Lederle Labs: any reps from the Cyanamid days still around?

Old Lederle here; I think you guys are on drugs. Lederle was a failed company when we were taken over by AHP. We brought the bean counters with us. Anybody remember the meeting when sales reps. were referred to as RPU's, revenue producing units, completely dehumanizing the sales force. AHP was stupid for putting our people in positions of power, that's worked out well.

Lederle did a great job selling Zosyn, that drug was a dog until the company was TAKEN OVER by AHP. The biggest mistake was putting Lederle people in positions of power in the new organization. We can all see what the results have been. The only good thing they provided us with was that egotistical midget Tony B to make fun of, and without Tony we would not have his faithful cheerleader Rookie of the Year. I guess "puppet man" Mike M was good for a few laughs as well. Well, maybe thoses losers were not so bad after all- wait Johnny J jingelheimerschmit came from Lederle too. NEVER MIND.

You're the same prick that keeps posting over and over about Tony B. I don't Tony B, but I do know that you are a pathetic asshole of a loser. Zosyn was doing just fine before Wyeth bought Lederle. What was it that Wyeth actually brought to the table? NOTHING! What was Wyeth's experience in selling in the competitive hospital environment? ZERO. Wyeth had no IV antibiotics in it's stable of products, and they sure as hell knew nothing about the market. The only thilng they had was the horse piss, and you see where that's gotten us. Now go back to schlepping donuts you piece-of-shit REPBOY.

Actually bean counter married bean counter!

Are you sure the exam for HibTiter was in San Fran? I remember taking the exam with proctors walking around to make sure you didn't cheat. Very difficult product. I thought we did that one in Orlando. Who knows....all I know is I miss Lederle!!

Or was it Hib-Immune in SF? Didn't we take two tests in San Fran?

Not sure I was ever in San Fran for launch. There was a time when the Advantus division went to either San Diego or San Fran. It seems there was a launch meeting in Orlando every 6 months! If it weren't for parmaceutical companies, the Swan and Dolphin would have never been filled up. I am fairly sure HibTiter was Orlando with armed guards walking around looking for "cheaters"
I remember several weeks afterward there was a report generated showing the RMs how many times a rep had to take the test to pass. You think "Big Brother" now. Even back then.

So, what happened to the Advantus division? Whatever happened to Prostep?

I just read the news about the Wyeth layoff. I worked for Lederle Labs years ago. I thought I would throw out some names I remembered and see if any of those folks were still around. Tough times in the industry, and I sincerely feel for all of you. I know that many quality people were cut with no real justification other than a bad business climate.

Any updates on these people would be appreciated:

Brent Clarkson, DFW area.

Jael Castaneda, DFW area.

Rob Happe, DFW area.

Mark Sanders, DFW area.

Jennifer Hornak, Lubbock.

Randy Peets, Midland.

Frank Otken, Lubbock.

David Chambers, DFW area.

Fred Bilbo, DFW area.

Dana Hampton, Amarillo.

Laura De La Garza, DFW area.

Bruce Stewart, Wichita Falls.

Dwight McCoy, DFW area.

John Rickerson, DFW area.

Carol Sheets, DFW area.

William Stetzer, DFW area.

John Duke, DFW area.

Marjorie Hallstrand, DFW area.

Robert Decapua, DFW area.

Melba Fritz, DFW area.

Cliff Pumphrey, DFW area.

Joe Casey, DFW area.

Hey, I know thats a lot of names. All good people. I hope if any of the above are still with Wyeth, they survived the layoff. If any of the above have moved on to greener pastures, any updates would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dana Hampton of Amarillo now works for Pfizer. As far as I know, she survived the recent Pfizer layoff. Hampton is not her name now, but I can't remember what it is.

Is David Chambers still in Sherman, Texas?

Those "mirrored" divisions in Lederle dissolved once AHP bought us. Prostep went OTC eventually but fizzeled out in that venue eventually.

It's hard looking back and remembering the fun, selling scenerios using trade journals (if it was published you could openly talk about it; just not leave copies behind). Being a competitive person I was always looking for that hook to pull the physician in, while sticking it to Lilly, SKB and Merck KWIM?

This feels so robotic now, we're just empty guns with no fire left in us. The bottom line Pharma hires people who have a sales mentality and then they clip our wings and have us do everything else but?

The extensive computer work is BS, (wait I don't mind new product selling modules) but the litigation reviews every month is sucking it out of us.

I hate to refer to "the good old days". Makes me feel so old. But things certainly have changed. Bog pharma has taken a shotgun and blown its' foot off. The pharmaceutical rep used to be a part of the medical community. We used to provide information, support both monetary (for various programs) and samples for patients who could not afford the drugs. Used to be the office staff would smile when you came through the door, now they growl and glare and say "Doctor doesn't see reps" slam.
Anyway, glad I'm at the end of my career (11 months to retirement) and not at the beginning.

Anyone remember the Suprax launch bonus back in 1989? $10,000 if you met the launch goal! Remember, those are 1989 dollars! That would be worth even more today!

I had so much fun selling pharmaceuticals back then. I don't want to complain too much, but it really is sad how the job has changed.

The #1 thing that has killed the industry: Share of voice and lawyers. Lawyers have ruined our ability to sell. We could sell from any journal, trade publication, even newspapers! Intelligent physicians evaluated our data and then made a real prescribing decision.

We don't need lawyers telling physicians what they can and can't see.

Sad..........................

Yeah, it really has changed. I do remember the Suprax launch and then the hammering we took because we couldn't make the number.
I will say this again. With the new regulations going into effect in JAn and what the industry has done to itself, the pharmaceutical rep will not exist in 3 years. Why would a doctor spend time chatting with a Ken or Barbie when he could instruct his staff to order samples from any comapany he wanted and have them in 3 days.
I hope we know how good we had it in the Lederle days.

I made the Suprax launch bonus back in 1989! Quite a few people did in my region. Maybe it varied by geography. Anyway, I miss those good old days!

This thread warrents a response. Launching Pristiq, with it's deperation to keep Wyeth as a big player in the pharmceutical industry, reminds me of the Prostep launch in the early 90's. Lederle was also going down the tubes. So there was this huge expectation for Prostep (another pro drug in a purple box) to make record sales, the pressure to sell and counting original prescribing habits almost mirror what we have now. Natually they were unrealistic since we were the third me too product out there. Management didn't care. We had to perform and then Wyeth bought us, hummmmmm?

I remember selling Prostep. It really was a joke. However, I do miss the vaccines.........
