Lederle Labs: any reps from the Cyanamid days still around?

OK guys, I'm starting to get choked up. My first launch was Pip in St. Louis and yes it was cold. Three waves, remember.? New Orleans, wow, Orlando, wower, andAtlanta! I am sure I am one of the luckiest guys around. I saw the best days of the pharma industry. I was able to retire last year with all the bells and whistles. IS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY, OR WHAT?

It seemed liked we were in Orlando every year or 6 months for awhile...was hard to call the wife and lye about what a boring time we were having...paradise island, need i say more.

I remember the Suprax launch at the Anatole in Dallas. That was my first launch meeting in the pharmaceutical industry. I was blown away by the entertainment, the excitement, and the potential bonus dollars!

I could not believe I had gotten this lucky to be hired into the pharmaceutical industry. My, how times have changed.

Remember when Lederle and every other company had one rep per territory? That was a great job! Doctors only saw 2 or three reps in a week. They enjoyed seeing us and giving us time to talk about our products. All of our products. I had every product that Lederle sold in my bag.

I could use any reprint I wanted from any journal. The Doctors really thought of us as consultants. Sales force expansion and the lawyers not allowing us to talk about any new info from journals has absolutely destroyed this job.

Why am I still here? The paycheck......................sad, but true.

I am a retired Lederle rep. 32 years with the company. I am sorry for all the changes you younger folks have suffered. This really was a good job in my time.

It really is amazing how an industry can change in little more than a decade. I am lucky, I still have a nice pension and good memories.

Best of luck to all of you. If you change careers, try to at least find something you reasonably enjoy. Sometimes the extra money for a life a misery is really not worth it.

One rep per company per territory. I agree, this was a great job in those days. Share of voice..............what a joke!

Lederle and Cyanamid together were an excellent company until AHP took us over in 94. Since the merge, this organization has been run by r*****s with one hand in their pants and the other on the adding machine. Bean counters without personality. In 2002 we officially became Wyeth. A big hurrah about nothing. The same assholes were put in place by like-minded assholes before them.
Today's assholes were selected by yesterdays assholes. Difference now is that they're not just stupid, but meaner than ever before. The same mentality applies. Only the bottom line matters.
In the short term that's fine, but over the last 6 years, we've turned to shit. Now look at who is leading us. No matter how badly they do, they will become millionaires.

(Lederle and Cyanamid together were an excellent company until AHP took us over in 94). If they were so great, why did they get themselves in the position to be taken over? We could have fired you all, we didn't, we were humane.

I will admit, I had better sex at launches with former Lederle reps than with Wyeth reps.

I'm a ACY employee, started in 1987 in Wayne, NJ. Not a Rep though, I'm in Corporate in Madison. Those were the good ol days! There are still many ACYer's in Madison. No comparison to the Wyeth employees.

I just read the news about the Wyeth layoff. I worked for Lederle Labs years ago. I thought I would throw out some names I remembered and see if any of those folks were still around. Tough times in the industry, and I sincerely feel for all of you. I know that many quality people were cut with no real justification other than a bad business climate.

Any updates on these people would be appreciated:

Brent Clarkson, DFW area.

Jael Castaneda, DFW area.

Rob Happe, DFW area.

Mark Sanders, DFW area.

Jennifer Hornak, Lubbock.

Randy Peets, Midland.

Frank Otken, Lubbock.

David Chambers, DFW area.

Fred Bilbo, DFW area.

Dana Hampton, Amarillo.

Hey, I know thats a lot of names. All good people. I hope if any of the above are still with Wyeth, they survived the layoff. If any of the above have moved on to greener pastures, any updates would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Frank Otken retired quite a few years ago. He moved from Lubbock to College Station to be near family. That's all I know.

Old Lederle here; I think you guys are on drugs. Lederle was a failed company when we were taken over by AHP. We brought the bean counters with us. Anybody remember the meeting when sales reps. were referred to as RPU's, revenue producing units, completely dehumanizing the sales force. AHP was stupid for putting our people in positions of power, that's worked out well.
