Mike & Amy - MS FRANCHISE FAVORTISM & DYSFUNCTIONAL

The franchise is in desperate need for changes. There has NEVER been such an unfair disparity amongst territories worse than this! Unbelievable how some territories are showered with MS specialists and business and others given no potential at all with targets not even treating MS. Managers have completely favored preexisting Genentech employees in both superior territories and other opportunities.
If the territories are going to continue to be unfair, then go to the MBO system and share the wealth to all the hard working deserving reps. EVERYONE is talking about this! Horrible example to the whole industry.
MAJOR IMBALANCE of how employees are treated so differently around here. Must be nice to be given a major MS territory and get the motherload of bonus and then we all have to cringe as they get their excellence award because they were "better ". This is called crap.

I completely agree. My manager treats the in-house Genentech employers so much better than the outside hires. they are friends and it's obvious to everyone. They are put on task forces and have way better territories. I'm for MBO as well. At the end of the day, they aren't doing anything better yet make a ton more money and praise. If an area does well then we all should be rewarded. All my patients keep getting infused outside of my territory and I get zero credit.

This is how it works in Genie land. Welcome to the jungle. It’s a way to promote the good ole boys/gals, the “preferred candidates”. Gene is run like a country club. If the members don’t accept you, you’ll have to forgo your membership. Good luck.

I also have been so disappointed with the leadership of the MS division! I have to add my two cents as well. My anxiety level is through the roof. I have been shocked by the blatant favoritism myself with my own division. My manager has pre-set the path for specific individuals to get promoted even before we started! I actually got a bit of information my manager promised one of my teammates (a good buddy of his) that he will do everything in his power to get him promoted. Solution: give him one of the best territories and also put him on an ad board. The dude couldn't sell himself out of a plastic bag and used to call me and take my ideas and then take ownership of my ideas on team calls and meetings. I woke up real fast. My husband wants me to quit. Truth be told, I think Genentech in many ways is a good company but they aren't operating that way in this franchise. They will lose a lot of good people.

If "Genie Land" is run this way, then things need to get exposed and get changed. Wake up Management! The Franchise's survey sucked and people are calling out the obvious favoritism. I have NEVER and I mean NEVER seen territories created this way. There should absolutely not be a rank report when there is no sense of equality in opportunities whatsoever. This is so sad. Mike is from Biogen and should know better. Amy should know better and do something about it. Any kind of award ceremony for this screwed up division will be a sham. Shame on all for not making things right.

Feeling the same and very much regretting coming here. I was making more money at my previous company and felt everyone was treated the same. Here it is just the opposite. I too have a manager that has hyper-focused on their favorites. These happen to be Genentech empolyees that came from other divisions. My territory is absolute crap compared to theirs.

I'm in the same boat. Regretting ever coming here and I am doing well. Culture is terrible.

If you don’t like the culture leave! We got 10 people easy to take your place. And remember we are an oncology company not MS. Wouldn’t be surprised if we move some of our oncology reps over. You guys aren’t moving sales.

LOL. Not moving sales? You either don’t work here or are living under a rock. And, many of the oncology reps here are a joke. You have never had to “sell” a damn thing. Competitive selling is a foreign concept to many Genentech employees.

Genentech oncology drugs sell themselves. No reps actually needed. Can’t access oncologists anyway. Dropping off donuts to the oncology receptionist doesn’t count as selling. Bet you move a lot of sales of Krispy Kreme’s.

There's absolutely no reason to have internal senseless, mindless squabbles from the MS reps vs Oncology reps. I've sold both and have been in other areas of medicine as well. Tired of the BS that one is better than the other. Please give it up.
With that said, I have to admit the culture in the MS franchise is very dysfunctional. From the very beginning, the "newbies" were treated very differently from the reps that had already worked here. I also agree the territories that have been created are an absolute disgrace. I don't know how my manager can rationalize in their head the stark and contrasting differences. It's actually quite embarrassing. How can you possibly think any type of ranking is fair when well documented top performers were given territories that have absolutely no chance for sales at all. One of my teammates literally has to call on physicians that don't treat MS at all.
I hope someone like Amy is reading this because they need to wake up to the reality something is seriously broken and they need to start making some serious changes.

I think so too. It's causing a lot of tension and animosity amongst team members. The Genentech reps that were gifted territories that can't be compared to others know damn well it's true. They aren't doing anything different for the business. The conference call tomorrow morning better be addressing these differences and coming up with solutions.

Stop crying and complaining. Get to work or get out!

You are working in pharma (although you may think you are better) being overpaid for a product that could easily sell without your presence.

Take a look around at the pharma industry and changes impacting many employees. You do not need to look far... It's the product...

Please do not forget how the offices either prefer Starbucks or Dunkin!!!

If this wasn't such a lazy, privileged culture that pays a lot of (too much) comission $$$$ to our people not working that have products usually selling themselves, this dysfunctional environment probably wouldn't have been created. Very sad comments on here. Our company recruits and retains greed. I see it at headquarters in SF too. Our sales team is entitled. Just the way it is. Greed. Laziness. Greed. Laziness.

You're a fucked up idiot. Starbucks...if you have targets to go to. You aren't even on topic moron. We are discussing the unfairness of how territories have been cut. You're an ass. Now Shoo and go away bug

I'm in BioOnc and I can promise you we sell- in fact you wouldn't even have a job if it wasn't for the revenue we have brought in.

That said I've heard that some of the reps in Oncology will be moved over to MS territories that aren't performing.

What a tool. You don't know shit, asshole. Sales are sales...regardless of what you say dumbass. They will have no choice but to move a portion of the oncology reps to the MS division for reputation and public relations only so it shows they tried to save some of the employees. These employees however won't be replacing anyone. You, however, will probably be let go. Idiots like you with such false superiority complexes eventually get theirs in the end. You sound like such a sad, sad person.

Wow...you sound like you might snap. Deep breathe cupcake...

And no they will move some of us over to MS because we have been performers for a long time and MS needs to be infused with better sales reps and definitely better leadership. A lot of people aren’t moving the needle in your division and clearly need to be replaced. This isn’t a charity job!!

Come on I think that is a little harsh. We are all in this together. Yes MS division has lots of problems and a lower level of experience representative but we are all Genentech! This is a great company and will do what is best for our people and business in the end. I don't see us getting rid of the weaker reps and management in MS we will probably just reallocate them to another division that is representative of the skillset.
