New Kyprolis Sales Team thoughts at Onyx?

So how did everything go at the first week of training? Heard you guys are getting screwed already, especially with the car allowance and bonus plan? Feedback so far is everyone had to go out and buy a car upon hire without parameters, then they are cutting the allowances and mileage back to .33 after the fact. Also, heard they are not paying you guys out until August 20th, by then they can see the trends and set the goals accordingly. Heard the benefits suck too. Sure smells like big pharma all over again? Enjoy!!

I wish the Novartis trolls who got passed over would get off this board!! Onyx is awesome and everyone that was there knows that!! Enough said!! Car thing was a suprise, but hope we can make it up in bonus or options?

Fed car allowance, and industry standard, is $.55/mile. The hiring manager assured me it would be at $.55/per and I bought my car with this in mind. So why the F is Onyx doing this? This is a major red flag & unfortunately looks like a sign of things to come.

Yeah, definitely a distraction and took the wind out of our sails this week. Hope this is not a sign of things to come. When I interviewed, I was told Onyx offered a "Best in Class" car allowance/mileage reimbursement program. With that in mind and interviewing with other Biotechs, I was thinking $1,000 a month and .55 a mile? Now I hear its like $475 and .33 a mile, about half of the going rate of other Biotechs (Genentech/Ariad/Seattle). Oh well, hopefully the goals or incentive compensation will not be next to go, or I am out of here!!

While this may help some, the gov't allows a mileage deduction on your income taxes....it's still a tough thing to come back on you with after saying it was part of the benefit.

The $1000 at other companies is taxed just like the $700 we get today is taxed. The new rate of approx. $475 is not taxed and is not adding $8400 to your W2. The monthly is a complete wash= $700 taxed vs. $475 cash. The mileage reimbursement thing is based off of where you live. If you live in a state or city where gas is cheap your mileage reimbursement will be lower than someone in LA or SF or NYC etc. Seems fair enough as why should the guy living in Indiana profit more from driving than the guy in NYC? The difference in mileage reimbursement if you drove 50K miles in a year, which I'm guessing almost no one will drive that much, is $11K, is you are at the low end of .33 vs. .55. and btw get to turn that in for a tax deduction. Not that big of a deal, and certainly not a deal breaker for most, if any of us…

Somebody has been drinking the onyx kool aid! This is a true bait and switch post hire and a huge mass market big pharma move!! The only good thing is this should void our employment agreement so we can keep our signing bonuses. Ariad is starting to look good again? Gonna be some empty territories if this keeps up!!

Great then hit the bricks...everyone is replaceable.

And you will get audited, which is really fun.

That's what Bayer did so most took the company car option instead. Company car is a better deal if the reimbursement is that low. Why didn't they just offer company cars?

Thanks BS in ops for this wonderful program! Can SG fire her already!!!! OSCAR is a disaster, and she has a poor attitude and disposition in general. Two things she's done while here took money out of our pockets and made more work for us. Thanks! Between this new car program and Oscar how does she still have a job here? Her big pharma policies are a joke She does not 'fit'.

SG definitely needs to handle that disaster. She is a morale killer. SV must be pissed!!

This mileage thing is total bullshit! I can't believe they sprung this news the first week of orientation. I have a large rural territory. If I calculated correctly, I will be losing over $10,000 annually based on the difference in milage reimbursement alone. You can't claim these miles on your tax return, because they were reimbursed, (albeit partially) by the company. The .55 cents set by the federal government takes into consideration all of the variables and variances when setting this rate nationally. The least this company can do is maintain the federal standard.

What will be next?

A Bayer takeover will be next. You should have had the car reimbursement put in writing in your offer letter. no money to be made here

I never would have taken this job or went out and bought a brand new car if I would have known this. This has to be criminal to sell this benefit to you on your interview, then bring it up 4 times at our first training and first impressions of the company. How many times did we hear, if you haven't bought a car, don't!! Only 3 people in the class raised their hands that did not buy a car already. Great first impression Onyx, welcome to the company and enjoy your $10,000 pay cut!! Wish they would have kept the crab and lobster and give us the car allowance we were promised upon hire. What a freakin' mess!! Thought this company was better than this? Bonus's will change next, guaranteed!!

You all "hoping" to make up the lost reimbursement in bonus/commissions? HAHAHA I'm sure you guys will have very low objectives and be able to blow them out ???

Idiots look at the past few years and companies with new product launches...objectives were sky high. Look for same.

Looks like the ole saying is still true: Grass ain't greener on the other side. You big pharma clowns should've stayed at Novartis

you're never going to get 55 cents a mile if you're getting a monthly stipend for the car. do some reading on the subject rather than just spewing nonsense. the monthly pays for the car payment and the insurance, and the mileage reimbursement pays for the gas, maintenance and wear and tear. gas prices are high - that sucks. but no one needs to go out and get an Audi or Acura, etc.

go get yourself a nice honda accord or hyundai and you'll be fine. remember, the auto reimbursement is supposed to be a break even program if you're driving a sensible vehicle - not a free ticket to a beemer.

All biotech companies that have a name you would recognize, offer a monthly allowance and .55 cents per mile. The last company i was employed at, offered $800/ mo plus .55 per mile. Huge cut for me. Just ask anyone at Genentech, Alexion, Biogen, Medivation, Ariad, Seattle Genetics, Spectrum etc. etc. I was told that Onyx always tries to be the first in class for everything. Their reputation was part of the reason I came to Onyx. Let's hope that they do the right thing here. It would be no way to start things off.
