Is it true OCEAN done in September?

The target list is from July1-Dec 31. You would think it would only run from July 1-Sept 30 if the contract was going to end in Sept. There may be some substance in this.
Serious replies only.

At POA we were told that new Rxs have increased by 4% with Ocean. That is what we were hired for.
AZ reps were told at a meeting the Ocean was making a difference.

I normally don't think too positive when it comes to contract renewals, especially since we haven't heard anything yet--but it has come to my understanding the Gemini folks with AZ (Dutoporol/Vimovo) guys were supposed to end in June and right before that, they decided to keep them until December 2012. So it would look almost obvious that we have a fighting chance they will at least extend us until 12/31, based on that assumption and that our data goes til then.

....But who am I to know?

Good news that there are two potential contracts in the works during 1st quarter 2013. Not sure who they are with though. Obviously we'd all have to re-interview as it's not a given but a few months of unemployment wouldn't be the end of the world, at least for me.

Since the Ocean/Crestor sales force has delivered the >4% new rx increase, is there any logical reason why the contract should not be extended? It is tougher with generic atorvastatin out there and all the more reason to keep seasoned reps like the Ocean guys on board.

Since so much of what you have stated with the Ocean group contributing to Crestor at least holding onto share, why wouldn't they extend the contract? One thing you must keep in mind much like the way this contract has been run since day 1. None of it makes any sence. So please stop trying to say we have done this and therefore we deserve that. Plain and simple is that it was a one year contract and nothing else. What will it take to make you realize your just a number, like the metrics that you must meet with calls per day and such. If it gets extended than it just buys a little more time. It's life in the contract business. We are brough on for a set period of time and that is all. Like it or leave it, I say.

That is right!! A contract is just a temporary fix!! Take the job and spend ALL of your time looking for another job to move on to!!! Good Luck!!! Contracts and Pharma DO NOT LAST FOREVER!!

Because manangers have nothing better to do. Remember we can justify our existence and our worth thru driving sales numbers. Manangers on the other hand have to act as though they have something to do with the positive results. There was once a day when a good manager would stand up for his or her reps and ask upper manangement the tough questions. In the world of contract the mananger is just a babysitter that only gets in the way. It was once they would check expense reports and pass them along. Now it is all done electronicly. Other than the worthless POA's, the conference calls and the dreaded ride along these poor saps would have nothing to do. When is someone going to realize that so many of the jobs in pharma are a complete waste of time and money? If it was my company it would be manangers and CSA's out and let the reps that were hired go to work. If they don't perform then they are out. The system is in need of a major revamping. Wiil things ever change? I say it has only gotten worse with more management that do nothing but try to justifyu their existence. The job itself is very simple. It's the understanding of reports they give you thats hard to make heads or tales of. I guess they want them as confusding as possible so that you just accept the fact your getting screwed. Goals? If anyone is able to grow market share more than the 4.7 percent That territory must have been vacant or reps didn't work all of 2011. If it's an extention your looking for I have one for you. It's located between my index and ring finger. No go out there and sell.

Maybe it is because the contract is going to be extended. Open territories are being filled and training classes are scheduled for new hires in August. I may be wrong, but these are positive signs.

You are wrong. DMs don't know what's going to happen, they just have to try and keep us focused, busy and motivated. New hires and training classes mean nothing. It's been said before and I'll say it again... It's pretty much business as usual until 30 days out or less. If you ask me, I think the writing's on the wall, even if it's not official. Maybe SOME will stay, but most have less than 90 days before they hit the unemployment line.

Already in neutral, coasting to the finish line...If I were told it's all over at the end of Sept, I would do the same amount of work, as I can do no more than what I am presently not doing, you?

Unrealistic goals, unrealistic targets, unrealistic opportunity to make bonus, unrealistic to think that this contract will get extended. It might for a few of us, but how they will determine who stays and who goes is is anybodys guess. Unrealistic to think you can make a career out of working in contract. Unrealistic to think you can show your impact when targets suck, they change, and intro of Atorva. makes growth nearly impossible. Lastly, unrealistic to think we will know our destiny until end of Aug. Realistically, this has been a nightmare since day one.

New hires for Crestor are going to training in August. Open territories are being filled.

There may well be a reduction in the OCEAN rep head count. The contract will likely be extended for the short term like the end of Dec. with fewer reps on board. Cuts will occur in top heavy metropolitan areas with over saturation. Don't know how performance can be used as a retention criteria since reporting has been spotty at best and targets have changed regularly.

Ok then, if that's true, they sure as heck better announce something soon. With about 2 months to go, most of us have in our mind that we will be done. I was hired for a 1 year contract and I haven't heard anything different than that... I will do my job 'til the end, but the end is near so you can bet I and 90% of other motivated reps are looking elsewhere. If at the last minute they tell some or most of us that they want us to stick around a little longer, it may be too late because a lot of us will have already found other jobs.

Not to mention, if they at least would let us know that SOME of us will remain, it might increase productivity and morale for ALL of us as we wait to see if we'll continue. Due to the fact that we're still hearing nothing with so little time to go, my money is on this thing ending in September.

"Why are open territories being filled and new hires sent to training in DE in August? Why does the current call cycle run from July 1-Dec 31 if this is true?"

Because this is the way that pharma is run!!!!!

My last company ordered me a new vehicle two weeks before they laid me off. I know of several trainees for this same company who did their home study, and were waiting at the airport for their flight to training, only to receive a call on their cell phones telling them that their position had been downsized/eliminated. "Thanks so much, but don't get on the plane."

Publicis must hedge their bets and continue on as if the contract is being renewed because they don't really know what will happen yet. They will only know when AZ tells them. And they have to be operating as if it will be extended, just in case it is. But if it isn't, then it's "thanks for coming to the training class, but you all have to go home now."

The above post is spot on. One of my former co-workers was 1/2 way through a 2-week training at the corporate office (another co.) when a re-organization was announced. New hires completed training, we're out in the field 1 week, and then 1/2 were downsized. That's just the way pharma is. It's crazy and yes, thousands, if not millions, of dollars are frequently wasted, but it is what it is.

By all means though, keep the faith if you like.
