marketplace & accepted practices changed, not unlike other disciplines of surgical sales. This was a proud, successful, & highly profitable division of Genzyme performing miracles in the Sales area. This group did more with less certainly than their competitors as well as peer companies. There were many, many very talented reps & managers here, making a good income, most have left & prospered nicely as well. If this group was not as talented as they were, Sanofi would not have retained them.

The reps from the previous regime profited nicely while in the employment of Genzyme as well as when Sanofi acquired them via their stock ownership. Few Reps & Managers have made as much on their stock for the little that they contributed to the bottom line or appeal from Sanofi as this group. They were very fortunate.

Sanofi didn't need to keep this group either, certainly they could have sold them off, disbanded the group, put everyone on the street...anybody ever consider that in this economy while you're complaining?

Sanofi, an RX Company, as the acquiring company, provides the corporate edict for procedures & business practices, these have worked well for them, they are a highly successful organization. Many additional Reps were hired last year in Sanofi's attempt improve sales as well as acquiring a new company & product to generate revenue for this sales force. The minimal return would not even create a footnote on Sanofi's ledger from either Le Goo or Sepra Film, but they tried & were not successful. They could have downsized the sales force substantially for missing targets as well, certainly this is a very accepted business practice in the Device World, ever consider that?

Sanofi chose to place people in positions of authority that may not have been the best suited for their new roles, but they didn't choose them because they wanted them to fail.
Accepted business practices have changed, the tenure of the sales force has changed as well, but the one thing that is consistent from 10 years ago is that Reps are better-off for their experience with this organization than without it. Most reps when starting with this company were not earning 170-180K but many have, they weren't selling in the OR previously (which is the most lucrative area of Medical Sales) & now have received that experience, in short this Division gave & continues to give more to its Reps than it receives from them in the bigger picture!

There is nothing holding anyone to their position, the door swings both ways, & if it was so easy to leave, I think many desiring to would have left already. I can assure you of this, this Divison can replace it's reps much easier than reps can find a 150K+ job.
People change, organizations change, markets change, this Division is not the first to go through this, virtually each major surgical device manufacturer is feeling downward pressure financially on their reps today. This organization is no different; doesn't make it any easier to take. Looking back for those days 10 years ago is like Organized Labor looking for the Union Jobs in Manufacturing in the 50's, they are gone & aren't coming back. Blaming previous Reps or Management for today's problems is like the Obama Administration blaming Bush for their problems, its a bad practice that doesn't improve the present situation.

Life is too short to be this unhappy, if you want to leave, AMF.
There is always someone who can run the ball a little faster that is dying for the chance.

Your MBA professor must be proud of your book report and also the tidbits on history. Tell us your grade when you turn this in and get back from your teacher. You've had a great field day since it took you probably 6 hours to write. How many cases did you see, or do you not know what a real case is.

Here is the deal.......

Genzyme used to be a culture with a highly entrepreneur spirit. Yes there were cowboys but for the most part it was...here is your territory and here is your product go sell. We had fun. There was healthy competition. We had responsibilities and accountability but when you like your job/leadership and you are making money none of us minded.

We had great sales reports, ranking reports, access to upper manager, quick results if you had a problem, competition, fun meetings, great communication, great ability to make money, etc...

With Sanofi
Levels of bureaucracy
No good reports to help us analyze business
Processes not applicable to device business, iEi, Qlikview,Claudius
You have to be way above 115% each Q to even crack $175k
No communication...b/c the morale is so bad they don't want to make it worse
Fear based management
No healthy competition
Management with no device experience
Bad forecasting
Again....I could go on and on

Remember New reps won't leave because they still have Hope and don't want to job hop
Older reps are waiting for a good position.......its only a matter of time...

I agree with your statement. I would be careful what you wish for. This place is actually a good place to work. It has its drawbacks but if we can stick it out through the tough time it should get better! RR definitely has our back.

