I doubt those cuts will come from neuroscience- its well known that our best talent remains in that division. Look for cuts in cardio and MSK- and a shift of primary care neuroscience to the mens health division. Neuroscience surprisingly is the safest spot to be.

Why then is the company ramping up manufacturing capacity there with the building of a new biotech plant?

They also recently announced the setting up of a new financial services centre there!!

Ireland still has one of the lowest Federal corporation tax rates anywhere so I dont think so.

Ireland is still the darling for US pharma and not just for We Lie Lilly. Take a close look and you find most of the big players have large manufacturing operations there.

I am open to correction but didn't Obama specifically mention Ireland when he spoke about US companies channelling profits through third part countries to avoid US taxes?

Think Cayman Islands only greener.

Why then would Ireland be next?

If anything expect to see more US jobs outsourced there and of course to China!

Word out on the street is that we are already in China in a very big way, and that the most qualified Chinese are from .... place just like Indianapolis. So, when you wonder why all of the Chinese get promoted so quickly - they might just have a ticket home, and a job there!

Personally I think it's a huge mistake. All Intellectual Property will be gone. Competing international drug firms like Mothership Lilly will be subject to salary competition and IP leakage. The competing firms are right across the street from each other in many cases.... It's just one huge Technology Center.... and once we have paid for it, it's all their baby.

Nice work, executive management. Give yourself a big bonus and get out.

Exactly. In fact, they're not just across the street from each other, but in the SAME building! Is this ever an IT & IP challenge, or what?! So, will Corporate Center still be here in a few years or just an affiliate to the overseas Mothership? Wow, have we ever been sold out! Protest, protest, protest... If memory serves, there once was a CEO who was overthrown a few years ago (someone we might prefer back)...

Neuro is the safest place to be?? Really?? Our president said that Biomedicines is "DONE with reallocations". Except for the possibility of a market change or some unknown; maybe read LLY news. ALL of Bio med is safe, from a sales rep standpoint, and cutbacks are necessary to get through the next 3-5 years; but neuro is no "safer" then msk, diab, cvbu, pc, sp, whatever...its ALL safe.

Good post, but from what I have heard, Ireland's status as being the "darling" of US pharma is diminishing. While corporation taxes are very low other costs such as energy and labor have been subject to huge inflation over the last decade.

Plus, their corporation tax rate is viewed with contempt among many of it's EU partner countries, especially by Germany and France, who have been attacking it for years. Similar to the US Ireland is in deep financial trouble at the moment and are recieving bailout money from the EU bank. As the old saying goes he who pays the piper calls the tune so if the French and Germans have their way and get tax harmonisation across the EU Ireland is toast.

China is another matter entirely.

The rumor is that he isn't even safe sitting in his office on the 12th floor of B73. Not the first time a reallocated person needed to climb the mountain to gain wisdom and guidance directly from the great and power Oz. It probably won't be the last... It is amazing that the person was able to make it through all of the flying monkeys that are supposed to be in place to keep him safe from his loyal munch-kins of the lollipop guild.
