Osteomed Corp.

I thought Osteomed had a great head and neck presence on the west coast with doctors like Shendel, Stringer, Trimble, Arnett and Harry Schwartz using Osteomed and recruiting others. What happened???

Too cheap to keep Arnette...he moves on the KLS and develops their new orthognathic sys

Too cheap to make a video for Dr. Shendel...OM looses most of his distraction business and a very good rep in Tom Koz

Stringer was lost b/c the rep who handled them went to work for the competition and they backfilled him with a very sweet/hot girl who was the rep in Houston. She wasn't fully trained b/c we fired our Field trainer and were too cheap to backfill the position. It also isn't helpful that the Sr. rep from Las Vegas was trying to cover two territories

Not sure on Schwartz or Trimble , but do you see a pattern developing?

Yes, it's 5 til 5pm and I am home

I'm thinking of interviewing for an open cmf sales position. My recruiter didn't know of any new products or momentum for this division. He said they are making gains in head trauma but are still a minor player with "huge growth opportunity". Is that just a way of saying they currently have no market share? Are there any new products in development? Is the spine division converting docs to the cmf products? Thanks for any input.

Run away as fast as you can. Don't walk and don't look back. And get a new recruiter.

let me guess....former rep who couldnt hack it and blame OM for ruining your entire life. am i close? how about....you moved onto another job making $800K/yr and your the sales rep of the year. close again? stop blaming OM for your lack for aggressiveness, salesmanship, and mental toughness and move on with your life. whether OM sucks or not, get over it. this isnt just to this poster, but to all posters who come on this site and hate on every company. seriously, get over it!

i have had terrible experiences with previous employers and rather than let them make me a bitter a-hole, i decided to turn that negative energy into motivation for my current job.

read this article then move on with your life....

Another mass exodus at OM?
Any truth to the rumor that the top SBO rep just left (again in Cali, no not compete in your face OM!) and a top 5 rep was just fired on the CMF side. Whats the average tenure now with this now?

OM CMF rep here....no, none of our top 5 reps have left. our top rep has a $1M+ territory and the other 4 are knocking on the door at $900+. at 18%, those are pretty nice paychecks. their has been a combination of reps leaving and reps being fired, which i think is good. we are cleaning out some of the previous bad hires and non-performers and getting reps with aggressiveness, relationships, experience, and positive attitudes.

their is still a long check list of things to be corrected from previous Directors, Managers, and Reps, but things are definitely changing for the better. its gonna take time but Jim C. and the new RM's are getting things done. my region is up 20% over last years number and we still have 5 months left.

cant tell you anything about SBO or any of their reps. i have no interaction with that division.

Yep we lost a top sales guy to Stryker about 5 months ago. It happens in all organizations from time to time. Turnover is down this year in SBO. It's a great place to work with great opportunities.

Interviewed with OM for an operations position and the hiring manager seemed a little out of touch with current best of practices methodologies. Seemed like a nice small company but was concerned about the many negative comments on this board as to the Ops group. All companies seem to have their negative posters but a company of this size seems to have an unusually large amount, does anyone have an insight as to why? Thx

Good to hear that CMF has stabilized. With 2010 sales down 50% OM only needs 4 years of 20% growth to get back to 2009 sales. I'm surprised there is only 1 rep with a 1mil territory? 4 years ago there were at least 6 (Wisconsin, Memphis, San Diego, L.A., Orange Co., Las Vegas) with Miami, San Fran and Cincinnati close to 1mil.

I see people here love to poke fun at CMF but I think it's obvious Walt does not care how CMF does in the U.S. It's done OK overseas and SBO is obviously OM's better choice for US growth. He devotes the minimum resources to keep it afloat and hope for a miracle probably b/c it was OM's first products. But I don't see how Jim can keep Synthes and Stryker from squeezing OM down to nothing.

I believe the company slogan needs a refreshing. So from now on, instead of

OsteoMed: A Tradition of Quality and Innovation

Maybe they should change it to.

OsteoMed: A Tradition of Negative Growth and Low Retention.

There, that's better. Good luck playing with your foot and ankle doctors guys, the rest of us will sell REAL medical devices that actually improve patients lives instead of getting an 80 year old woman back into high heels!

Working in sales at OsteoMed is a really bad job. I've worked at 3 medical device companies and OsteoMed is far and away the worst of the 3. One of their biggest problems is that they entrust people to develop products with little to no experience and get limited surgeon feedback. Also they have Walt and Toby that do very little or nothing at all to improve the company. They simply collect paychecks. Therefore reps are stuck with 5th best product in the field. Most reps that stay do so out of necessity because of the poor job prospects in the economy. There are actually decent reps at OM because it is hard to find jobs right now. OM is benefitting from that fact. Even though they have one of the highest turnover levels in the industry, it would be even higher if the economy was better.

Their new foot plating system is so bad that it should be recalled. They have lost a lot of respect in the industry because of it.

yes, things are stabilizing compared to previous years. as far as walt, i had 2 RM's tell me that at a managers meeting a few months ago walt asked them what he needs to do differently. the top response was for him to get out of Jim C's way and let him go. i can tell you that, so far, walt has done this. THE SINGLE CHANGE THAT WILL BOOST OM CMF SALES, which they never did in the past, IS TO DO UNRESTRICTED GRANTS TO RESIDENT PROGRAMS. that was my first and single most important question during my interviews. OM is now doing this and i have definitely had a positive response from the neuro and omf programs. it hasn't gotten me any biz YET but it has certainly opened doors and allowed me to start the conversations with the right people. it will take time but it will happen.

san diego is our top territory. vegas, omaha, san fran are the other top 3. cincy (OM pulled a try from children's hosp that was billing $11k/mo) and atlanta (was $1M territory but rep quit and RM didn't fill position for 6 months!!!!) are prime examples of terrible managers and internal management making STUPID ASS decisions. those times are gone and were heading in the right direction.

big 2 cmf rep here....i completely agree. i think OM is starting to make a little bit of a difference. i think they could easily pick off biomet-lorenz and chip away at kls. stryker and synthes are way too far ahead to make any threat. this is strictly my opinion based on my territory. i have seen OM product line and they have a lot to offer, they just have never had any good reps or consistant faces.