How many numbers or quotas or quarters have been hit since we've become Sanofi? Zero, that's because we have the poorest leadership team in device. Ricks scared to fght for us, Dawn hates anyone from Genzyme and all men, and H wants to quit now because of Rick and Dawn. In the words of George Bush, mark my words, we suck. Our leaders are weak and are castaways in Sanofi. Rick said at the regional meeting, this is a quote, "Seprafilm is Dead". Time for someone to list good recruiters because we all be gone soon.

Stick around for what??? What are we waiting for?

Oh, I know....our quotas. We don't get quotas until more then a month into the quarter. How can we hit our tmonthly number if we don't have it? It's just wrong!!! Wrong!! They are screwing people and messing with their livelyhood.

Wait till August for our quotas?? Why don't they just wait till after the end of the quarter to decide quotas, then they may do a better job of forecasting. I heard corporate just went out and purchased several shipments of "Magic 8 Balls." Now before they decide anything, they just shake it and wait for a response. Uhhh should we give the sales force quotas......SHAKE.......SHAKE......."Ask again later." I'm thinking about getting one for myself and using it before I go into accounts.

Hiring Freeze is the first step in the downsizing/reduction in force.
Expect 25% reduction in reps as well as contraction of Sales Managers by atleast 1 in each Area, could be more.
dawn (I won't dignify her name with proper capitalization) is circling the Genzyme folks who "just can't get with the program". "Change is good", right?
Cutting your way toward profitablity to make those Executive bonus'.
RR really has our backs!

Rick is def the fall guy here. DG is the problem and we all know it. Be careful what you wish for, unless you leave! RR will be forced out and Joe B will hire DG as VP then we can all jump off the cliff. No Quotas until August is unacceptable....they are screwing with us, and don't care if we leave. They are not filling our territories if we leave. If you have great experience in med device why are you still here? #2billionin2years

To hr and dawn
Dawn has destroyed the business which used to be known as sepra. Several reps and managers have quit because of her dictatorship. Many more are coming, reps and managers. Everyone is looking. Is it really worth keeping dawn in place to lose what will be more than 10 people in the past year by the end of the quarter. Of you allow this to happen, then everyone is right on the above posts, Genzyme people are targets. Dawn you are known as a cooler. Look it up. Much thanks for destroying something which was important to so many people. You make the whistle blowers look like saints.

Do we have a hiring freeze.....YES

Will we lay people off?... If 10 more pele don't quit yes

Will LeGoo come back?...hopefully not. It doesn't hold up and it is lover priced

Will RR survive? Hopefully boy

Wil DG survive? Yep

Will JB survive? Yep

Does sanofi, suk. Yes. This core behavior stuff protects the POS people who can't sell. DG could never do this job se can't sell or manage. U 2 MW and FP.

Sepra was built on real grease ball dirty selling. For some reason some of those that participated in grease ball selling are still here trying to cling to a past that is long gone. The choice is yours - stay and adapt or leave. Don't know why you are staying...hmmmmm. Right, you're a grease ball and no one will hire you.

Enjoy the company 20cc of saline per sheet. Slurry. Remember AC in KC how u taught me

DG needs to go! So either management is completely blind to her incompetence at leading and managing as evidenced by the morale in the East and the number of people quitting OR she is doing managements bidding and just getting rid of people and cleaning house. My theory is she is driving off current reps so she can continue to fill positions with her Sanofi pharma lackeys.

Accurate post. At least 4 of DG managers are looking. The 2 that aren't TB (part of problem and back stabber and GC (new not her fault) aren't going to solve bigger issues. Ricks a good guy, but DG is out to get him, talks behind his back every chance she gets. Says she's his friend but is brining her enemy close so she can take his job. No one cares though, she will be vp of sales by end of year and more carcasas fro her doing will be road kill.

I couldn't agree more.DG is the issue and everybody knows this, even RR. She is so tied into the Sanofi jackasses RR can do nothing about it. If she had her way this would be a pharma division where everyone makes 110-120. F...k her
